I suggest switching to LEDs. It's not hard, and they run brighter and cooler. Incandescent bulbs are hot, and they will run hotter with the tinting. I melted the taillight lens on my bike when I was a kid by doing exactly this. Looks great. Great video.

With the light tint he used on this, it probably won't be a problem, but you can compensate by installing brighter bulbs.

Another thing you can do is get some clear base coat. DBC500 in PPG and BC00 in BASF are the two I’m familiar with. Same process as what you’re doing. I usually go 10% black base coat in the clear base. 2 coats of whatever clear coat you are using after. That way if you screw anything up it’s easier to fix.
