As a Brit who was a kid when this aired, despite having a passing interest in spooky things at that time, I didn't bother watching the show when it aired. However, I got a bit of a weird hit of nostalgia when I saw that hotline number! Anyone else remember CBBCs Saturday morning magazine show "Live And Kicking?" Same number. You're probably singing the jingle. And feeling olllllllllllddddddd...
The show before that was "Going Live" which was the thing Sarah Greene was most famous for presenting, and it was at around the same time Ghostwatch aired.
I watched this live as a 10-year-old... I believe it was broadcast in sections throughout the night, breaking up normal broadcasting. My parents made us switch off our tv just as the credits rolled so my brother and I were f***ing terrified. Haha
The show was produced for the BBC anthology series Screen One and billed in the Radio Time's as a drama. Both of these should of tipped the audience off that the show they were about to watch was a drama. Unfortunately most of the audience tuned in late missing the Screen one banner and also no one with any sense bought the Radio times.
I saw this as a child. my grandmother changed the channel before the end. i went to bed still freaked out. her central heating made noises...... only found out it was fake due to the controversy being in the media
Here's where I can't get down with ghosts. It's 2024. Pretty much everybody has a high definition 1080p digital camera in their pocket. With the prevalence of mobile phone camera technology and the popularity of ghost hunting and UA-cam, you'd think SOMEBODY would have coughed up a verifiable ghost by now.
The big problem about the whole "How can people not believe this" thing is that... Like, so much of this is taking place in the real world. But in the real world, there is plenty of reason to not believe in ghosts. Even as someone who does believe in ghosts, I can acknowledge that. If you don't believe in ghosts, that's a very reasonable decision based on solid evidence. Mine is just some experiences and we all know how reliable eyewitnesses are. The result is that I am suddenly expected to fall into a fictional world where there's more evidenxe than there is... Or else think this woman is an idiot. It breaks the illusion. Also if someone says they think they're being haunted, you can absolutely Believe them without... You know... Believing in ghosts. Like if someone tells me they think a poltergheist is throwing stuff around their living room, even I, verified ghost believer, will not assume that there's a ghost. I assume they put things down unstably. Or they forget where stuff was. Get your memory checked and use a level on the shelves, then we can talk about ghosts. Like, just earlier today, without any discernable or plausible cause I can think of, my computer, despite being in a different room, suddenly started playing an episode of "Some More News." There are only two living creatures in this apartment capable of exerting sufficient pressure on a space bar or mouse to start a UA-cam video, and neither were in that room. The thing is, I can tell you this, and I sincerely hope that you can Believe that happened, without ASSUMING my condo is haunted. Maybe it was a weird computer glitch, maybe the cat had started another video that ended and this was an auto play, and the other video had been quieter so I hadn't noticed. There are a lot of possible explanations within the natural realm that can explain weird stuff. If someone says they're being haunted, I will 100% believe that... They are having experiences that they are attributing to ghosts. That doesn't mean I'm going to call someone an idiot for not jumping to the same conclusion. Frankly, if your response is "Yeah that's definitely ghosts" You're the one being an idiot.
I could be wrong. But this should could be made with intention for people who already believe. As such they would buy people with authority sharing they believe, even if casual watchers may become suspicious.
The same way as scam chains contain deliberate grammatical mistakes to filter people who could become suspicious. Because usually targets of the scams would not pay attention to those, while those who could report them disregard such news on principle.
Your views on belief mirror my own. Far too many people give too much credence to belief in saying that you can believe in known, well established and well supported facts.
I suspect that it's because they don't know what _knowing_ is. To them there's no particular difference between 'the existence of sharks' and 'the existence of ghosts.' The difference is more in how socially acceptable it is to profess belief in one versus the other in public rather than a difference in underlying reality.
Wooo! I really missed this episode! Thanks for bringing it back, Chuck

Yep, that number made up a lot of my childhood. 🙂

RLM was talking about this in their Late Night With the Devil review. Timing!
I thought I had a case of Deja vu when I see this upload, phew.
Ah, the good old days when deceiving the general public was a mere prank and not the entire business model of a 'news' channel.
You are an honourary Brit at this point. Just waiting for Starcops
Don't you mean Space Precinct?
@@Redrally Not with its silly aliens. I prefer Star Cops. That was the Game of Thrones of its day...
@@charly03090309 No idea what Starcops is then

I remember I was 5 when this aired and i was freaked out for months about it. My mother very pissed at my grandad for letting me watch it

5:37 Yo can we get an F in the chat for Queen Elizabeth and also for Chuck's joke

It was switched over before the stuff in the studio happened.
I think the film wall street was on the the other channel.
Man the joke opportunities around "suspension of disbelief" are legion.
Why do angry ghosts look so cute and hilarious!!? 🤣
I forgot about this Halloween Special. A fake news broadcast was ahead of it's time (and not in a good way).
what the bleep red letter media just was talking about this!!!!!!!!!!! WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?
THEY’RE THE SAME GUY!

That's because they haven't yet invented the Proton Pack or the Ectoplasmic Containment Unit yet. Heck, I'm not even sure they've got PKE meters yet.
Why is this unlisted?
