i drive a 2010 toyota camry LE with the 2.5 4 cylinder and the 6 speed automatic transmission. It only has 81,000 kilometers on it ! It only had 71,000 kilometers on it when i bought it off the original owner(an 83 year old woman, at the end of november 2023 !

It's cheaper to pour money into an older car than spend $40,000+ on a depreciating item. I just installed a new remanufactured motor into my 2000 Buick LeSabre for only $2,400 and now I have a brand new car again😂😂. The original motor lasted over 700,000 miles.
I completely agree with you. I never understood the logic of people saying don’t put money into an older car. I just spent $5k in repairs on my 2001 Lumina. She drives like a brand new car now. Why would I turn around and purchase a $65k SUV, which is going to depreciate? That $5k I spent will get many joyful years out of that car without the hassle of a car payment and higher insurance premiums. 🤷🏾♂️👊🏾
My mechanic recommended not to buy a car made after 2010 because that was when manufactures put way too much technology and electronics into cars meaning alot more things will do wrong. Also, I have driven new model cars and they feel too automated, computerised and no feeling or driver involvement like the older cars have.
Yep. My 2008 Honda FIT still gets 36 mpg and all the older Honda Civics were rated for 38 mpg. There is no reason to upgrade to the CVT transmissions for fuel mileage. They fail at 150,000 miles anyway.
It's all about price and function. New cars cost too much and then they fall apart. Oftentimes new cars have cheap CVT whereas earlier cars had conventional automatics that hold up a little better.
I could hop online right now and buy just about any part I needed to build, say an 85 Ford Mustang from scratch. As long as it was a common popular model, parts aren’t going to be hard to get.
Am with u I have A mustang 2000 and I can find parts all day long original or after market. If ppl stick with popular cars they will never have to deal with no parts.
Still driving on 05 accord with 300,000 miles. The two times I've needed parts, they have been easy to find, either because there are just a lot of them floating around still, or Honda still makes parts for those cars. Found rear bumper for it in a junkyard that happened to be the right color (got rear ended), and found a new cv shafts when I found that the old ones were done for.

Both of my cars are ancient. 1969 Chevelle and a 1964 Valiant. I switch between them every so often, they are daily drivers. My dad has a 1994 Silverado I gave him that just turned 452k miles on the original engine; I replaced the trans around 380k. I have never owned a car newer than the 1970's, and I don't plan on it.
For one I don't think new cars hold up as well as older cars, number two I don't want to have a monthly payment, and number three the part most people forget is that your insurance usually goes through the roof with a new car. Literally 2 days ago I went to pick and pull to salvage apart from a wrecked vehicle that I could use on mine The park cost me $10 and saved me a grand that would have been charged at the dealership. Fix your own cars people. With that being said newer cars are getting more difficult to fix at home so that's a potentially expensive future repair that you're going to have to deal with.

I daily 2 older vehicles currently a 1989 dodge d100 with 254k in the summer and for fall and winter a 1993 jeep cherokee with 152k on it so far I've had no problems getting parts and they have both been easily maintained since I've been driving all I've owned has been from the early 80's to mid 90's
05 saturn here, got it just over 8 years ago. I’m proud to say it runs like new. It always gets full synthetic oil and 91 octane gas. Whatever it needs, it gets. Still spend more time on the road then in the shop, I could have saved a lot if I was able to many things myself but it still does the job fine, just over 300,000 km on the original motor.
My vehicles are 20+ years old my 40 year old truck fires right up in the winter like it's a joke! The only new vehicles I buy are motorcycles at least they keep their value.
I love my 2005 beetle! I’ve had it since I was a teen and only recently have I been in and out of the shop. Hope we get to the bottom of the issue soon 🙏🏽 but I feel fortunate to have had it nearly 14 years 😮 with relatively no major issues. Its at 171k miles now & I’m praying for many more. Fingers forever crossed. 🤞✨✨

The key is to repair each thing as it fails or before it fails, so you don't get overwhelmed when all the repairs compound on you at once.
I have a 1965 Cadillac DeVille as my daily driver. It has a rebuilt motor, rebuilt transmission. It's a lot more reliable than a modern Cadillac, much easier to work on. I can still get parts for it easily. I don't want to get a new car, worry about $600 a month paying off $40,000+ on a depreciating item. That very same day you drive out of the show room, that $40,000 car is now only worth $27,000. Still, you have to pay off that $40,000 on a car that now worth only $27,000. Oh and don't forget about all of that interest you're paying. So, you're paying more than $40,000 for that now $27,000 car. Probably about $5,000-$7,000 more with interest. The longer it takes you to pay it off, the more interest you're going to pay.
Still driving a 00 saturn and an 03 pontiac, they work just fine. Crucial Parts aren't difficult to get and junkyards are still full of them. Be smart about buying an older car, get something common and reliable and you're set.
I still daily my 1996 Mercedes C280. All it's ever needed is a catalytic converter, oxygen sensors and regular maintenance and I did install some AMG wheels. I love that it has zero connectivity, no distractions, timeless design. Plus it's been paid off for 10 years now 😂

My 91 Colony Park is extremely maintainable and very reliable. It is old enough that it is quite easy to work on. Much better than 21st century cars. I keep the 91 mostly because I can't yet afford a 65.
i have a 2005 accord i got for 500$ it has 300k on it with the V6 everything works heated seats, radio, ac. it has nice leather seats, drives smooth and so comfortable. i have an Infinity coupe as my personal car but i get anxiety when i see debris on the road or i go to the store and see a cart aimlessly placed nearby my spot. i love my Beater! door dings? well shoot ill just give you one back! cart in my spot at the store let me just ram it into oblivion.
my current vehicles I own are 31, 30, 29, 17, 12 and 3 years old. They all run like a clock. I shouldnt have incredible confidence in the 30 year old vehicles but each one of them were incredibly well made in their respective time period that I dont even think about them breaking down as not even once have either of them let me down after a lifetime of loving maintenance.
My family owns 4 older cars a 03 trailblazer,07 saturn ion,03 dodge ram 1500 and a 94 Cadillac deville all run and drive i can still get parts for them at advanced auto

I got a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, had it since November of 2017. I got a 1999 Chevy Tahoe, had that for 5 months and the rear end went out on me. Yet people keep telling me to get a more modern car cuz they more reliable. I refuse to get a car made in this century. I want a car from the 90s and earlier. I don't like the way these modern cars are designed, that's why I won't drive one.

That's because older cars don't have All them sensors especially one sensor that burns out. Then your car won't start. Or. It will start but. Half of the car doesn't work such as the break lights or the head lights. I just got rid of a new car to get an older car.
I dont like screens in my cars, but love fuel injection, so I stick to my 90s early 2000s cars, till I can afford a newer analog supercar. I even got into motorcycling too to save more money. My winter daily is an 2000$ 2004 golf, and my summer daily is a 500$ 1984 honda CM450
I see plenty of late 90s pickups on the road here in Canada. That alone says there are plenty of parts out there, and as that mechanic stated that older vehicles are better built
I see people spending 5 to 1000 dollars a month for vehicles just to daily drive, it makes no sense to me. For a business yeah I can see it, it's an expense but for everyday work and back, it's just a waste of money in my opinion. I buy older vehicles and drive them for years.
2008 Lexus IS250 owner here. I didn’t get rid of it when I got my daily driver a 2018 Toyota Corolla. The Lexus might be older but it sure is rock solid for its age.

Good rule of thumb, when you buy a car have 4x the amount you are paying, IN THE BANK (kinda hard when you buy a 70,000 dollar car on loan ;) dont be that guy) , because if some surprises come along you can cover them (most likely), ofc inspect the car for salvage title ect and rust all those things that cost a fortune and so on. if you have a solid old car and spend a 1000 dollars a year on it, no problem i would say.
4.6l engine! Flipping heck! In the UK 2l petrol engines are big and anything under 40mpg is not really acceptable. Get an old toyota or honda that has been looked after from a dry area.

The average new car payment today is $700/mo. I can sure do a lot of repair work on that budget. I'll keep ticking along with a 29 year old Camry.

I daily drive a 1990 W124 Mercedes, it’s extremely reliable and parts aren’t a problem at all.
those old Benz are probably made in Germany and designed to last a million miles.

I know someone who has a 85 Mercedes Benz W124 with many Kilometers behind its back and the only thing he had to switch were rusty fenders.

That's because older cars don't have All them sensors especially one sensor that burns out. Then your car won't start. Or. It will start but. Half of the car doesn't work such as the break lights or the head lights. I just got rid of a new car to get an older car.
I dont like screens in my cars, but love fuel injection, so I stick to my 90s early 2000s cars, till I can afford a newer analog supercar. I even got into motorcycling too to save more money. My winter daily is an 2000$ 2004 golf, and my summer daily is a 500$ 1984 honda CM450
I see plenty of late 90s pickups on the road here in Canada. That alone says there are plenty of parts out there, and as that mechanic stated that older vehicles are better built
I see people spending 5 to 1000 dollars a month for vehicles just to daily drive, it makes no sense to me. For a business yeah I can see it, it's an expense but for everyday work and back, it's just a waste of money in my opinion. I buy older vehicles and drive them for years.
I own a 95 200sx it's a good car and it has cheap replacements, still I still like my 2015 accord

2008 Lexus IS250 owner here. I didn’t get rid of it when I got my daily driver a 2018 Toyota Corolla. The Lexus might be older but it sure is rock solid for its age.

Yep. I drive a 15 year old Chevy Trailblazer. No major problems whatsoever! Except the fuel mileage... I've never got more the 20 mpg out of it, but o well.

Thats not really surprising...with so many junk and electronics cramped into new cars....not to mention that they are impossible to repair without beeing a computer scientist....you cant change a light bulb in alot of new cars...yeah....il stop here... Im lucky enought to own 2 mercedes 300D's in superb condition and il be driving those til the day i die...maybe my son will keep driving them after im gone....=) Who in their right mind woud subject themselves to those horrendous monthly payments anyways...
dang my car is 27 years old but its holding up with basic maintenance (not a money pit). will still hold on to it for few more years.

Good rule of thumb, when you buy a car have 4x the amount you are paying, IN THE BANK (kinda hard when you buy a 70,000 dollar car on loan ;) dont be that guy) , because if some surprises come along you can cover them (most likely), ofc inspect the car for salvage title ect and rust all those things that cost a fortune and so on. if you have a solid old car and spend a 1000 dollars a year on it, no problem i would say.
4.6l engine! Flipping heck! In the UK 2l petrol engines are big and anything under 40mpg is not really acceptable. Get an old toyota or honda that has been looked after from a dry area.
Not many people can afford a new car like myself so I have a 2003 Lexus and a Mazda that’s a 2006
It’s not necessary affordability but they just last longer. Therefore people can save up longer and buy these expensive arse cars
