Tropica is the best plants on earth, it took a while before the U.S could get your hand on it, this really shows us people that Lisa and John want us to have quality first, Tropica is not the best by being the cheap one...
To John, tank spot number 1 in the video.
First placement, a cube 2 feet front to back, 2 feet wide 3 feet tall, sump underneath. Make the stand bigger with black foam edges. BOOM, problem solved. Put in 75 pounds of carbon rock, build a pryramid against the back wall, like 27 inches tall, they are so light they would not brake the tank even if a baseball sized on fall from the top. Buy 15 demasonii, and 2 years later you will have 200 in there. Absolutely beautfil. And those should have a kelvin with 12000-14000, so maybe the fluval aquasky, that one has wau more blue in it. On the light spectrum to highlight there blue colour. Keep Crushed coral sand 50% and poolfiltersand 50% and you will also have a good KH that acts as a foundation for PH drops. Just a humble but awesome suggestion one african cichlid lover to another! ;-)

    Do your dishes man!! 🤣
Seriously though? Thank you. I'm about to drop a 75 gallon in about 3 hrs. Gave me alot to consider. Didn't know that the exterior wall is the strongest place to put one. I'm changing my mind now. Husband will be putting it somewhere else. 😂
I was gonna place it near a drafty area. I'm in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
it was - 29 C last night. 🥶So husband has some shuffling around to do... again. No regrets. I'm going with an exterior wall in our dining room. We live in that room. It's near water and the light is filtered there and our dining room flows seamlessly into our kitchen.
Thanks you two. Love your wife btw. I'm a plant freak too. Beautiful home you have !

Your house is gorgeous!! After doing a total 'spruce up' of my 100 year old house I put all my fish tank stuff in my office - knowing it would be so relaxing when I was working. But the more I gave it thought, I was glad I didn't actually set it up. An office is a great quiet place for the fish, but the reality is when I'm at my desk, I don't want distractions...like glancing over at them every 2 minutes to watch their shenanigans. :-) So I moved everything (and bought a second tank) to the downstairs living room. I practically live there when I'm not doing projects - so I'm glad you mentioned that is the preferred location. Plus it's far enough from my bedroom so I won't have to hear any gurgling water from the air stone. :-) Great video!

Great video, John. I live in an apartment and I have a 55 gallon, and the bathroom is on the other side of the wall for easy water changes. I'm on the GROUND floor of my complex, but if I were on the 2nd or 3rd floor, absolutely not! Or, I would have a much smaller tank, a 10 or 20 gallon, at most.

Wow, now I can see why you didn't put any aquariums in your main house. In my current situation, I can only have one aquarium, and it's in my bedroom. It's not the most ideal place, but suffice to say I live in a very tiny space so it's the only place. Thankfully, I've really fallen in love with neon and ember tetras, a total of 20 in my 20L aquarium, and it could easily hold a bunch more, so I'm hoping all the action in there results in more!

Nice house tour video disguised as an educational video! I've lived in apartments all my life. in my last place, i had it standing on top of a kitchen island that was visible across the studio, and it was next to the sink so maintenance was a breeze! I miss that. now my tank is still next to the kitchen, but a refrigerator sits between the tank and the sink so maintenance isn't as convenient anymore.

I’m in a 50-year old condo over a basement. The largest I was advised i could go was a 90, MAYBE a 125. Perpendicular to the floor-joists, & though in the center of the home, my 90G sits directly over the steel-beam running the length of the house.
I’d LOVE to go larger, but have no one to help get it IN the house, then DOWN the U-shaped basement-steps to the concrete-floor.

I just got caught up on all these videos, been busy with college and enjoyed spring break. I'm taking Lisa's advice about recording parameters every day for a week, so I can regulate my schedule with water changes. I have 6 aquariums on the go. 5 in the living room and 1 in the kitchen by the entrance. From what I've read, the best place to put an aquarium is at a load bearing wall, perpendicular to floor joists. It makes sense structurally, that is if your house isn't over 100 years old. Mine is 34, which is my age, and the wood is very sturdy and hard. I'm usually in the living room, and I don't have satellite or cable TV, but the fish are perfect enough for me, and I watch internet TV shows and movies. Thanks for the great advice, myself and my local fish circles also watch your channel, very informative and I love the product reviews! You're both awesome! Love the new saltwater tank too, makes me want to get into it in the future.

Good point as I consider putting a tank in my basement. Though it has concrete floors, the floors purposely pitch toward the two floor-drains. How to level a 250 on a floor engineered to drain water to the sewer lines…?

Logistical considerations (which you covered) aside...the number one place to put an aquarium is wherever you spend the most time. Aquariums in rooms you never "hang out" in get neglected. Also...you mentioned "hauling buckets" several times. Who the heck is still hauling buckets? In this day and age if your still hauling buckets i'm not sure your smart enough to even keep fish. I know someone is going to comment with "reasons" to do WC's with buckets but I guarantee they can't give any hurdle that cannot be overcome.

@@justinholmes4333 would it be possible to reinforce the existing joist to support the additional weight? the floorplan doesnt allow much room to put it so it would be sitting on multiple joists. the tank would partially cover a window and have to be about half a foot from the wall because the outlets are set in the floor. if i am being unrealistic please lete know 😅 id really like to have this be an aquarium but if weight will be a major issue i suppose i could settle for paludarium
