This is me in my first semester of pure and applied math. I want to become a math professor and love math, yet in my first semester of college I just wasn't well prepared. I expected it to be as easy as highschool, but I was very wrong. Moreover, I have the drive to succeed. I'm taking this first semester as a lesson learned. I can't study for exams a few days prior like I used to before. I just wish I knew that before I messed up, but honestly, this might be exactly what I need in order to be in the right track. I've never experienced the feeling of failing a class or going into an exam feeling like I'm not ready at all. I feel like crying, but I refuse to do because inside me I know I am better than what the letter grade will say of my transcript.

I wish I can say that. The feeling of failing is killing me so bad. I’m failing my semester and that means I need to re-take some exams, and revise some modules from zero.
I used to be one of the tops and now I’m the only one failing, I know I didn’t work hard but I also don’t deserve this.
I was always intelligent but I’m not anymore, I’m comparing my self a lot to other people, I’m always negative, I can’t focus, I can’t think straight, I’m totally lost.
Getting up is hard but I will prove my self the next semester, even if I hardened everything but as long as I’m alive I will try and try and try and work hard.
Ps: I think I’ll start crying lol

I failed at my first year too. I was depressed, missed my boyfriend, ended up breaking up with him. Around that time I was studying English Culture and Literature. I hated it. I hated the professors they were mean like all the time for no reason. Never helpful, just condescending. All my classes were in English, my English was good but not that advanced. This was a top university which I was studying with a full scholarship and low attendance was a deduction cause for your grades. I developed a huge social anxiety. For every class there was a presentation that you had to do. It was impossible for me to pass. Didn't leave my room for days, didn't shower for longer that I usually do. I pulled myself together after some point. I changed my major to American Culture and Literature, because if I didn't I thought I would lose my scholarship and no way my parents could afford the school without it. There wasn't really a soft cushion I could lend. My parents are pretty much feed, clothe and send them their way kind of people and very toxic. I started therapy. Thank God it was provided by school. I did better, had some better and some very nice professors. Graduated. You know what, I didn't grow a lot on this side, that I still partly hate my parents and I hate that school and some professors because they miss the point consistently. I have lots of ailments, chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, and now probably an auto immune disorder and I still have to pick up some pace through this(unemployment) and help myself. I hate it but I am going to try my best. (I have a great fear of science classes always did poorly on math and sciences. But ironically, the only A I got in university was a course called Physics for Poets. The teacher was the coolest guy. He had a speech impairment, very empathetic and nice.)

Your first semester wasn't dumb. It is two or three hard classes per semester. I did the mistake of being a full-time student with the wrong classes and I learn the lessons of why time manage and adapt to college back when I was young. Some professors or personal life can alter your grades; however, I likes the helpful professor. Some professors can be condescending or rude.

I’ve failed classes and haven’t made higher than a C in any of my core classes (besides Ochem) but did well in my elective classes🙄. Congratulations on becoming a doctor. Lots of successful people have experienced failing certain classes, grades, assignments, etc. Lots of really good drivers failed the driver's test the first time they took their driver's test. Lots of really good CPAs failed the CPA exam the first time they took the CPA exam. Lots of really good lawyers failed the bar exam the first time they took the bar exam. Lots of very intelligent people have experienced failing classes in college. I know a very intelligent person that failed a lot of classes in college and dropped out of college. When he went back to college, he ended up getting A's and B's and getting a degree.
Some people are very knowledgeable about certain subjects but aren't good at teaching those subjects to people in ways they can understand. Not everyone is cut out for teaching. Having the right teacher can definitely affect how well you do in a class.

I had the same experience when I was a high-school senior getting ready to go te college. I was oriented in the medicine field but I had problems with my biology and chemistry teacher that did not supported me. In the same way they told me that I was not good in science and I will never be a good doctor. Their words demotivated me and I didn't go to medicine. As a result I started a software engineering degree. I also had a lot of struggles with math in high school, luckily the math professor there was very supportive and made me boost my confidence. Later on, I got only good grades in her subject. Thanks to her now I'm concerned that I can do good in sciences and also repent that I left medicine for others opinions.💕

I’m doing a pre-med degree and I’ve been so close to failing each semester and I questioned at one point if I should change degrees altogether. It’s because my drive to become a doctor isn’t as strong as in high school. I underestimated uni life and I have imposter syndromes. My mindset is that if I can’t even do well at this, how will I become a doctor? I’m lost ngl, but this video reminded me that failing once doesn’t deter you from reaching your goal. I wanna do my best even though this degree may not be for me… I hope to figure things out soon.

I have bipolar and schizoaffective disorder, last semester and this summer, I found it really difficult to focus. I would have the extreme highs and stay up all night studying, just to crash and burn after a few weeks, and have to bounce back. This went on at least every few weeks, which really hurt my overall score and gpa. I just don’t know how to stop the cycle when it all feels completely out of my control. Sometimes I wish I was a different person 😢I’m retaking the courses I failed, but I don’t qualify for FSA, so I’ve been paying OOP, which has been at least $1300. I just don’t think I can financially support another failure, but I outta try I guess.

This is how i felt , and what I realized in life is very comparable to how you kinda are in school. Listen i play a lot of video games and i grind for my ranks competitively... But over time I get to a peak where i am not improving and i simply give up on the game. I treated the same with education , i was in 3rd year engineering and i literally could not pass dynamics which was the hardest most difficult course you had to get thru before taking all your major upper division courses. I grinded tht course and i tried getting tutor but somehow it just wasn't clicking. So many things to remember... I looked at all the practice problems.. when mid terms came along the professor threw a literal wrench into these exams... The 4 out of 5 questions on the exam was never covered and nowhere close to how it should look on the dynamics practice problems. And yes the questions were all dynamics related , he actually made it where you had to understood the concepts of how to get to the solution using dynamics course he taught and not what the book teaches... So after studying 30 different types of problems... Hours of pure grind..allowed to use one sheet for notes... I came nowhere to passing. It was the time i realized tht this engineering wasnt for me. I got burnt out and dropped out of college. I attended csuf and my professor was david naish, im not gonna lie hes a great professor.. just I wish i tried harder. Maybe i didnt attend enough of his classes , i dont remember. If i can do it all over again I would. :(

Same. Totally bombed the entire 2nd year and dropped my GPA to 1.7... Joined the Navy to get education benefits and got a BS with TA while active duty. Finally, I'm getting to the point where I'm going to go back to school, and that old failure is preventing me from transferring to the school I wanted to attend to finish an engineering degree. I have a degree and a career already, so going to school is only for myself. But I also have dependents now, so giving up a 6-figure salary to go back to school when I am not guaranteed to even be allowed to transfer and work towards my Masters is a hard choice to make. It just really irks me that I failed something that I was capable of completing successfully. It's been 8 years since I left school, and I can't let it go.

I think if a school refuses to give you credit after failing GET AN ATTORNEY! Because you worked hard in a class/test. Do thd same thing if you get kicked out of college for failing too many courses! Everyone has a right to an education! Regardless of level!

While I fully support the message, the title is misleading. A degree in naturopathic medicine doesn’t allow you to call yourself a “physician” in a medical setting; it is in fact illegal.
While the message is failure is not the end of the road, this is incredibly misleading because there are many students your have rough starts and want to be actual physicians later in life. If you fail a year of college, as I did, it takes a lot of time and hard work to then get admitted to a U.S. MD/DO school and to become a physician. If you want to be a physician after a failure there are no short cuts. You will have to put in the work.
