I loved it! I was only seven at the time, but I remember it well. It wasn't scary but felt really exciting and real. What honestly sold it was that it was hosted by real well-known TV presenters and journalists, and they played it totally straight.
Me and my family watched it on the night. I was and still am a fan of paranormal tv so I was so excited the week leading up to it. I knew it would be something special or it would be a big flop (sort of like the soap Eldorado which was on tv at the time). I had no idea the fallout would be so controversial.
I was 12 when it was on, everybody in school had nightmares and the playground was full of talk about it. 30 years later and it’s still hands down the scariest thing I have ever seen.
@GingerBredGirl have you seen the video on here with every sighting of Pipes? There's a few on there I'm glad I missed at the time, would have terrified me back then (even more than it already did) if not I suggest you check it out.
As someone who is old enough to have watched it as a teen let me tell you something. This was a straight up live documentary. The hosts were legitimate TV show hosts well loved by the British public. I don't know anyone who watched it LIVE that didn't believe what they were watching was actually happening - if they say they knew, they're lying. Everyone was shooketh. The BBC was overrun with telephone calls and complaints and you're right, it's never been rerun or redone again on live TV!
I second this! I watched it live and I was absolutely terrified! Pipes was the name of the ghost and that scene where he is lurking the background still haunts me 🙈
My younger brother was terrified after Ghostwatch was aired, he couldn't be alone in a room with the doors closed (not helped by SOMEONES insistence on banging on the door like "Pipes"...) Had to buy the eventual DVD release 10 years later
My husband and I are friends with the screenwriter, Stephen Volk. He is a very talented writer, not to mention a tremendous human being, and I definitely recommend watching this and checking out more of his work.
@@sg-zd8eb very weird. It's such a great movie. Maybe it's too close to home? Not to get weird but i know the entertainment industry is close with the occult.
Have you seen GHOSTWATCH?

@@SmartPrice84 that’s so cool
Yes it’s silly 😂😂😂😂
I know someone who got to interview the writer for a BBC article recently!

I saw it back in '94 (on video) and it was entirely unique for the time. Faux-authentic presentation, and a really chilling ending. Loved it.

I was 11 and I’m still traumatised.

@@scottfree7633 I seen that a while back. So well done and amazing so much detail went into it.

I think even you knew it was fake there was still that element of doubt on the night of transmission.
The irony is the peoples who block the telephone lines make the hoax more believe

That’s really cool and great to hear!
Sad fact: An 18 year old boy with developmental issues took his life 5 days after saying that if there were ghosts then he would become a ghost too.
I want to see this!!!
Got this on disc from 101 Films, still have to watch it !
Was the best halloween ever! Loved it as a kid
Omg i remember watching this live. I was so young. I honestly shit my pants. Greats times 😂
Haha that’s great
Saw it live in 92 best thing bbc ever made
I just watched last week. I love found footage horror so im surprised i never heard of it. I enjoyed it. Genuinely creepy.
You won’t have heard of it unless you were around in 1992. The BBC have buried and covered up the existence of the show ever since.

@@rjzavala87 indeed it is.
These movies don`t even scare me and I usually have no interest in them.
No of course not it was a hoax
Did you actually say brave enough 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It’s not even scary 😂😂😂😂😂
