    5:30 Jaby is thinking of Galactic Habitable Zones which is the portions of galaxies where life is most likely to be able to safely evolve. It's not due to a temperature difference, though, like the habitable zone around a star, the ambient temperature of space is basically the same in the center of a galaxy as farther out, but instead because of other factors.
    For example, close to the center of the galaxy you have many more stars and therefore a much greater chance of being relatively close to a star that goes supernova, and supernovas are so powerful they can devastate the atmospheres of planets in other nearby star systems.
    Meanwhile, life requires heavier elements to work and to be able to form rocky planets. If you're very far away from the center of a galaxy, you'll have less of those heavy elements available, which can reduce the chance of having a habitable planet in the first place. But at the same time, too many heavy material could also be detrimental to forming habitable worlds since it can potentially lead to worlds that tend to be big gas giants like Jupiter.
    So in summary galaxies do probably have rough habitable zones which are more conducive to life, but it's the availability of material and proximity to potential disasters like supernovas that are the important factors, not the temperature.

      It's also because GRBs are more common in the center of the galaxy. There's more radiation the closer you get to the center.

    The goldilocks zone isn't likely to be be debunked because it doesn't refer to the only places life could exist but instead to the conditions necessary for human (or earth life) to exist. They're more likely to add to it than to debunk it, assuming life can indeed exist or even thrive on non-earth-like worlds 😇

      This is the issue with Goldilocks zone theory. It looks at existence of life from earths prospective which is not the right way to judge it.

      You should know many animals died out from even changes from temperature so its definitely important on far a planet is to the sun. Being too close can kill and too far can also kill but doesn't mean the planet has tp be exactly the same place

      @@RockyBell Yeah we should look at it from the perspective of the examples of life we found on other planet, genius. All "goldilock" is, is possibility of temperature ranges allowing for liquid water. You have zero clue what you're even taking issue with. Prime example of Dunning - Kruger effect.

      Isn't it just the distance where liquid water can exist at the surface? Could be wrong, but I thought that was what the Goldilocks Zone meant.

    Astrophysics here, the Goldilocks zone most likely won’t be debunked because it simply refers to the distance from a star that liquid water can remain on its surface, our sun has 3 planets in its Goldilocks zone, but Venus and mars are uninhabitable for separate reasons

  • @AceManning18
    @AceManning18 Місяць тому +3

    The goldilocks zone for galaxies was more referring to radiation that harms dna, not so much the hot/cold aspect. If you're close enough to a star, it will be warm. It doesn't matter how far out you are in the galaxy.

    well this is late but this is a great way to see it ( IMHO ) :
    About the Galactic Habitable Zone :
    Do you go INTO the wave generator in a wavepool ?
    No, you dont, because its chaotic and you'll surely get crushed, even if there is water there as well and waves too !
    You stay a the real nice spot where the waves have a comparable size and are relatively regular - or predictible -
    This is the same reason why a Galactic Habitable Zone exists :
    In or near the center of a galaxy is very chaotic and unstable for a living world - we are too fragile creatures (and by we I mean all living things) to exist in such a place.
    Hence, we have to stay far from the wave generator... but not too far either where there is nothing and noone close because there is just no fun there.
    Lol I love how Ambre at 7:00 is just... dazed by dudes comment.. She doesnt say anything but her eyes show her incomprehension

    Regarding that conception part, the statistics say only 15% of all women experience the whole 28 days menstrual cycle, so the week it projects is unlikely to be close to the actual day, since the website says the assumption is based on average 28 days cycle. 😢

    I can’t help but question what is really happening with a photon inside the sun when the wave/particle probability of quantum mechanics is applied. I suppose as long as at least one person on earth is aware that the sun is shining the collective photons already on their journey here are in a particle state, but would that still apply on the inside where no one is currently capable of observing?

    • @brendanmetivier511
      @brendanmetivier511 2 місяці тому +1

      This is a common misunderstanding of the double slit experiment. Photons are too small to be "seen" or "observed," so when we're "observing" a photon, we actually mean we hit that photon with a laser.
      There's nothing metaphysical or magical about a person looking at the sun that would change how the photons behave. On the quantum scale, "observing" is not a passive action. It requires physical interaction.
