I wouldn't so much call it a debate....Ricky was the only one who supported his own position with actually undeniable facts... Colbert just pushed his feelings then when Ricky backed him into a corner with facts he tried (and failed) to be funny

  • @khymaaren

Colbert is a comedian, himself, but his tone aside, he did seem to be trying very hard to throw a wrench into Ricky's thinking and I think he was frustrated that he wasn't successful. I was surprised to learn that he is a believer, though.

The audio spoils a great reaction video. There is 20% white noise (listen to it) there is your own audio (about 50%) and then there is the actual entertainment we are supposed to be watching and listening to ( about 30%). Have a rethink guys.

Except for Qur'an, Qur'an already has 200 milion people that know it in totality so if every Qur'an, Bible or any other book would be destroyed in 100 or 1000 years only Qur'an would be same as today because people keep memorizing it in full, in many cases there are traditions of learning it from father to son and so on and on.

That's called oral tradition, many ancient society's practiced oral history and over time if it's not written then the stories will change and evolve each time it's told to the next generation until it's written down.

And then people remember it wrong, pass on the wrong information but claim it is true.
Another problem is language evolving over time, so the passed on information will change due to it.

Colbert has lost all my respect since he too over this show. He sucks now. Colbert Report was so funny, but since then he hasn't done anything I've enjoyed. He only makes me cringe, and I guess it was the writers on Colbert Report who was funny, not him. He was probably just reading other peoples words. So disappointing.

Science would come back the same way but have different naming conventions relative to the language they were rediscovered in.
A bit like ancient religion where they called things god like powers because some ruler had 'magic' when he really didn't. Some of it was just little discoveries that got lost.

Something had to start everything though.
If we ask 'how did this universe come to be' we get the idea that we're made by another universe, or split off from something else, but then that asks, where did THAT originate from? It's impossible for something to exist forever before itself, everything has an origin, what is the origin of the origins?
    The first of all?
In that regard, that SOMETHING that was the first to exist, is God. We can't argue time travel either, you can't go back in time if you didn't originate to begin with.
But the idea of a man in the sky who judges your actions in life, is patently absurd and borders on insanity. Sky daddy isn't real. Unless we're a product of alien interference I suppose, then sky daddy is real in a different context.
My God simply is Origin. The First of All. It's not sentient. It's not aware. I don't even know or could guess what it is. Maybe it was a quantum particle, maybe it was an electron. I don't know. But that is Origin. I don't believe in afterlife or anything else.
I do to some degree believe in omnipotence and omniscience, because I have devised a way to make this possible for a single entity, albeit it would take a timespan that I couldn't even write down and we would be nearing the end of the universal cycle by the time we managed it, give or take a few trillion years. If we could come up with wormhole technology or something similar, it would lessen the timespan required for my plan to initiate godhood but still, it's essentially impossible for the created God at the end of it to survive the universal recycling process (all matter and energy condenses into a single point before exploding with renewed vigour and the new cycle begins) and come out the other side without being destroyed by the explosion.
