    Another fantastic video with great footage of field aspects of paleontology! I really appreciate these videos where you cover field techniques, it helps me learn a lot for my own field work.

      start researching locations! It took a lot of research, map recon, door knocking and field walking to find this spot.

    From my limited cooking knowledge, I know that aluminum is a bit reactive. Since I see it used in a lot of collecting videos, I presume it's generally not a problem, but are there situations where using foil to wrap specimens would be a bad idea?

    • @TheFossilFiend
      @TheFossilFiend  Рік тому +2

      not that I have ever seen. Most minerals wouldn't be reactive to it, even if a lot of moisture is present. In all my years of field wrapping in foil, I've never seen an issue, and some specimens have sat for several years in foil.

    If its scattered could it be multiple subjects?

      It probably is from multiple. I'm still hoping to uncover an articulated skeleton there some day

    Hey i have a question that is not very common… can you make a video where i can find fossils in a small european contry of Serbia ?

    I recently found ammonites and fossilized bones, but II dont know their origin.

    • @TheFossilFiend
      @TheFossilFiend  5 місяців тому

      @saidifj4443 the first step is to research the rock formation for the area you found your fossils. That should give you quite a bit of information on their origins.

      It's limestone rock and the bones appear to be part of an animal's ribs.

    The fossils are fascinating enough, but do you find Native American artifacts there too? Obviously they wouldn't come from the same level but they could be mixed at the bottom or maybe natives dropped stuff on top of layers with fossils. It looks like a good place to find arrow heads and stuff. I'd like to try metal detecting there for gold or newer artifacts.

      @@TheFossilFiend It would be awesome to try metal detectors there but I'm in VA and can't get out there. But you should definitely try. Get a good machine that has numbers that give you an idea of what you found and different tones for different metals. And you need a good pinpointer detector too, I like the orange Garretts. You could find all kinds of treasure there.

    Sure is near the surface of the ridge.
    Cant very very long ago that Dimetrodons ground up parts were buried.
    295-272 million years ago seems a bit excessive
