  • Welcome to my 2009 Corvette C6 Z06. In this series we're going to get to know this sports car, from it's design, its 7 liter LS7 engine, it's TR6060 transmission and everything else everyone loves and hates. We're putting it up against the Camaro ZL1 1LE, the Honda S2000 and we'll compare it to other cars like the Viper, the Porsche 911 and more.

    You make some great points, the seats do not hold you in place. I did a driving school with the C5's and at the end of the day my arms were killing me as I had to hold myself in the seat. The suspension you could probably can start doing so minor changes, shocks, bushings, sway-bars and end links, before laying down money for coil overs. The "long gears" that could be a personal setup deal? The way to change that for you is to pull the transmission and have it built to your specs. The engine issues, I have heard all kinds of stories for dead reliable to issues you spoke of. The one thing you didn't mention which I thought you would is the brakes especially the rotors and how GM didn't put a L & R on the front. I have always said if one wants to track a corvette, change the seat, put in a harness system and upgrade the brakes and you can have a blast. Enjoy your cars.

    Hi Elias. Again, you bringing out these points, nice!
    On your point of reliability and endurance, you are spot on with Honda. They sure are one of the best engine builders out there.
    Peace 👍💪✌

    The c6 z06 ran a 7:22 at the ring and Its pulls over 1g on the skid pad. Stock Honda Civic Type R ran the ring in 7:44. You then mention a Prelude. Totally different cars. You see them on the little gymkhana tracks or tight , short , not many long straight , courses. Zora , from the beginning till current day labeled the vette as a sports car. I dialed in the suspension settings , not to much track yet above street and the car is fine. My zr1 , same thing , which is a whole different beast. The amount of work people needed to do to the cars you mentioned ( and the previous type r's and s2000's along with integra's ) to keep up with even a stock c5 z06 on the courses was expensive. I remember my c5 z06 at these courses and my buddy having an integra type r laughing at how i was stock and he had thousands in his car and still couldn't touch me. You are comparing tiny small cars which are slotty to a sport car beast. It was 2009 as well. Dropping the right pair of seats and some suspension components is far less costly than a zl1 which is how many years newer? Same grocery getter and " hop in " car as before and spending 10x less money as the zl1. I'm honestly tired of the camaro boys ripping off the corvette boys parts bin. That started in the mid 80's (actually further back) The z06 barely weighs 3100 lbs actually lighter than the Honda Civic Type R. Dial it in. I have a pretty sizeable collection as well . I don't have " hot hatchbacks" is what the cars you mentioned are called, they are not sports cars. I've owned many cars from ferraris to lambos and nothing , pound per pound, compares to my different z06 and zr11 corvettes. Preference , maybe, bias , maybe but i wouldn't compare my z06 to my 850 bmw. You comparing a hot hatchback to a sportcars.

      These are the comments that make me continue to film and edit videos for UA-cam, thank you for your well thought response. I have to agree, when it comes to performance per dollar, car design, acceleration, engine sound and comfort, the C6 Z06 can’t be beat. The thing I’ve come to realize is that, no matter how hard I try to kick it, I’m a FWD guy on the track. I love trail braking super late into corners, I love the “if in doubt, flat out” mentality of FWD, meaning, if things get squirrelly, just mash the gas pedal! I find oversteer a harder mistress to deal with, as it’s almost entirely how you feather the throttle through a corner. It’s not bad, just different, and for me, less exciting. I like the feeling of “beating “ on a car. When I drive the Camaro or the Z06, it feels like those cars are beating on me. I won’t give up on RWD, I’m either keeping the Camaro or the Z06, but my affinity to hot hatchbacks comes from what I said above. This is why it’s been such a hard decision to keep or sell one of the cars…

    I’m very interested in purchasing this car. But do you know anything about the valve seals or something like that? Is it true that it’s a typical problem for this motor? Thank you.

    I'm swapping my shocks to the DRM units soon, to hopefully address the "lag" in the rear end sloppiness. Also added a Corbeau seat and 5 point harness for track duty. But we had to modify the seat bracket to get the rear of the seat lower, felt like I had installed a lawn chair in my Corvette!

    I was about to fight you on the gearing comment but you gave valid points towards the end, so I understood what you meant. I on the other hand actually prefer the gearing on my C6Z rather than my S2000 because it allows me to focus on the drive more. Tracks here in my country are also quite short so whether it be the C6Z or S2000, I just find myself using the same 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. As for the driving dynamics of the car, I also used to drive the car like a muscle car due to the disconnect of the front and rear axles, but I feel that if you get more seat time in it on the track, you'll find that it can actually corner like the double wishbone Hondas that we are used to, minus the great steering feel. There's a lot of things you can do to the C6Z to make it more communicative. Other than that, I hope you give the car a chance on the track just as I have because it has the ability the hurt the feelings of cars twice and thrice its price HAHAHAHHAHAHA.

    Do you have the greasable rear knuckle on this car? It may not have been Lynne’s for some time. Maybe that will help with the rear suspension lag. I’m not sure about the z06 but my Z-51 has them and I give them a shot every couple of years. As for the skip shift, you can get the disabler to eliminate that annoying “feature”

      This is why I am drawn to Corvettes, it’s the working man’s supercar. You work hard, you save a little, and you finally buy one.

    If you had the money would you take a C6 ZR1 over the C6 Z06? I’m debating whether to get the ZR1 or Z06. Any feedback will be very much appreciated.

      I think the power level in the Z06 is already on the cusp of being too much. It’s my opinion that the Z06 is the best model of the bunch, but there is the fact that the ZR1 will hold its value a little better, as it’s considered a collectible at this point. The ZR1 just takes the Z06 goodness and adds HP to it. Since I’m a track duty, backroads kind of guy, the extra power would not really give me any extra thrill. If you’re a straight line stoplight drag person, the ZR1 will be better.

    I recently installed some Corbeau RRX seats on my C6 Z06 and they're a vast improvement over the stock and really hold you in. Makes a big difference driving around twisty roads. Let me know if you need any input on those!

    Too many people drink the ls7 fix cool aid. Many think you just replace the heads, w/ aftermarket install stainless valves, or MS90 guides etc. Doing those things just resets the clock.
    The key is to minimize or eliminate valve side loading while maintaining a light weight and stable valvetrain. Heat dissipation is also of concern at the valves. GM didn't use sodium filled exhaust valves for no reason.

  • @speedfiend925
    @speedfiend925 3 місяці тому

    Question: I am sure this has been asked before but here is my question....Did you have the valve issue addressed shortly after purchasing? I know there is a lot of concern about this issue and it can basically grenade the engine.

      they are SUPER comfortable, and perfect for everything except for at the limit cornering. At the limit cornering sends you sliding on the seat, hanging on to the steering wheel for dear life.

  • @danziger69

    Seats are definitely junk for any kind of g-forces. Can't agree with the handling comments at all. Maybe you need some suspension adjustment. The gearing is good for the engine...if you want more shifting...you need a weaker car. That's why a S2000 or Miata is fun, but slow.

    • @FlyinGato
      @FlyinGato  Місяць тому

      After putting new tires, I can say the handling is much improved. I have DRM shocks being ready to get installed, because I still feel that disconnected feeling between the front and rear
