"Black tie/formal", is self-evident. But as far as all this "semi-formal", "dressy casual", "beach smart"; it's like 😵🤯 THANK YOU 🙏🏽! FINALLY somebody breaks it all down for me!
Black tie means a tuxedo (not a black suit) with a black bow tie. A neck tie really shouldn't be worn with a tux, but it has become more common in Hollywood for example even though it technically isn't correct.
Dress to impress... so I could wear a black leather jacket, navy blue (with black buttons), burgundy or black dress shirt or button up, dark blue jeans and black dressy Chelsea boots to my first day as an engineering student in a college...? That's in two years, so... does it sound like a pimp would wear that...?
