It’s honestly chilling how he says it and then kills him immediately
David Morrissey was a brilliant casting choice for The Governor.
Kevin Spacey would’ve been good too
Funny thing is, the Governor role was offered to John Hawkes first but he turned it down. Don’t know what he was thinking.
@@MT-tu8dthe would have been cool
David morrisey should be in more movies like Rooker, danai, yeun and Jeffrey dean
At first glance, killing soldiers who are literally the most trained individuals u can have on your side in this scenario is stupid, but this was a really good introduction to what the governor would be further on
An idiot 🤭
They obviously took liberties to shoot a cool, cinematic shot.
Yea this set the tone really well and showed what the Gov was capable of
He probably wasn't going to give away the leadership
Governor saw them as a threat. I just love this shot of Governor too.
Least insane altima driver
😂
Was probably his car before the apocalypse when he lived a normal life
In the Governor’s defense, the troops likely would’ve tried to take control of Woodbury if he did spare them.
There’s no evidence of this
@@remphz3321 realistically the governor is completely in the right regardless, considering the military started using napalm on civilians and were executing them in the hallways of hospitals if u remember the flashback from season 2. I can't imagine a lot of the newfound rage in the average American towards their military if something like that were to happen
@@The_King_Of_Leeches the governor didn’t know any of that and as we see in TOWL, not everyone did that.
not a reason to kill a group of strangers unprompted hope that helps 👍
@@remphz3321They’re military, they wouldn’t have just given up their power that easily.
The governor truly was the best best TWD villain, pure evil.
Agreed. Negan was pretty damn good but honestly Gov will always be my favorite
@@moose10231 True. Negan was more of a personality and a one liner King. But he had his morals and rules to follow vs. The Governor who was Too Far Gone. He'd use Biters to his advantage too. He had that dark sinister side to him. I do wonder what would of happened if Governor and Negan ever met in another Universe.
The Governor was also the most skilled villain in a one on one fight. His aim is insane and he beat rick easily in hand to hand.

@@kyuubiv.8046his soldier pal just died and he forgot why
it is weird how the soldier leader appears so timid and afraid and all sketched out, governor isnt even a soldier and is way more calm than these guys
Soldiers are people. The average national guard soldier has very little training or experience in combat.
They let their guard down and believe governor saying ..
Because the world has ended everyone is a threat
Bro they were j standing around like idiots @@juuzousuzuya3566
@@spinofthewheel5345at that point, people hadn’t become the threat, at least not as much. I think it is that those soldiers lost their friends, and are worried that they will die soon.
You just can't look away when The Governor gives this psychopathic "death stare" at 0:58, it estabilished that other non-Messiah part of his personality so well.
i am wearing headphones while watching this and as the gov drives up the opening credit music of mgm or paramount or 21st century or whatever is quietly playing in the background. LISTEN LOL
Lol im glad im not the only one that notice that too
Omg you're right
I just realised that too
Yea, it’s so weird.
I should’ve never joined the infantry. I used to be able to enjoy shows now I’m just focused on how trained soldiers don’t immediately preform RTR and try to gain fire superiority
Well maybe being in the zombie apocalypse has been a bit disorienting, huh
@@rblossom956 That, and the soldiers probably had their guard down as well
@Jack574 I would never let my guard down in a combat environment. The moment you are holding a rifle. There is no way they wouldn't have a sentry or perimeter set up. We are trained to operate on a small level. We don't need to wait for command from above to adapt to a changing situation. It's a show man. These actors didn't get trained nor have they spent any length of time in a military environment. You can read a script and bring in experts but it's hard to replicate habit that develops from experience.

Never understood why he didn't brought them to the camp 9 out of 10 they would have just joined the crew so now they have experienced soldiers at their camp. Never understood why he made this decision .
The governor knew that he wouldn't be able to get those soldiers to follow his lead. Soldiers live by a moral code, and he was not going to break them, or force them to follow his orders.
@@hajinka98_ “moral code” usa soldier follow does not mean anything… see what happen to children and civilian in iraq…

@@eduardo550 yet while terrorists are, rightly, seen as bad soldiers who kill innocents are seen as heroes and their crimes are not punished
Going off the Woodbury novels, I think the Governor and his men have a personal vendetta against US military, given that the town used to be run by soldiers who abused their power. Hence part of the reason why they did this and why later on he's literally foaming from the mouth with rage while smashing that one soldier's skull in with a rifle stock.
That's interesting. By novels, do you mean comics?
@@MrPatPatriot223 No, actually. They made a series of actual books that explain how the Governor (the comic book version at least) found Woodbury, took it over, and what happened to it after the assault on the prison.
@@johnnymccraze I figured as much considering there were a lot of reasons to hate the military in the TWD universe. I've always felt like the governor was super emotionally driven despite appearing extremely cold and empty
@@The_King_Of_Leechesin the show*
from what i understand, the military itself in the comics never opened fire on civilians or napalm bombed them but rather set up safe zones in cities.
if the woodbury novels are canon to comics then it could always be a milhaven situation like l4d where they were cut off from the rest of army and thus acted on their own accord.
The practical effects in the older szns made a big difference. The newer seasons don’t have them.
Rewatching this part, all the bullet and gun effects are done practical which is something you don’t see anymore sadly
The governor's walk is just as good as patrick bateman's walk
@TheGovernor2003but who is the ryan gosling of twd?
@TheGovernor2003 They’re talking about you Wreeeck…. But you’re still getting Shanedddd…..
You know what I don't understand. These guys are trained soldiers. And tbh if these guys were legit they would have never let the governor get the drop on them. Let alone get surrounded without lookouts or a perimeter. Hell i doubt they would even let the Governor drive up without getting shot at first. But hey it's just a TV show and I know nothing about military tactics.
No, ur right.
yeah they seemed to be in a way too vulnerable position especially considering its an open field lol. and they just let the governor approach like that is crazy
These are national guard, weekend soldiers, and you’re stupid if you think being in a US army uniform makes you immune to an ambush lol.
@@CallForGrandPappy Sure, but how the soldiers didn't notice the loud pistol shot and kill the Governor within seconds is beyond me. The scene serves as a character introduction anyways.
@@someguy8951 Probably never had prior urban combat roles or expected that type of behavior from what they would consider civilians. It hadn't been that long since the shit went down and they probably only ever killed walkers and lived off of military rations without seeing warfare between survivors. Then all of a sudden they are encircled and ambushed by survivors with guns and shot at from every angle, yeah they went down fast.
The plot armour on this guy is just insane. That one soldier standing on top was just looking around confused for seconds before he got mowed down
I mean, lets be honest. Every importante character in this show had an ABSURD plot armor (especially after season 3)
Man, imagine if Rick's group found these soldiers instead. Rick wouldn't just massacre them. They would be more than willing to defend the prison (and better knowing the group's leader was a sheriff). They gave off Abraham vibes; it would be an interesting dynamic if they eventually met him and Rosita (another former soldier).
They would've tried taking control of the prison 100%. They wouldn't want to follow Rick. They'd figure he was a "civilian" and they had more authority being ex-military almost certainly.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2022
I noticed that Season 3 of The Walking Dead and Netflix's Outer Banks has a few actor overlaps. The actor that plays the corporal in this scene is the same as JJ's dad Luke. One of the guys in Woodbury morning after the attack, when they're all trying to leave, is the same as Pope's dad Heyward.
I spent like an hour staring at them trying to remember where I recognized them from.
Also Big John was one of the savior soldier in Season 8
They probably shared casting directors/agencies
This man fr pulled up to their spot all chill and shit and killed every last one of them and took their shit
Dude, i remember that one soldier that ran and the "governor" shot him over 100 yards away with no sights on his rifle.😂 as a gun collector, that shit made me burst out laughing... 😂
It’s not crazy unrealistic. Shooting iron sights is not that hard. Now standing up? Were he prone supported or kneeling supported, it could happen.
Its almost like it's a television show and not real life
You probably don’t do a lot of shooting if you think that’s impossible, I imagine that’s a pretty dusty collection lmao.
Am I the only one who hears the 21 century theme?
no
Wow military people are so dumb in this scene. Soldiers with training wouldn't stand out in an open field when a civilian or anybody approaches them. Anyway, nice on Gov! :-D
"We Sure Did..We Found You Too💥...........(Starts Walking Passed Everyone With Gun Shots On Screen and In The Back Round)
More than 9 months passed here so it could explain why they let their guard down considering they're just soldiers, however trained soldiers when setting up a perimeter they need to watch their surroundings so I'm not sure whether they just didn't use their training or they were not trained appropriately considering its possible guardsmen in some states may not have had the appropriate training, they're less trained in general, but it's probably most likely a problem of the show
In the comics/novels, the Governor was even more deranged and he launched a single massive attack that destroyed the prison and killed everyone. After killing Lori and, accidentally, Judith, Lilly Caul shot him in the back of the head and left the Governor to be devoured. In the aftermath, only Lilly and a few others escaped to return to Woodbury as the prison was overrun. The novel series then continued to follow them as Lilly led the surviving residents of Woodbury through many trials and tribulations.
I’m obviously going to be devils advocate. But if you use this scene as your pivotal point for why the governor is evil, then you agree that Rick grimes and his group are evil for attacking negans outpost.
-
Point is, nothing is black and white in TWD
Well the saviors where corrupt and terrorizing on people, huge difference. Despite that, Rick at the end choose to not kill negan and let the majority of the saviors alive and on cooperation with the others settlements, because he realized they could do better and be better, something the governor could have never done. He was a psychotic guy obsessed with having power and order under his command.
@@corv538 The military in the walking dead universe was also corrupt and was shown dropping napalm on innocent lives.
They only attacked AFTER Jesus told Rick about Negan and the saviours, what they did to the Hilltop community. And also 6-8 men of Negan's men ambushed Darul,Abraham and Sasha in middle of the road so their attack against the outpast was just the right thing to do.
@@hajinka98_ the military also dropped napalm on the streets of Atlanta during the outbreak and committed mass genocide against the american people while it was happening.
@@Hans-yo2cq Seems like you never heard about ''Martial law''. They had to do whatever it takes to stop the infection. It's not like they can prioritize people's feelings in a lethal virus outbreak really. Atlanta was probably swarmed with the dead and they thought dropping a bomb would permanently stop the spread of the virus.
Hot take: governor was the best villain on the show
that’s not a hot take that’s just the reurh
Irl. These soldiers would be ready for anything and have muzzles on em. If he made even the slightest move he’d be shot. Even if it was an ambush. They’d still get shots off before
I have no idea why they decided to kill them. I’m sure they would join Governor’s army.
They woulda tried to take control
He just wanted their supplies and no competition
Been thinking about that shirtlress marine a lot. Love his rambo style he got going on. or had I should say. He's the typa physique I wanna attain someday. Too bad them soldier boys didn't have their kevlar. Maybe they lost it. or maybe it got too heavy to carry so they had to ditch it. Maybe it was used once and it couldn't be used again. Or maybe they just didn't have access to it the time the outbreak happened. Those were good boys. every last one of them. Rest in peace fellas. You served your country the best you could.
Why in the intro you hear the movie music 😂
I always wondered why they were pulling that trailer. I didn't put it together until just recently when I asked my about it and it's for their chopper.
It sounds dumb when I think about it outloud now but I always assumed it was always following the truck around as the soldier's eye in the sky.
One of the best scenes in season 3 ever!! Definitely top 3!!

Best villain. The Governor !
If governor had brains he would took them soldiers in made them part of Woodbury strengthened his colony
He wanted their supplies and he was nuts. In the comics/novels, the Governor was even more deranged and he launched a single massive attack that destroyed the prison and killed everyone. The Governor was a sociopath - and the soldiers posed a threat to his power. They were trained veterans, so eventually even these guys wouldn't have agreed with his abuse of power.
They would've tried taking over, or the people would've insisted on the highest ranking guy being in command over the Governor. It wouldn't have been a seamless "these guys now listen to me" kind of thing like so many people seem to think.
For anyone wondering how the soldiers got their ass kicked, this is not their first rodeo, it's called guerilla warfare which utilizes ambush tactics (Revolution War, Vietnam, Philippines, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, etc)
Dont forget emergency

What if Rick found pilot first and meet those National Guard?
Michonne still leave the Woodbury and met Rick who now has group of soldiers in his side.
Tyreese, Sasha and their group would probably joined Rick as Allen saw they have Soldiers on their side, he don't want to rob them, don't want to get shot.
And when Governor first attack the prison. Alex survived because if some of soldiers managed to spot Governor first they fired upon Woodbury soldiers and has no casualties on Prison group while Governor's group got humiliated and destroyed, this enraged him more.
Prison would be much more fortified.
@@Phuajunwei Rick would've been ousted by the Soldiers as he was a civilian and they "know better" being in the military. Some of them may have been bad guys as well; just because they are in the military doesn't mean they aren't buttholes who would rape or bully people in the prison. There's more of them too then armed people at the prison and they would have stuck as their own little clique; if they said "We are in charge now Rick" -- what recourse would Rick and the group have?
@@williambourque926 But let's say this particular group of soldiers are all bunch of nice people?
@@Phuajunwei I think the Governor (and to a lesser extreme) Rick both figured out in a zombie apocalypse survival situation that chemistry > sheer numbers. All it takes is 1 bad apple (see Shane) to rile up dissension in a tight nit group of survivors. Is the group stronger with someone like Shane amongst them? Yes - but is it a better run machine? No.
Now - imagine if out of the those military guys 3-4 of them are the Shane archetype; hot headed know it all douchebags that refuse to follow Rick's orders and fight him on everything (because they know better). Now you've just brought in another faction and it's full of wild cards you cannot easily deal with. The idea that they would just happily enter a situation and after being told Rick or the Governor was in charge they'd go along with it easily ... I don't think makes sense. The soldiers (or at least some of them)... WOULD want to assume control, or at the very least have a HUGE say in what happens -- which would undermine Rick or the Governor's autonomy.
Sadly I think you need dictators in a zombie apocalypse situation to be effective (without a HUGE population base behind you). See how well Negan did for himself with the Saviors for the extreme version of it (when compared with what Ricks' group was mostly a part of).
