    I have my grandmother's electric waffle iron from the 30's and was looking for ideas when I stumbled on your video. I was so very pleasantly surprised. Your manner and expertise suprisingly just ministered to my inner man and my desire to live the simple, old-fashioned life. Thank you so much, sir! I am very thankful that you posted this video. It is the first time I have felt like this old girl could actually do it. :) Blessings!

    Well > you are certainly getting me to see just where I can find a waffle iron locally. That is why I'm dragging my feet. It floats my boat to acquire items from my neighbors, as I usually also get a family history as well... The 1921 Hoosier cabinet I recently acquired belonged to the grandmother of my friend. So JC >> you have sufficiently motivated me to get cracking !All the best my friend.

    Hello from Prince Edward Island
    This doesn't fall under Cast Iron but I recently dug out my Bamboo Steamer and placed it in a shallow cast iron pan with water and poached chicken breasts. My point is using the wood stove as a utilitarian device in as many ways as possible. The nice thing about a steamer is that it is 'stacked', so you could steam veg on top and chicken on the bottom.
    Thanks Boss for the videos, so much to learn from you

    Ok, I did the complete unthinkable JC , I used a semi grinding pad on a drill & removed every thing on this pan & I KNOW YOUR CUSSING NOW ! LOL but it worked & came out like new ! ! ! YES REALLY : ) I ground it all out then used 150 grit then emory paper washed & re-seasoned it like 10 times then in the oven for 2 hours at 500 degrees with me coating it every 30 mins & holy crap it's awesome ! I cooked on it this morning bacon & eggs NOTHING AT ALL STUCK TO THE PAN ! then I cleaned it up gave it a light coating of extra virgin olive oil & wal la ! It's a beautiful thing buddy. : ) Don't shake that finger at me young man ! ! ! LOL It was really the only way to get all that crap off it JC. I actually saved it from pitting any further too !
    Give Frankie a pet & god bless buddy

      I've done the same on some old Wagners I bought that were crusty. Even used a rotary sander lol. The pans had wobble to them so I figured they'd make good pans for my rocket stove. I'd never do that stuff to my good pans but never need to :-)

    This has helped me so much. My husband bought me a vintage waffle iron for Christmas. It's a McCleary NO 9, made in 1914. If I could upload a photo, I would. I will be following your process exactly. It has a little bit of rust, but it's in really good shape. I've been waiting for this. We love your videos, an I especially love this one. Cooking on our Kitchen Queen, we use all cast iron. Would love some more videos with your Kitchen Queen: cooking, proper maintenance, etc and how to get the oven up to bread-baking temp. I get ours up to about 300 degrees and the house temp gets up to about 80. I gave up on it the other night; I'm sure it's me. A little advice...

    • @thebossoftheswamp
      @thebossoftheswamp  7 років тому

      I'll see what I can do but yes, the hotter the fire, the hotter the house gets. Cooking with wood calls for adjustments in lifestyle. Opening windows will help with that.

    • @joydavis4087
      @joydavis4087 7 років тому

      thebossoftheswamp That would be great. I look forward to it. I think perhaps I wasn't patient enough. I had the oven engaged for over an hour, the flue closed, the door vent closed, but I kept the window wash open. That could have been part of it. We have the glass doors, which comes with a window wash lever to keep smoke away from the glass. I had the oven up to 300, not enough to cook a pizza. It's a learning curve, I know and I'm determined. I can tell you, I've never been one to cling to material things, but from the day we had it installed, I was attached. This cook stove makes me happy. I absolutely love cooking with wood. I just want to make sure I'm getting it right.

    Very nice results on the waffle iron, I have been looking for one for a long time, but it doesn't seem that to many get rid of their cast iron around here. About 12 years ago though I was at a yard sale, they had one whole table of just cast iron and I bought 2 fry pans they over two burners. I figured I could cook a whole meal in one pan with that size. I think I am going to have to season them a little more after watching and listening to your video! Thanks so much for the lesson!
