@ Lowed Lloren - w/you on this! 😊 Lowed are you Visayan/Spanish? I wonder if we’re related? My name is Cheryl Lloren Carter. LLoren is not a common surname
Justin looks younger with his hair. I remember pandemic i used to have a long hair after almost 2 years i did my haircut and love the feeling that you feel and look younger plus you will feel head is lighter and fresher.hehe
Some sinigang recipe would use rice washing instead of water so it is flavorful. After a few days, you can take off the chili pepper from the sinigang as it can be a little bit spicy ( though it depends on how spicy you want it, the longer it is there, the more spicy it is ). For the stir fried string beans, usually they fry a little bit of meat fat first as a base or dried/shrimps and saute it with crushed garlic and chopped onions, with soy sauce or oyster sauce and not salt. Stir fry can also be done as well in Kangkong ( though this should be washed thoroughly and several times so as you can be sure it is rid of dirt and bacteria ) with fried tofu and oyster sauce. Another option in the Sinigang dipping sauce ( we call it sawsawan ) is fish sauce or soy sauce with calamansi and bird eye chilies.
U all make a very authentic tagalog sinigang 🍲🍲dishes, taugh by ur very good cook Filipina friend She so excellent TeacherJoy😊 Thanks Justine & Alina for loving sinigang and other Filipino dishes.
It is good to see the three of you enjoying cooking SINIGANG 101. Aside from salt, you can use fish sauce as it is more flavourful . Instead of mashing the tomatoes. chop it to small pieces as it is less work for you. Your vlog is gun. Thank you for sharing. Have fun and enjoy your stay in the Philippines 🇵🇭.
You'll be surprised how many kinds of sinigang there are. Miso is added for fish. Others use batwan/batuan, pakwan (watermelon), manggang hilaw (unripe mango), kamias, santol (cotton fruit), calamansi, usbong (young leaves of tamarind) etc as souring/flavoring agent. You can also use pork, chicken, beef, fish, shrimp. Way too many kinds depending where in the Philippines. The most common is what you cooked. Sinigang also uses okra but not everyone likes it. The green finger chili is essential. It adds flavor and aroma to sinigang. Aside from salt, you can use the fish sauce to the sinigang instead. It makes it tastier, with an umami flavor. Happy to know you guys enjoy this sour soup. Glad I found your channel. New subscriber here.
Love how genuine your videos are! I always wait for your new uploads and especially excited for your future travels to different tourist spots here in the Philippines! Also, if you're ever looking for a video editor, I would love to give your vlogs, such as this one, a try cause your videos look very fun and exciting! Keep it up, Justin and Alina!
I think sinigang and sisig would definitely capture every foreigner's heart and i would vote sinigang as the official national food coz it truly represents the filipino diverse culture unlike adobo which was influenced merely by the spaniards...
That Sinigang Mix is what I really bought in the Philippines going to Europe. hahahaha! For me it doesn't matter how you eat it.. as long as there is rice.. all goood!
That's normal for vegetables because they were grown with organic fertilizer and without pesticides. Before and after cutting the vegetable, just wash it in salted water. Remove the part of the vegetable with the worm. Happy eating!😊
Dont worry about the worm. Just take out the part where the worm is. Its a sign that the vegetable is fresh. They did not put pesticide which is not good for us people to consume. Just dont panic, its all organic :)
Eggplant, which is my fave vegetable, is often referred to as aubergine in other countries. While I frequent Landmark as well in buying my fresh produce, when it is wrapped in plastics, it is quite difficult to see holes in the eggplant were worms enter to eat them. Teacher Joy was right that you can still eat the other parts, just discard the ones with worms. Next menu, ask Teacher Joy about eggplant omelette or Tortang Talong which was adjudged best egg dish in the world. Or, sample it first in Locavore, Manam, or Mesa.
Im glad u guys are interested in learning how to cook filipino dish . In no time you guys will adopt the Filipino culture esp. how to cook varieties of filipino dish. Pork sisig next …. Yummm… have fun cooking, Im rooting for u guys , from San Francisco, Ca ❤
By making rice the dominant part of the plate, it makes the taste of sinigang less sour - if you prefer it that way, of course. You control the strength of the sour taste as the rice absorbs the flavor. Whatever suits you best.
I like gabi to be whole or half cut only and kangkong stem should be separated from the leaves 'coz leaves will cook fast. Love sinigang, happy eating.
All time favorite Filipino dish is Sinigang. ❤ Sometimes, we use to dip it in fish oil with calamansi juice and chili, you can try it if you want some extra taste to your sinigang. Please try Beef Calderata and Lumpiang Shanghai, too! 😊
There are many variants of sinigang and depends on what fruit you use to make the sour soup. Tamarind(sampalok), green mango(manggang hilaw), kamias, and guavas(bayabas) can be used. Also, not only beef or pork can be used but also fishes like bangus, salmon, tilapia, and even shrimps and crabs. There is one variant of sinigang I love and it is sinigang sa miso, you should try it! ❤️ you guys and congrats on your first sinigang!
If there is worm in the veggies then most probably it was grown organically, no pesticides used. Fish sauce I usually add to the soup as it's cooking. No need for salt. Add little and adjust to your preference. The finger chili or the long green pepper is added as well in the soup. Wash the veggies always. I prefer the tamarind which you need to boil with skin on, remove d skin when cooked and mash the tamarind, then add to the soup. Powdered sinigang mix is OK and convenient. I use it there's no tamarind available. The cooked finger chillies can be mashed with fish sauce as condiment as well. But the way you did it perfectly fine.
Go in BAGUIO when the BER months started. Its the best months because its really cold. But the lowest temperature usually december to february. Sometimes till march because the melting snow in japan the cold wind always travel to south which is going to the upper part of the Philippines.
Btw sinigang soup is addicting hahahha even if you're not liking your first taste to it and the next time you try it again that's where your taste buds will never forget the taste
You can adjust the sourness of sinigang don't put all the sinigang powder just half of it and try if its enough and you can add the rest if you want more sour, Fish sauce is used to season the soup you can use it instead of salt, you can add it on the soup while it is still cooking. You can make a dipping sauce with your meat by mixing fish sauce, chilli, onion and calamansi. Your missing ingredients are okra, ground pepper and pork broth cubes to make your sinigang very rich in flavour.
I love your Filipina guest, she explains good and does not shy talking in front of the camera. It's a plus that she knows Russian also =)
Me too. She is knowledgeable and kind. :)

Thank you Rugene!
Suggestions: 1. Try it using beef short ribs! Much more tastier than pork. 2. Also put the rice into the soup broth rather than the other way around.
