- Tesla Troopers hold some interesting abilities but unfortunately they are quite under-powered to be used in a competitive game. Their true power rises when they start gaining promotions but getting them there can be quite hard. In this video you can find all the interesting abilities they have.
Thanks to TAK02 we were able to see another interesting ability WestWood removed in the final release. The Tesla Troopers as shown in #3 had the ability to "assault" occupied buildings and empty them.

Tesla Troopers are on a complete different level when promoted!
I just realised I never saw fully promoted Tesla troopers in action 🙃
First thing I think about the word speciality is when Obi wan said "Chancellor Palpatine, Sith lord are our speciality"
Agree. Although elite tanks can kill them easily I guess

I just said "Huh, I guess this is the precursor to that in the more recent games." But I guess it technically was if it was planned but not implemented.
@@Water_Worker it works albeit crudely. It plays a anim you set up in the code as Assaulter then AssaultAnim on their weapon that plays on all firing locations on garrisoned buildings and they have to approach them like C4 on Tanya/Navy SEAL.
Well at least now I don't feel like a massive spanner for not knowing this despite my playing all the tournaments for the damn game

@@CnCDune even if they does, I think not many people would use it. Air force or siege unit are less painful.
Knowing what they are capable off is quite shocking.
Man, Tesla Troopers are pretty awesome. If you manage to get your hands on some Battle Tortoises, fill them up and send them into your enemy's base... well, there won't be a lot that can effectively deal with them.

@@mwperk02 Pretty sure that's the case for most people nowadays, who tinker with mods anyway. It's hard to get around Mental Omega if you dip into YR's mods rather than just play vanilla.
what about 2-3 linked prism towers? had lost some battle fortreses due to them so i take hem or power with something else before sending in the cleaners aka battle fortress team. i mostly play normal yr revenge nowdays
@@ciberzombiegaming8207 Prism Towers are good against single targets but suffer against rushes. Sure a few of them linked can one-shot most vehicles, but when linked they can fire only one at a time. Tesla Coils might do less damage, but they are much better at dealing with rushes and attacks from multiple angles.
@@Beriorn less damage you say? What about tesla tower with 5+ troopers near it? But yeah, I don't see much trooper boosted towers in skirmish, only some (maybe accidentally) linked prisms. Sometimes I try to do "no losses" match, but linked prisms sometimes breaks that.
I still couldn't believe what makes Tesla Trooper bad is just range alone. Maybe some more armor modifier and health to help them approach the enemies could help like Mental Omega balances it? But even then with the buffs from mods they are relatively rarely used outside of buffing Tesla Towers.
But he's still useful in specific campaign missions which is doesn't provide establish a base option
They do have use in the campaigns and some early game since they can go tow to toe with grizzly tanks. But, once the tech labs are built they good for anything other than buffing the tesla coils,.
Mental Omega features Shock Troopers that makes them obsolete. I modified both to be able to garrison bunkers, making them more useful. Shock Troopers in bunkers are extremely deadly, especially once elite, which happens soon enough.
They sure are really hard to promote, mostly due to their short range and medium cost.
Also, I think they should have kept that ability to balance them out.

I love tesla troopers. They are one of my favorite units in the game.
I did not know that they could tank a prism tower hit and power up unpowered tesla coils. I knew they could charge it but not that.

The fact that they CAN CLEAR garrisoned structures blows my mind! This can easily be overlooked!
One of my fav infantry units but too bad the short range holds them back too much. Mass infantry assault vs AI by mixing them with conscripts as meat shields might help.
I might be getting ahead of myself here, but could the Tesla Trooper very well be the BEST unit in the entire Red Alert series???
@@costco_pizza You can argue which unit is the best but the Tesla trooper is definitely not a contender. Not considering the whole series, just RA2 alone many units like the IFV and GI are more versatile than the trooper.
Series as a whole the "best unit" would probably come from RA3 since there are a lot more crazy units and each having a secondary ability. A few that come to mind as contenders are Twinblades, Hammer Tanks, Stingrays.

Also, it's risky to make them charge the Coils if you're against A.I Yuri as the Genetic Mutator may target them

the tesla and battle fortress i love that combination use it all the time ofcourse capturing a soviet mcv first before option comes into play
What i love from Tesla Troopers is that they cant be crushed by tanks or other vehicles since the first Red Alert.

Played this game at the highest level competitively as Cuba for the best part of a decade and genuinely never knew they could clear garrisoned buildings by entering them

They can't in the unmodded version. But the ability is supported in the code - look for Assaulter

This actually isn't possible in the vanilla game, according to modenc the tesla trooper and SEAL both originally were able to do this but it was removed at some point. To reenable simply go to [SHK] in rules/rulesmd.ini and set Assaulter=yes for the tesla trooper and do the same in [GHOST] for the SEAL.

Also, all Infantry survive Chronoshift when inside a Vehicle. Only teleporting Infantry can be chronoshifted directly.
@@CnCDune On Red Alert 2 no infantry (except chrono legionaire)survived chronoshifting in a vehicle when i did it. But i guess that was a fix on Yuri's Revenge. A for the garrison part i was not aware of that but i guess they wanted to keep things balanced.
@@stevengreen9536 Even back in RA2 Infantry would survive a trip with the Chronoshift when in a Vehicle.
However, that didn't happen in RA1.

Still weak units. For $500 they should have at least a bit more range
it's actually balanced, if you put it inside an IFV or battle tortoise the range becomes 2x more but you have to put effort on capture allied war factory.
I remember the very first time I used Tesla shocktroopers. My buddy didn't know what they did either. He kept trying to run over them with his tanks and was getting frustrated with losing his tanks to them. I had read the unit description and knew what they were for and that they repelled armor. Ah good times.

Still doesn't look cost effective on Tesla troopers since losing even 2 is the same price as 10 conscripts in the garrison or 4 for gi or initiates.

I have to ask, the Tesila trooper is a concept alone is hilarious and awesome, between red alert 2 and 3, which is your prefered.
I personally like 2's version as it looks simple yet other worldly, plus a giant electrical gauntlet.
Edit: I should said that I never liked the suit in 3, but it grown on me.
Neither of them are as good as Red Alert's Tesla Trooper.

Cant they also power your base? I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty certain that in the instance your power is out, you could have one charge a local Tesla reactor to effectively restore power.
