Are you looking at a lime mortar grout for the floor so it can breathe. There are some good stone cleaners out there along with water based sealants but as I presume there is not a damp proof membrane under the floor it must be allowed to breathe. What a wonderful find and well done to you both for all the hard work you have put into it. I shall enjoy watching you renovate your cottage. It might be worth looking on old census and records to get some idea of the history of the building. Good luck.
Yes we're looking at lime mortar, I believe we need to use nhl 5 for the floor as it will need to withstand footfall. You guessed right, there is no membrane but now that the concrete is off it can breathe again! Great idea about looking at an old census and records, we'll see what we can find.
