    Good idea to keep your favorite Halloween puzzles. If you really enjoyed them, it is very likely you will want to do them again when Halloween season rolls by again. It is not necessary to buy all new puzzles every year.

    This is a great video, and an important one as others have mentioned! :) It's so easy to get caught up in puzzle accumulation and then be completely overwhelmed by the piles and piles of puzzles (ask me how I know, lol!). I'm glad and impressed that you recognized this issue so early on! Future Jigsaw Johnie will surely appreciate the wisdom of Today Jigsaw Johnie! :)

    I’m part of a puzzle community in my region and it’s the best thing ever. When you finish a puzzle you place it on the community page and someone else is able to come pick it up. The rules are simple: all puzzles are free and you must place it back on the community page after you finished it, so puzzles will never leave the community. There’s about 300 members and I always have an endless supply of new puzzles even though I haven’t bought an actual new one in years. Some of the puzzles I put in the rotation are still making the rounds after a decade. It makes me happy to see that my puzzles are actually being used by other people instead of collecting dust in my closet. (I do still have a small collection of my favorites btw. I totally get the urge to collect as well ;) )

      300 members is crazy!!! Wow that's awesome!!! I mean that would generate 1000's of puzzles, enough for years in my case! Thanks for sharing, I'll do some research see if there is something similar around here :)

    I have the same issue. I love to puzzle, but I buy faster than I can assemble. Recently, I looked over at my puzzle stash that spilled out into my living room. I knew I had to do something. That being said, I didn’t want to part with anything. But, my library sells puzzles for extra money and even has a puzzle table for anyone that would like to assemble while visiting. So, I brought a whole bunch over and felt much better about thinning out my collection. Thanks for sharing this!

      Exactly what you said: you feel good after you do it. And the puzzles will have a second life!

    I like how you stated doing puzzles and being a collector can become two different hobbies.
    I love de-clutter and organizing videos more than haul videos. Shopping vids make me want to shop, while de-clutter vids inspire or motivate which gives a different kind of feeling good. 🙂
    I would like to say, that for sentimental puzzles, maybe find another place just for those. They can either be decoration or just momentous that could sit in a closet. Then keep your main shelf open for "to-do" puzzles.

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  24 дні тому

      Thanks for the comment! Could be an idea if I need more space but I feel like if I find another place for my sentimental puzzles, i'll just find more excuse to accumulate more puzzles. I really wanna try to stay within the fixed limit.

    Earlier this year i diacovered my library had started a puzzle swap. Ive gotten a lot of puzzles there and try to take some ive already done. I usually do a puzzle once then dont want to keep it. I take about 5-6 puzzles to leave at puzzle swap. Then i try to limit the puzzles i want in exchange to 3. That way im not bringing too many back.
    Happy Puzzling Johnie!

    It's a perennial problem for most puzzlers, too many jigsaws and not enough room. You have to ask yourself are you going to do the puzzle again, if not it goes out. Although it is nice to keep puzzles, if they never get done again they are taking up space. Much better to pass them on to the local community which is what I do with mine.

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  29 днів тому +1

      Ohh yes that's a key point. Just collection dust. I couldn't let go the Halloween ones but they might go next time, I'm sure I'll want to do new ones next year anyway so, good point, it should be the first question to ask next time.

    Well done you. I would find this impossible I love my collection and have done most of them a number of time’s. The only time I get rid of a puzzle is if there is a missing piece, these go everything else is mine and staying . Yep I have a spare room full. 😂😂😂

      Haha! I understand, totally. I'm a collector in life, been collecting stuff all my life. I could see myself filling a room with my favorite series. I decided to put a stop right at the start cause I know where this is going. I really enjoy the hobby but I decided I was not going to collect except for some very specific stuff. However I've seen amazing puzzle collections and I really think it's great. I love to see passionate people and see what they like to collect! If you have room for it, do it :)

    I recently tried to organize the puzzles I still have to do, and I just about cried. I have far more to do than I realized. I think I could fill a bookshelf with those alone. I need to whittle down the puzzles I have done. Even though I have completed them, I find many harder to part with than I thought they would be. I think your plan to keep your collection to one shelf is a good one.

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  29 днів тому +1

      Thank you. I will probably get a bigger one in the future but it's still the plan. Have a fixed limit or else it will never stop! Puzzles take place. Either you collect or you don't. I enjoy the hobby, a lot. I just feel I don't need to keep everything and I don't feel I will do them again in the future since there's always gonna be new awesome products and brands to try.

    I agree 100% that as avid puzzlers we have a tendency to collect faster than we can assemble. Recently, I gave away 66 puzzles some which I have completed (not to do again) and some which took space in my shelves for a long time. Goodwill, our local library and senior citizen center were very happy to get some of my give-aways.

      I bet they must be happy yes! 66 puzzles is a lot, makes room for the new stuff! Sometimes you just know it's collecting dust. I understand why some people like to collect them, it's nice and looks good but it's not for me this time! Feels good to give them. Thanks for the comment :)

    I have the same problem, I purged over 100 puzzles before I moved, some of them I had never done yet. We were downsizing so I had no alternative. I have been selling puzzles off as I buy, but I’m now to the point where I can’t part with the ones I have left but have no room for more if I don’t. This video makes me want to try a purge again. Wish me luck.

    I had 92 puzzles in January and I was feeling overwhelmed. So I got rid of some to the charity shop and our local library. I instantly felt better. I’m now at about 45. 8 of which are Christmas one. Mentally I feel a lot more comfortable with that many.
    I can understand when people say they are two different hobbies.

    Hi Johnie, I only buy puzzles when I’m running low. Like down to 2 in my stash. I don’t have a closet full lol. Because it takes up too much space. I have a small bookshelf and it has 6 in total. That’s plenty for me! lol. I have my Christmas puzzle already and it’s a 1,000 piece EUROGRAPHICS. That’s a great idea . I haven’t done a circle puzzle yet. That’s what I do, only buy the ones I like. I will have to try a Yazz one eventually. Nice to see you. TFS & 😊👍🎃🪦

    I resell puzzles and decide on prices considering brands and what new prices were, if I decide I won’t do the puzzle again……..this generates funds for new or used puzzles I like.
    I have donated to a local retailer once a year and if there is a puzzle issue I include a photo and note of the issue……in return for donated puzzles at the particular retailer (always every September) they give a $5 coupon towards a new puzzle (they give the puzzles to senior homes and other suggested places).

I make exceptions for black Friday & holiday sales though, and I have a few I'll nvr get rid of. It just hurts my heart to pay $6-$20 a puzzle and then donate it. BUT! Good job thinning the puzzles out. I would love to have the one with the missing piece just to rehab it. But at least you are going to let the next person know it is missing a piece, so they don't go crazy looking for it, or in my case blaming the cat for eating it! I have one cat that loves cardboard, and he watches me do the puzzles. I have got him trained to sit in a box and watch, but if I leave the puzzle unattended for any length of time, he will at some point grab a piece and chew it up or haul it off to his secret lair I have yet to discover. I am about due myself for thinning out the closet and wish I had someplace like you do to take them like a school or library. Karen Puzzles also says some cities have puzzle exchanges but haven't found one in my area. So, they will just get recycled back to some thrift stores where they came from. Looking forward to your next puzzling, thank you for the entertainment! PS one advantage you have that most of us don't, is you can go back and watch your videos of all the ones you gave away!

      I know I make puzzle videos but I don't even think I do that many puzzles in a year compared to the people I see on Facebook groups. Some guys do 2-3x more than me and even more!! If a do 3-4 puzzles per month I must be around average in my mind. Probably some do way less but I know for sure some do way more. I think a collection with 50 to 100 puzzles must be decent. I can work with that!

    I think my poverty helps me a lot. I have about 20 puzzles I still have to do, but I haven't done them because of working on the Life puzzle so much. My budget for purchase is $10 or less. I just picked up 6 off Marketplace for $25, all holiday puzzles, so I'll be working on those during November. I want to get them to the library where I donate my puzzles I don't plan to do again in plenty of time for someone else to do them for the holidays.
    I have some puzzles I've had since I was a child, and I can't seem to let go of those. If a relative of mine wanted them, I would give them up. But I've been through Swedish death cleaning and since I have no children and no one to leave my things to, I have no struggle getting rid of most of my puzzles. Better someone else enjoy them than have them just tossed in the trash after I'm gone. I'm hoping to sell or give away most of my belongings and live very minimalist.
