    Woow love it. 🎉. I have visited one of EV maker in China last month. It was a mind blowing experience for while life. The factory and complex was super smart and clean 😮😮😮😮. Now I really believe how they made a best cars in the world ❤

      Chinese phone maker Xiaomi recently launched their first electric car (EV). Within the first 24 hours upon its debut, Xiaomi's EV model was booked by over 88,000 customers. These cars cost $4000 less compared to Tesla, and that makes them more attractive to buyers. Xiaomi's market value shot by 16% today and surpassed the total valuation of companies including General Motors and Ford. However, Xiaomi is reportedly set to bear losses with every sale.     If Xiaomi can charge a phones 5 000 mAh battery from 0-100% in 19 min I'm not surprised over what they can do with an EV. Xiaomi 13T is the phone in question and I'm using it now.

    I've had Xiaomi phones, smart watches and toothbrushes (!) for years and they've been amazing value and top quality. No reason to think the car would be anything but technically brilliant.

      yeh i have lots of their stuff. from phones to household accessories. I can totally see a landscape where they dominate in asia. BYD in europe and USA.

      I probably would not buy a watch from them. But I have a Xiaomi vacuum clear and it is cheap and very powerful. The only down side is that because of the power draw, the battery drains pretty fast. XD

The Chairman of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, concurrently owns Shunwei Capital.,invested in a wide range of companies across almost every sector, including BYD, Xiaopeng Motors, NIO, and others. This grants Xiaomi significant influence in the supply chain.The main leaders of Xiaomi's automotive project come from various major automotive companies. For instance, Yu Liguo, the former President of Beiqi Arcfox(BAIC Motor's new energy vehicle brand); Hu Zhengnan, the former Vice President of Geely Group and the Director of Geely Research Institute; Huang Zhenyu, the former Vice President of Magna China.

    Several tech and tesla youtubers have already said befote this news came out that its a lot easier for tech company to become ev company than legacy auto to turn into tech company that makes EVs.

      Its the same reason as to why Apple created the first modern smartphone. The product was obvious but only Apple could invest a billion+ in new hardware and software instead of the financially low risk of gradually upgrading your legacy products which all the other - now extinct - cell phone companies did.

    In China, the current regulations limit autonomous driving to Level 2, which requires drivers to maintain their hands on the steering wheel. However, in 2024, a trial of Level 4 autonomous driving (fully autonomous) is planned in select cities. Drivers wishing to participate in this trial will need to pass a specific test and obtain an additional license. Consequently, the validity of Xiaomi's claims about autonomous driving in 2024 remains uncertain. Meanwhile, other car manufacturers have already developed Level 4 technology and are awaiting updates in policy to proceed.

      @@bobmorane4926 It's hardware should be capable for L4, software is currently L3-L4, but only L2 is allowed now (hands on wheel). Parking area is not public road so you might see some video showing Huawei's car run driverless finding a car park slot, but on city road it's still L2. L3 (hands off) will be tested early this year, and time of L4 (no driver) is not clear

      Level 4 driving is pretty much meaningless. Driverless but only under certain "conditions" like a parking lot or highway (but not necessarily city streets) or also city streets but only certain cities.
      (Remember when Mercedes Benz claimed they had L3 driving. It was limited to 40mph on the highway. An arbitrary and useless limitation)
      The "Levels" appear to be arbitrary with a massive jump from L2 to L5 unless you are building a car to work anywhere or at least every highway and city.
      Basically. L3-L4 are "gimmic" driving with varying major limitations. (Like limiting it to a few cities.)
      To suggest an L4 is better than an L2 is meaningless.
      Should have a standard and build on it. Not change the conditions arbitrarily.

      @@avgjoe5969 its not a gimmick if the city is as large as shanghai with over 30 million population. it itself is a large market and I for one is waiting for an L3 car to be able to be driven around shanghai autonomously. I hate driving and I will but any car with the best autonomous driving. I barely drive outside the city and multi-city driving is not that meaningful for me.

    Xiaomi (literal translation: Millet) is an incredibly strong company. They have killer cellphones, which is a computer, a battery, a radio, a screen, and cameras. Add a motor to a cellphone and you have car... Xiaomi has tons of money, great engineers, and knows how to sell effectively.
    Expect them to be a formidable force. I am scared; the bloated D3 are so stuffed with do nothing paper shufflers; they can't possibly match this.

      You are right about the literal translation 小米 小 means small and 米 means rice when the two characters combined they mean millet.

      800Km is CLTC range - this will be closer to 620km WLTP and 580km EPA. (for comparison a LR model Y has a CLTC range of 688km, WLTP of 533km and EPA of 498km)
      That would give it a WLTP consumption of 163Wh/km or 262Wh/mile - that's good but not spectacular (the WLTP consumption for a Model Y Performance is 151Wh/km or 244Wh/mile).
      Under the CLTC method a Model S long Range (651km EPA) has a range of almost 900km.

      Agreed. I would say that there is around a 19% difference when you take the CLTC numbers and want to end up with WLTP.
      With new EPA test cycle procedures coming in to effect this year the difference between WLTP and EPA is mostly around 8% (Model Y SR Europe has 283miles of WLTP range, the US version has 260miles EPA. The Model Y LR Europe has 332miles of WLTP range, the US version 310 miles EPA).
      So the 800km CLTC range of the Xiaomi SU7 is around 648km WLTP.
      648km WLTP would be 596km EPA (370 miles).
      Efficiency:
      648km WLTP with a 101kWh net capacity battery would translate to an energy consumption of
      15.6kWh/100km ; 156Wh/km WLTP
      or
      3.7mi/kWh EPA ; 273Wh/mi EPA
      Those are good but by no means outstanding numbers.

    Who else remembers that Sony was going to co-develop an EV with Honda? They announced it and even built a prototype, but we have to wait till 2026 to get it. Seems EV outside of China need more time to built.

    Being an owner of a Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone I agree with comments from others on the quality of their products. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are indeed a top 3 EV manufacturer in 15 years from now. I'd be seriously looking at an SU7 if they were available in Australia, but I don't think we'll see them until 2025 at the earliest. Will have to make do with a Seal for now :)

    Very ambitious of Xiaomi but I'll wait for the reviews. I am still trying to digest the idea that companies that makes consumer electronics like smartphones, computers, telecommunications equipment (Huawei) coming into the EV space. I remembered i read somewhere that Terry Gou, the boss of Foxconn said he wants his factories to be setup to make cars as well. I think that's going to be the trend going forward but i dunno how successful they will be.

      The video says "they make more electric scooters than anyone else in the world". That's still a big jump, but Suzuki started in looms, and BMW in aircraft engines, farm equipment, and household products, then a motorcycle. It's conventional automakers that seem to be struggling with how to think in a new realm. It might prove an advantage to be coming from outside the auto industry, given which companies are succeeding in EVs and which aren't.

    @0:17. I guess you haven't yet watched videos of the latest Huawei powered EVs (such as AITO, LUXEED, and AVATR 12).
    They are clearly ahead of Tesla in the area of autonomous driving. Xiaomi is only catching up to them.

    @6:47. The Huawei powered cars already can do exactly that.
    That is, the car goes find parking itself, parks the car. And then when you finish your shopping, you click a button on the Huawei app on your phone, and the car will come and find you.

    The only difference here is the Huawei cars are ALREADY in the market. People have already been driving them.
    Xiaomi is a late newcomer onto the scene offering the same functions.

    The Mercedes Vision EQXX is the first EV that can go more than 700 miles (1000km) on a charge, that was two years ago. The British startup company that developed the motor and associated energy control, was supported by Mercedes. Mercedes has since bought the company, similar to Porsche burying Remac. This technology is being brought to the next generation of BEV.

    $42K for the entry level version? Insane if that battery has a range over 300 miles. I bet Xiaomi will try to make money on a subscription service for the self drive and other added tech functions

      @jameshack485 $42K may be the projected price in China, with the massive subsidies provided to indigenous manufacturers. Expect this car to be 60% more expensive outside China, before taxes (which can add a lot more to the price).

      they have not revealed the price yet (after all the car is not ready for order until the middle of 2024). I am pretty certain the starting price would be much less at around 30k otherwise they can hardly compete with other intenders like zeekr 007 or geely e8. 40k it's likely what the top model would cost.

      @@danoprea3066 Correct that's the Chinese local price - for comparison an ID.7 is $33k in China, but will sell for 56k pounds in the UK, it will be close to $85k AUD and $55k USD

    Will believe it when a few consumers buy them and confirm that the model does what is claimed when they say so. Before then, I’m sceptical.

    Their comprehensive sensor suite simplifies the convergence of the high res occupancy network. In contrast to FSD V12 which lacks the ability to adequately adapt to unknown situations given that neural networks are weak at reasoning by analogy, Xiaomi's approach enables lesser focus on perception and more on planning. Xiaomi has independently developed the first production-ready end-to-end sensing and decision-making AI model (essentially a more capable version of V12). One advantage of LiDAR in this case is that LiDAR enables reduced computational load which equals improved performance over FSDb. Ultimately, unless Tesla matches Xiaomi's approach, which I believe to be inevitable, they may never be as advanced as Xiaomi ADAS particularly in safety, performance where visibility is limited, and unknown situations. Simply put, generalization cannot match instance-based generalization approaches in terms of generalization accuracy.

      You should add that the cameras on Tesla cannot even cover 360 degree and there will always be some blind spots. And it is nice to see someone like you speak out the truth. The internet is packed with paid videos and information praising the autopilot system of Tesla while in reality they are actually the one that fall behind other competitors. It is so bad that they took away LiDAR which does not cost that much. I will never buy any product of this type of company.

    With the US EPA changing to even more conservative calculation of EPA range for EVs, the gap with Chinese EPA and US EPA is growing. It would be nice to know the US EPA of the 800km range. Re the ADAS, I wonder on what basis you determined that the ADAS is already the world’s best.

      If you take the Tesla Model Y Long Range km ranges as a benchmark (same car with CLTC, WLTP and EPA ranges) these work out to be 688 (CLTC), 533 (WLTP), 498 (EPA) - Converting the 800km CLTC would give 620km WLTP and 580Km EPA (360 miles EPA) which is lower than a model S long range with 405 miles EPA (or 899km CLTC the other way around).

      With new EPA test cycle procedures coming in to effect this year the difference between WLTP and EPA is mostly around 8% (Model Y SR Europe has 283miles of WLTP range, the US version has 260miles EPA. The Model Y LR Europe has 332miles of WLTP range, the US version 310 miles EPA).
      So the 800km CLTC range of the Xiaomi SU7 is around 648km WLTP.
      648km WLTP would be 596km EPA (370 miles).
      Efficiency:
      648km WLTP with a 101kWh net capacity battery would translate to an energy consumption of

      Xiaomi has not made a version with a single motor and a large battery to achieve the highest range. However, compared with other dual-motor cars of the same price, the Su7 does have the highest power and the longest range. I don’t know that the biggest contribution is the body design or motor efficiency or something esle, but this is indeed an advantage.@@bullshitbingo2259

    Again the self driving that this car uses depends on detailed 3D mapping of the cities. Like GM's Cruise, it cannot go anywhere that it doesn't have a precise map for and if anything changes that is not in that map it maybe cannot handle it.
    This tech is a great convenience feature but will meet a dead end as to its top end capabilities before it gets to the level of a human. Humans don't depend on maps to handle unique driving situations.
    If you are shooting for level 4 or level 5 autonomy then your car has to be able to think on its own and handle new situations on its own just like a human can, else you might as well drive yourself.

      Absolutely.This may be a better implementation of a geofenced system than Cruise or Waymo but ultimately Tesla will have the better system by miles.Looks like we are getting to the point where autonomy(of one sort or another) is the competitive selling point of a modern car.At least in China. This was what Elon Musk predicted: that customers would demand a car with autonomy and those that didn't have it would be largely worthless.

    Also, these initial pricing estimates are ALWAYS 30-50% low. 42k is really 60k. Why do we need a car from the Jetsons? Give me 0-60 in 7 seconds and 400 mile range(really) for 25k. Keep all the crazy features. And lastly, tires that go 70k miles.

      I speculate $35000 for the entry model in China and $45000 for the high-end version in China.
      Around the same price as a Model 3 in China, which costs $35000 for the Standard Range and $40000 for the Long Range model. But the Long Range Model 3 is not a direct competitor in terms of performance. And the SU7 is generally a bigger car. So the higher price for the high-end version is justified.
      Xiaomi already said multiple times that it won't be a cheap car but rather on the level of other more premium manufacturers, especially because of the build-in technology.
      And keep in mind, the Zeekr 007, one of the closest competitors to to the SU7, much closer than the Model 3, costs $30000 in its entry level version and $42000 as the strongest performance model. So the SU7 would be a bit more expensive overall but still somewhat in the same ballpark as the competition.

    I like the way it looks. Especially in that pale blue. The technology is clearly fantastic: the massive HUD is something else.
    It is still pricey... but you are getting an awful lot for your money!
    And I wonder how quickly it would charge on a less beefy charger? Although, if you can afford the price of the full spec model, I would imagine you're in a big detached house with a private driveway and a top spec home charger? And it does have a quoted good range.
    Reliability won't really be known until it's been out on the road for a few years? Let's be gracious and say it's good.
    So it's ticked three of my four boxes.
    Put the top spec package out at half the price of the bottom spec one... and I'm sold. I'll have one.
    And that's the first time I've ever said that about an electric car. It's really just down to price now. I know what I can afford, and this is outside that bracket...

    more like 400km. Energy consumption around ~13kwh/100km is extremely low. Good luck getting this results at speed more than 50km/h and in winter.

    As far as I know, the most advanced autonomous driving techniques in China come from Huawei and are far ahead of competitors. Admit it or not, Huawei is the first smartphone maker to ship its technologies to EV markets. Of course, SU7 has a better outlook, or a balanced appearance and technologies.

    The charging infrastructure and charging speed is a problem for anyone buying an ev, even with a 500 mile range (if that is true range, not just an advertising claim).
    If you need to charge in a city it can be hard to find a charging stations. If you are traveling and need to charge you will need to delay your trip, as you plug in and wait.
    The future may not be running out of juice for electronic vehicles, unless infrastructure evolves quickly and charging speeds increase dramatically.
    In addition the cost of buying a Chinese made EV needs to fall to 10 to 20% beneath the cost of a competitor like Tesla, for the export market.

    101 kwh is equivalent to 3.030 kilograms of hydrogen, 3030 divided by 800 would be 3.79 grams of hydrogen per mile. Apparently hydrogen is only about 40% efficient, imagine if they could improve it to 80%.

    100 kWh doesn't seem enough for 800 km of range. NMC batteries seem a step backwards. They are what the Nissan Leaf used and have more thermal runaway issues compared to LFP batteries that Tesla currently get from CATL, that don't use Nickel and Cobalt.
    Getting away from the need to mine cobalt and nickel is a positive thing.

    I think its great that they can produce a car in 3 years with such R&D and not coming out with bullshit like they do us with the New American Car maker startups they try to price Guage us at every turn - its fucking insane - its ludicrous that a fucking phone brand has be the one to actually come out with an affordable very desirable 4 seater looking roadster and the American startups can't do it - they just want to sale to car lots so they can make them highly desireable then put an extra $50 , 000 mark up on top what the car originally cost
