Thank you! This is so true, I was always taught that when a child is 'misbehaving ,' it is usually because a need is unmet but they don't know how to vocalise what's wrong.
One big area i disagree with is the "time-in" mentality when seeing maladaptive behavior. With years of ABA experience it is often harmful to reinforce maladaptive behaviors with more attention. It shows the child that any time they act out, they get more attention. I have seen much more success ignoring the tantrums and addressing the needs when the child calms down. This reinforces positive healthy interactions to have their needs met.
Yes, we are talking about children who can express themselves. Not children who cannot yet talk. That said children who are 1.5 years old can express when they are hungry, tired or just need a cuddle.
This is wonderful thank you . There is sometime they don’t tell you did their children have a special needs .
Yes, sometime parents do not disclose everything they should.
