    The fact that any scientist ever believed that fat cells didn't die is just wild to me. It's in the same category as the idea that brain cells, once dead, are completely irreplaceable.
    Like, nobody stopped to think for even a few minutes that this would mean those cells have an impossibly long lifespan? Hell, I remember my mom telling me about the whole brain cell thing when I was like 12 and thinking "No, there's no way that's right. No way those cells just live for like 80 years."

    • @stoferb876
      @stoferb876 Рік тому +5

      It's not that crazy. There are certain types of cells, specifically neurons and heart-muscle-cells, that overwhelmingly remains the same cells until you die. Yes neurons can regenerate, but after early childhood they still for the most part don't.

    • @Trevor21230
      @Trevor21230 Рік тому +8

      @@stoferb876 They just have a much longer lifespan than other cells. It's usually not so much "regenerating"--as in repairing damage--as it is replacing old cells at the ends of their lifecycles with new, younger cells. This happens with all of your cells, just at different rates. The reason brain cells don't really repair damage after childhood is just that they have such a long lifecycle. If you have two types of cell, one that lives for ~70 years and one that lives for ~1 month, and therefore are replaced at that same rate or close to it, which one do you think is gonna have an easier time replacing the cells lost when the tissue is injured?
      Theoretically you could potentially recover from even a debilitating brain injury if you lived long enough and were neurologically healthy. It just may take a few hundred years.

    Super informative and, at times, hilarious. Great work! 👍
    I've been struggling hard with belly fat since I hit my 30s. It's weird, every other part of my body has very little fat. Legs, arms, chest even, but just my belly fat is ruthless!
    I work out regularly at the gym, I don't eat much, and daily, I'm always running around getting exercise with my 4 year old daughter. But damn this stuff doesn't wanna go! So this was really interesting. Thanks!

      @RP-uu7oq I got I figured out, actually. So I went to the Dr and got my testosterone checked. It came back absolutely tanked at the bottom, like waaay down. So I started TRT about 7 weeks ago, and I've already begun to lose weight and feel better. I'm only 33, but I'm a recovering addict with 4 (almost 5) years clean, and apparently, long-term opiate abuse can cause some bad side effects on testosterone.
      So, on one hand, it sucks that I have low-T. On the other, at least I know the problem and have a solution.

    If fat cells die, does that mean it's possible to significantly lower the overall count? The usual dogma is that even with weightloss the fatcells just shrink but they're all waiting to swell up again if you fall off the wagon.
