  • Muscle Stim for ankle muscles can be used in an outpatient setting. Aphrodite, Athletic Trainor, Center For Sports Medicine, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital demonstrates briefly for Dr Rich Blake's blog www.drblakeshealingsole.com the basic concept. In this patient, ankle peroneals and ankle dorsiflexors are due secondary to nerve damage.

Thank you so much for your comment. It depends on the amount of nerve damage. I tell my patients they have to assume there is some connection that still works. I have a stroke in 2016 and was able to strengthen my right shoulder enough to play basketball again. Is it perfect? No Will it ever be perfect? Perhaps. I keep trying to get the neuromuscular pathway work again. A lot of work. Good luck.

I have an ICD implant in my chest so I can’t use these devices, and I desperately need it for my calves and ankles :(

Have you tried muscle activation work? Rich
      Different than regular PT.

Richard Blake I’m not familiar with that concept. I can’t manually trigger or flex my calves at all.

Does the nerve conduction study show nerve damage?

Richard Blake I never did one due to my ICD. I do have peripheral neuropathy.

If you can not have an electrical option, try physical therapy. You need to find someone whom has worked with stroke patients and knows the tricks of bringing the muscle into its highest function. Rich
