In the series, when Merle was arguing with Daryl in the woods, it comes out that Merle and Daryl were severely beaten and abused as kids by their father.
Merle didn't deserve to die the way he did. We were just getting to see his redemption only to be snatched away immediately. I am somewhat biased though because he was my favorite character for the few episodes he appeared in.
What do you mean true narcissist? If my understanding of the term is correct, they’re incredibly selfish, rarely consider how things affect others, and will actively harm others if it helps them in some way or makes them appear better. The ones I’ve met and known aren’t good at hiding it at all. The only way they’re good at hiding is through technicality. They love taking hyper specific jabs at people so when the story is recalled after they push someone to beating their ass, they can cry wolf. Then they feel superior because even though they started it and then acted like a pussy after, in their mind they controlled you.
Rick and the gang also gunned down a bunch of the governors men in the attack on Woodbury and when Merle attacked them a 2nd time killing 8’men so all together around 20+ of the govs soldiers were dead b4 the gov lost it and just killed the rest of the civilians cuz they couldn’t fight like his old friends
The Governor really won prize for “asshole of the year award” at the end. Even after all the harm the Governor caused Rick’s group, at the end, Rick swallowed his hate and stretched out his hand with a peaceful resolution that would’ve saved both groups. If Philip really wanted to see his group survive as he claims, he’d swallow his pride and accept the deal. But no, he just can’t get past his ego and personal feelings, and attacks, getting most killed. It kinda annoys me that Carl is so mad at Rick afterwards. Why? Rick did everything he could to prevent the fight and showed Philip a lot more mercy than Philip deserved and it was Philip alone who chose the violent attack anyway when it so easily could’ve been avoided. As I said - Philip - “prize winning asshole.”

The governor from the show and the one in the comics and road to woodbury books are completely different characters... The governor from the show is definitely more like the brother of the governor in the books (who was also named Phillip).
I always found it funny that people find Governor arc Michone as being annoying because she's antagonistic to the obviously bad guys, the lady's got survival instincts, a bullshit detector and she's obviously not well "socialized" those days. Merle is one of the interesting character and his death have put a big crack in me watching Daryl crying as he only got so less time with his brother after they separated
As for twd show he is my favorite villain Although i really like Negan as a character, i know his redemption isnt realistic at all, so it has to knock him down a notch.
One of the scariest details that most people miss about the torture room is that on the table there is a metal speculum. The same kind of metal speculum used for vaginal exams.
Cool video of the governor, back then while I was 12 , used to watch the walking dead with my sister, to me I always thought that the governor was the bigger individual in the show . But he’s really an iconic villain in the series like this dude had all the package .
Did anyone else notice the empty casing hit the floor and echoing right after Andrea is shot by Michonne? I didn't know that Rick's python was a semi automatic, lol 😂 Good old walking dead sound effects in the first seasons. Also, Carl's baseball bat aluminum suppressor on the end of that Beretta M9 was pretty awesome as well
I truly don't understand why the fact that governor kept his dead daughter in the office is so bad. In season 2, when Rick and the team where on the farm, dead relatives have been also kept in the separate house and fed. That act is usually interpreted as mercy, but why this one is bad?! It has always been a question for me.
Hershel had come around to see keeping them around was wrong. The reason it’s seen that way, is because they don’t truly know what is left inside. Even if .1% of the person is still inside, it could be seen as torture to leave them alive. Michonne was of this belief, that’s why she kept her boyfriend as the pet, as punishment for him, and herself.
There is something way more sinister how governor does it. Hes very unhinged man still managing to keep mask on publicly. Hesrshel kept walkers out of pure compassion at that point he didnt understand what really was going on, and he thought they are just sick people that maybe one day comes cure, but Shane showed him they are not people anymore, and that snapped him to the reality of the situation
@@lalli8152 well the governor is a bit like hearshel in that sense but also the governor was just in denial, he wasn’t really a sick man at first, he had just lost everything, his wife and daughter, but he didn’t want that do be true. Once his walker daughter was killed he lost everything and only cared about getting revenge
I guess my one argument is when the person who saved you & kept you alive for months (Michonne) says something is wrong with this town, why don’t you listen?! Then when she didn’t kill the Governor in his sleep, I lost all respect for her.
Andrea was an idiot the entire show. She almost killed darrel, continuously created social issues and she not only picked the governor to followbut shane even before that. Two murdering cowards who are not above hurting women and children for personal gain. Not only was she incapable and weak at the beginning but even after she became proficient at killing she stayed stupid. Until the bitter end.
Merle was calling back to god when he was "bagging" on the roof in s1, i don't think so he had nearly as much time he needed as he deserved, everyone felt he was taken out too early, i mean he was only alive for 2 episodes in s1 and 12 in s3 which really underusing character, not counting every and each episode of screentime it is even lower. It is sad, he deserved to be atleast shown to the end of s6 Martinez was killed by him because he didn't want to be leader again, to make other atrocities happen (showing broken persona), as Martinez said : Maybe we can share the *crown* a little. Also screaming *I don't want, I don't want it* (he was trying to become changed man, but he knows that true leader would never ask to share the crown, otherwise it would show his incompetence.
I was under the impression his name was not really Philip? I thought he stole his brother’s name, because he wasn’t proud of anything? I could be wrong.
In the comics Yes. But No in the series. In the series Phillip was his real name and he took the name Brian from some name on a wall when he was marching through some wasteland after losing the Woodberry. It's a pity that the guy didn't fix himself then because he had a chance with this new family and new identity. He tried to change at the beginning but eventually he started doing what he had done before, although whether he would be as angry as before if he had this new family with him is a moot point.
I feel like the governor keeping his daughter wasnt that disturbing. Grief is a powerful thing and i think it shows that hes not good at letting go of things that need to be let go of. Like, him sending people after Michone and how he still tries to attack the prison after the first defeat adds to this. You could even say that him keeping severed heads is also an example of him not being able to let go or move past things Edit: i also wonder if theres meant to be some nuance behind why andrea ends up trusting the governor over michone. Like, obviously hes manipulative, but i wonder if some unconscious racial bias had something to do with why she was willing to trust so quickly especially when michone (the person she had spent the winter with) said something was up with the place. Like wouldnt you trust that person over the guy you just met, even if he seems really nice?
Nah your really reaching with that racist nonsense and looking at it from one side just like this whole vid was. She just almost starved and died form sickness so why the hell would she give up paradise just cos her friend doesn't like hanging out and working with folk but instead would rather choose to cut about the forest over her friend. Friendship goes both ways michone didn't listen to her and so she didn't listen to mashon. Being friends with someone dose not mean you should be brainless and let that person dictate your life. Michone showed no evidence for her wiled accusations of someone who's been nothing but nice to them and so you can't blame her friend for not wanting to throw here life away cos her friend doesn't like living good for a change. Andria may have chose a hot meal and bed over her friend but michone chose starvation and the forest life over hers so it goes both ways. You got to look at it from both sides and not just one. That place was nothing more then a hot meal and friendly faces if michone had just kept her long noes moral nonsense to herself before dragging a whole other group into it to fight the war she started for no reason.
Didn't The Governor have a brother in the novel Rise of the Governor? It's been a long time since I read it but from what I can remember is that Penny was actually his niece and Philip Blake/ The Governor was actually the younger brother Brian and he assumes Philip's identity after Philip is killed in the novel.
You’re correct, but the novels follow the comic continuity which is different. I’m the show, penny’s his daughter, and from what I remember Philip never even mentions a brother
I’m 100% gonna be covering the ones who live! The others I’m gonna get around to but I enjoy doing videos on specific arks and characters, rather than whole seasons. But who knows!

There’s a lot of plot holes in terms of how the infection can spread like for one example michonne stabbing the governor in the eye with Walker tainted water, wouldn’t it infect him with the virus?
Yeah you’re 100% right. That’s just one of those things you gotta suspend your disbelief for. It wouldn’t have been as big a deal if they didn’t have the saviours weaponize it in season 8
@@DrakeSmith-tn6ij abused children usually grow up with those traumas and either they become better people or they become worse than the person that abused them

Safety and power. The Prison was built better to keep zombies out than a town. More land for farming in a safe area. The cell blocks could house more people, hold more storage. Power aspect, setting would help tear down followers' sense of individuality. Easy to lock up to anyone who questioned his authority.
Much more interesting than Negan because Negan was still a normal person before the outbreak happened, but it seems like the Governor was a time bomb and the outbreak made it worse.
What’s weird to me is we all seem to judge socio/psychopaths heavily. But…we all respond differently to trauma. If we lost everyone we cared about, who’s to say we’d be any different than they would? I know we all think we wouldn’t, but how do we know? Edit: yes, I’m aware they’re a threat. Of course they are. I’m not saying to pretend otherwise.

Watching this makes you wonder what it would have been like if Glen Mazzara didn't choose to kill off Andrea. Like would Carol still end up being the same person she became as the seasons went on and would Andrea became more similar to how she was in comics?
I think the governor should've got a second chance and redeemed himself to help Rick fight off a bigger threat at Woodbury only to die to save his new family but Rick thinks that he saved them.
Cool video. However, Penny was killed pre woodbury and Philip survived with his brother Brian and Philip's friends Bobby and Nick. Rise Of The Governor is the backstory of the comics version of this character, and the show version experienced a similar version of that backstory. Penny was a walker when he arrived at Woodbury, my theory is that he killed his brother after Brian tried to prevent Philip from feeding someone to Penny, whom Philip believed to still be alive.
@@Swell-Films In s3, Michonne sees the names Brian, Bobby and Nick in Philips notebook. Also on a previous there was a note about sending an email, so that confirmed that he wasn't at Woodbury when the apocalypse began.
Actually Brian killed Phillip and took Philips persona in the book. He's not even the real mean tough brother he was weak and scared until he took over his younger brothers persona

Absolutely, she was a shark smelling blood! She was no shark bait! I agree with you about Michonne.
Very well done video. Im appreciative with netflix blocking twd behind a higher paywall and pluto mostly just showing ftwd now. Keep up the good work
Merle is one of the interesting character and his death have put a big crack in me watching Daryl crying as he only got so less time with his brother after they separated
As for twd show he is my favorite villain
Although i really like Negan as a character, i know his redemption isnt realistic at all, so it has to knock him down a notch.
My thoughts exactly
Negan realistically woulda lost his mind and or killed himself during the timeskip, the fact he comes out unscathed was so unrealistic
The show turned into diarrhea after season 5 so yeah
One of the scariest details that most people miss about the torture room is that on the table there is a metal speculum. The same kind of metal speculum used for vaginal exams.
Cool video of the governor, back then while I was 12 , used to watch the walking dead with my sister, to me I always thought that the governor was the bigger individual in the show . But he’s really an iconic villain in the series like this dude had all the package .
Did anyone else notice the empty casing hit the floor and echoing right after Andrea is shot by Michonne?
I didn't know that Rick's python was a semi automatic, lol 😂
Good old walking dead sound effects in the first seasons.
@@Swell-FilmsI really like your explanation of this
Because it’s shows selfishness, he’s not keeping her for her sake but for his own, everything the governor does boils down to selfishness
Once his walker daughter was killed he lost everything and only cared about getting revenge
im so happy i found your channel, i will be binge watching it over the holidays
Haha I appreciate that! Enjoy!
People can’t understand that Andrea didn’t know what we as the viewer knew about the Governor
Exactly. But that being said, the writers didn’t Portray it very well
I guess my one argument is when the person who saved you & kept you alive for months (Michonne) says something is wrong with this town, why don’t you listen?!
It is sad, he deserved to be atleast shown to the end of s6
Martinez was killed by him because he didn't want to be leader again, to make other atrocities happen (showing broken persona), as Martinez said :
Maybe we can share the *crown* a little.
Also screaming *I don't want, I don't want it* (he was trying to become changed man, but he knows that true leader would never ask to share the crown, otherwise it would show his incompetence.
I agree merle was wasted, and if he dies make it realistic, bro really died to a walker making noise
OMG, this is so GOOD, Love the Governor!
Thank you so much! He’s definitely the most iconic villain from the show
11:23 she sent us a biter-gram Yo!
Im confused why you dont have more subs and views. You are great at this
Thanks so much!
I never thought in a million years I’d even reach this point so I’m thankful!
7:54 Considering Andrea NEVER listens to advice least of all any good...
14:46. You know. I always wondered why she did not just lie and mention the Farm instead. Imagine them going there and seeing it overrun.
You could even say that him keeping severed heads is also an example of him not being able to let go or move past things
Edit: i also wonder if theres meant to be some nuance behind why andrea ends up trusting the governor over michone.
Appreciate you working full time while putting out these bangers
Your videos are so entertaining and well put together! Thank you :)
This channel is too damn underrated.
Haha appreciate that!
Never seen this comment before . Original
bro switched his name from philip to brian because he lost an eye
Excellent content. Good job 👏👏👍
Thank you!!
Raises glass to"The World's Quietest Tank"
Another fantastic video my friend
Thank you so much!
Great video. Merle didn’t bring back Michonne’s sword though? I thought u said that. I may have misheard you.
No you’re correct, I did say that. I only noticed the mistake after I uploaded
If they left this man alone, the city would be there till the end of TWD...
You mean if he would have left Rick alone. Yeah your right 😊
Didn't The Governor have a brother in the novel Rise of the Governor? It's been a long time since I read it but from what I can remember is that Penny was actually his niece and Philip Blake/ The Governor was actually the younger brother Brian and he assumes Philip's identity after Philip is killed in the novel.
You’re correct, but the novels follow the comic continuity which is different.
I’m the show, penny’s his daughter, and from what I remember Philip never even mentions a brother
I downloaded this video a few weeks back, glad I finally got around to it :) great video!!
Thanks for sticking with it!
Why downvote
Loved the video! Thanks for this.
Great analysis on this, I’m excited to see how you handle the less consistent characters later. Any plans for the spin-offs?
I’m 100% gonna be covering the ones who live! The others I’m gonna get around to but I enjoy doing videos on specific arks and characters, rather than whole seasons. But who knows!
This reminds me of why I watched the show in the first place. I had frankly forgotten 😂
The governor was one of the best villains. He gave just enough away to feel dread but he was also sympathetic because of his daughter. I thought he was great.
Love this video on my favorite walking dead character! Also like your camera work for when you're talking, the way it's placed behind your head with the green lights. Gonna subscribe due to you having so many walking dead videos!
I dig your channel man great work!!!!
Thanks so much man!
31:15 Merle is trying to talk to God, not the Governor. This is a callback from when he was handcuffed on a roof back in season 1.
Perhaps not enough was on the blade or dilluded by the water
Everyone's infected tho
The Governor gives abusive husband/father vibes. I think he always was a psychopath
The governor mentioned in “Dead Weight” that he was abused as a child.
@@DrakeSmith-tn6ij abused children usually grow up with those traumas and either they become better people or they become worse than the person that abused them
Phillip shouldn’t have burned down woodbury, he could’ve started over
I think Rick would’ve put an end to that before he even got the chance tbh
Right Woodbury was too far gone.
Finally someone who understands Andrea’s character
Another banger vid thank you swell films
Governor: 50% Jim Jones, 50% abusive husband type. Its cool that Carols the one that told Andrea to kill him because she knows his "brand" of monster when she sees one. I feel like the people who despise Andrea are ridiculous types that will blame the woman for not leaving a man like him who has his claws in her
the actor who plays the Governor aka Phillip Blake made a really good villain and a really good actor
I like how you make these videos. New sub for sure
Can someone explain to me why did the governor want the prison in the first place when he and they have a literal town?
Power
Safety and power.
The Prison was built better to keep zombies out than a town. More land for farming in a safe area. The cell blocks could house more people, hold more storage.
Power aspect, setting would help tear down followers' sense of individuality. Easy to lock up to anyone who questioned his authority.
Who knew rick would take his own hand and not Govy
This was such a beautiful and amazing video, thank you for making this and we are greatful for this video, 10/10❤
Great video, lots or research gone i yo that. Keep up the great work
Much more interesting than Negan because Negan was still a normal person before the outbreak happened, but it seems like the Governor was a time bomb and the outbreak made it worse.
This is edited like he’s in a horror movie 🙏😭
U just earned a subscriber for this amazing video
Thank you so much! Welcome aboard
Still the best Character in the series
What’s weird to me is we all seem to judge socio/psychopaths heavily. But…we all respond differently to trauma. If we lost everyone we cared about, who’s to say we’d be any different than they would? I know we all think we wouldn’t, but how do we know? Edit: yes, I’m aware they’re a threat. Of course they are. I’m not saying to pretend otherwise.
I'm exactly like The Governor except I have aquariums of weiners.
@@householdgamblerlike people's junk or actual hot dogs? Please tell me you mean hot dogs.
you're right, if a dude has human heads for TV I'm gonna reconsider if I'm being a meanie weanie to him and consider that he may just respond differently 🎉
@@Shannon-vv6rr learn how to read. I didn’t say they weren’t a threat. And they should be treated as such. But guess what? Most of the ones on tv are deeply traumatized individuals. Let’s see how you respond to that. I have a feeling you’ll be a little bit of a “meanie weanie” yourself. Are you suggesting we immediately go nuclear the second you are?
Watching this makes you wonder what it would have been like if Glen Mazzara didn't choose to kill off Andrea. Like would Carol still end up being the same person she became as the seasons went on and would Andrea became more similar to how she was in comics?
Underrated channel how do you not have at least 50k subscribers
Denise Huth-one of the producers for the show, i think-is the woman in the picture portraying his wife. She's a looker.
Great Video. Good job c:
I love your vids they have a nice touch of horror in them due to your excellent storytelling and and excellent song selection for vids
Hey thanks so much! :)
Once the Governor killed Herschel, i never watched it again. I love listening to a great video on it, and thanks.
La bibidi bibidum, La bibibidu.. Cluck went the chicken!
You should do a video about the claimers next.
That’s hilarious I’m actually writing the script for the claimers now
@@Swell-Films same minds think alike I guess but the Claimers are by far my favorite side villain in the show so I wanted to see you cover them.
I really liked this guy. A proper evil guy.
the power to change the like number from 4k to 4.1k is one humanity should not have
I think the governor should've got a second chance and redeemed himself to help Rick fight off a bigger threat at Woodbury only to die to save his new family but Rick thinks that he saved them.
Good catch! I’ve never actually read them even though I’ve had them for years. I should get them out one of these days
@@householdgambler That happens in the comics universe, however the governor in the show universe is Philip Blake. Penny is his daughter, and the photo that he has of his family proves that.
Great videos! TWD forever! I'm gonna downloard these, and make some cool blu-rays 😃
The actor that plays Myrle should play Kano in a Mortal Kombat movie
great video dropped a like but why are the clips inverted
Clips are inverted for copyright protection
@@Swell-Films oh ok makes sense
@@ABLQuality yeah it’s unfortunate, but I’ve used more images for my recent videos so I’ve been able to avoid it more
