You say you want keep people in the hobby, you are a veteran. A beginner should get atlest a 40 Gallon. Bigges sizes are easier. You know that John. ;-)
Regarding why a 40 gallon breeder is referred to as a "breeder" tank was because of the form factor being a low and wide tank ratio. It's got a good ratio of capacity to square footage and being a lower height tank makes it easy to get into. This is highly appreciated in breeding as it gives room to spread out as well as being easier to get to the bottom of the tank for maintenance or getting the young ones out. This is how I've always understood it and I think the 40 breeder was specifically made with being a breeding specific tank that just happens to be an extremely appealing footprint for most aquarists.
I have a ten gallon and it’s a blast. I can easily see myself buying more ten gallon tanks. Maybe eventually I’ll want bigger fish, but so far, most of the fish I’ve seen that get me excited are smaller ones. Bettas, shrimp, endlers, tetras, cories, honey gouramis, pea puffers, barbs, kulhi loaches, pencilfish, killifish, rasboras, ottos… There’s so many cool little fish at my local shop that have really neat behaviors that I don’t see myself getting bored of nano tanks any time soon. The only other size that tempts me is the 20 gallon long because I think shell dwellers would be super cool to have. And I haven’t heard of a fish that does all the landscaping and shell shenanigans that would be happy in a ten gallon.
"Breeder" tanks denote tank dimensions that facilitate access to the fish. This usually means the dimensions favor a short height compared to traditional measurements for that volume. This way, its easier to reach in the tank. They can also be stacked more efficiently. "40 gallon Breeder" just means it's the short (in height) version of a 40 gallon. As for my favorite tank: Like most, I started with a small tank. But I've found over time, I prefer at least 4 feet of territory and planting room. I still favor Nano fish, shrimp and plants; they just get a lot more room. My primary consideration is planting room, not swim room; So: The 75 is my ideal tank size, as I get extra depth without graduating to 1000lbs of water. WaterBox's 72 gallon (48"x20"x20") is the version I'm currently playing with. After that, I'm always drawn to the 180 for larger species which simply need more swim room and territory; 6 feet is a great size
Isn't a 29 a bit small for angelfish? It's basically just a taller 20 long, it's still like making a human live in a 30' x 12' area but with a higher ceiling...
During lockdown I've built myself a 700 gallon tropical indoor pond for my two 4 foot pangasius cats and it's absolutely epic and they love it and look so cool 👍🐋🐋

Ok John I’ve been in this hobby since I was 9 years old and at age ten I had 25 tanks, my grandmother got me into it and my uncle had a mom and pop shop so the fish and knowledge was endless. Now for the topic at hand if we ever meet I will shake your hand because you got me back into Oscars again I recently bought two lemon( never had these before) and two tiger they are going to be alone in my 220 gallon with two fx6’s. I have several large tanks with Africans both mbunas and peacocks (separate of course) then I have jack dempseys, fire mouths and convicts. So the bottom line is thank you to you and Lisa for what you do for people including me I like the way Ben ochart says always be learning because I learn things from you guys all the time. But thank you the most for talking about Oscars so much because I followed your leader after all these years of not having them and although they are tiny in their new home that should last all of a week😂thank you guys keep up the good work!
This is a great video . I started with a 75 thinking I was doing something got put monster fish in it next thing I know I'm thousands in buying 125 220 tanks and filters . Just be ready fish grow lol
Pretty good video on the popular sized aquariums. The one thing I might disagree with is one canister for a 125 gallon. I would say unless it was an extremely low stocked tank I would recommend two or possibly a huge top of the line such as the FX6. I started out with one sunsun on a 125 with Frontosa added a 2nd water clarity is tremendously better. Maintenance time is reduced also.
Love the channel guys! I have a question though, I'm a pretty big noob when it comes to bigger tanks and recently just got a deal on a 65 gallon tank and stand to upgrade from my 36 gallon bowfront. I have noticed that you guys almost NEVER talk about 65 gallon tanks, almost like they dont exist. Is there a reason for that? you have many videos talking about and comparing the 55 gallon to the 75 gallon but it seems hard to find much here on youtube about 65. Also too now that i have my 65 gallon tank that i havnt setup yet Im kind of 2nd guessing myself and considering selling this and buying a 75 gallon instead. I like how the 65s are a little bit taller, but overall I think i prefer the length of the 55s and 75s. ....Any suggestions or thought from anyone? ...Thanks in advance!
One thing I have learned in this hobby.. Don't listen when someone tells you you can keep fish in this certain size tank, GO BIGGER. I have two blood parrots in a 65 gallon and I am already looking at a bigger tank for them. I am thinking 120 gallon is more suitable for these two fools.
My favorite tank sizes are 180 gal, 90 gal and 60 gal. I don’t really do nano tanks as I have always been into cichlids, but I have recently started doing peaceful community tanks and a BN longfin super red breeding project. I just enjoy not having to think so much about fish size problems.
I have a 75, 60, 29, and a 20L....I started with a 5 1/2 a couple years ago and have upgraded ever since. Bigger is much better and my fish would def agree. Thanks for the great content as always.
Yesterday I was busy looking for a new pool seeing as summer is around the corner. I was very suprised to hear that you would not try to upgrade someone to the 75 for an Oscar. The 55 is just to slim for a full grown oscar to turn around in. Same with many of the Central/South American Cichlids. I would say for them a 75 with it's extra depth is a must.
This is literally the first time I have heard him say a 55 Galleon is acceptable for an Oscar. He has, for years said, "75 Galleon Minimum. 55 is possible, but 75 or 90 is really what they need." So the fact he just said Oscar and 55 makes me think something is wrong *laughs* Whose's holding him hostage?
Lisa, the breeder designation is due I believe to the short height allowing a usable 3 rows in an 8 foot room. Thus allowing much higher cultivation density. Similar to the 20 long.

Larger tanks are just easier to maintain... but depends on your budget and space. When I had several sizes ranging from 40 to 250, I kept different type of fish in each... fish size (as adults), compatibility, etc. with some small ones for shrimp.
That’s so very true. All sizes aquariums are good! And each has their pros and cons, though I personally gravitate towards large aquariums. I have both large and small aquariums, all due to my MTS (multiple tank syndrome). Fishkeeping is Addictive. 😂🤣
Yep! Personally I’m more of a nano tank kinda person since I love being able to provide fish as big of a space as I can. (Betta in a 10 gal (definitely upgrading to her own 20L, and eventually going to get some white clouds in a 20L/29 gal too) I know that I would do the exact same with bigger fish but to do that would be a lot more resources. (Plus tiny fish are fun too)
I had a 70-ish and of course 55’s back in the day. The 70 in my case was mostly deeper not taller and it really helped with creating structure for hiding and breading spots, nice big driftwood.
I could have gone with a 20 long or high, but I decided on the high because it gives me a lot of room for tall background plants and it matches with the height of my bed perfectly when I’m sitting down on it. My next project is going to be a little 3-5 gallon with a marimo moss ball bonsai. I’ll probably start with just shrimp but if I end up getting a 5 gallon I’d consider adding a betta as well.
I got a 55 gallon on Craigslist for $25 along with a canister filter for another $25. Best investment I could’ve made. I even built a stand for it and have been consumed since! I upgraded from a 20 gallon long and it was kind of a nightmare for my situation because I wanted goldfish plus extra community fish, and I couldn’t increase the filtration without jacking up the flow. I now have 2 hang on back filters, 1 sponge, and one canister on my 55. the tank has 6 fancy goldfish, 1 commet, 6 platys, 1 red rosy minnow, and 1 pleco. I do weekly maintenance which takes me about 20 minutes to service everything including the canister so honestly its really nice set up and I still have capacity for more!! I like the longer footprint which allows more space for filtration. So for me that’s important.

I have had 29g tanks as my main, biggest and first tank for more than a decade. I LOVE them. I am finally setting up a 75g this week for an Oscar my dream fish. I like the 5.5g for single male bettas and use 10g for quarantine and will be putting bettas in soon.
Yez, large tanks are easier. My 250 gallon tank sits along the dining room wall and is is a big conversation piece for everyone that visits. Tubes go through the wall to the filter in the garage. Water temperature is controlled by a solenoid on hot water from the water heater. This also takes care of water changes. The extra water overflows the filter to the backyard. I keep about 30 fish that are about 4 inches average, and lots of live plants.
Depends on application. Right now I really want about a 20 gallon for shrimp in a stylish rounded corner rimless. To replace a 5. I think my 120 is about right for my dither fish community tank. I'd like a few thousand gallons for koi and arowana and honestly sevrums.
I have a question about how a fish is acting. The fish had ick a few week a gout I treated the tank and they are all good except this 1 fish. It has been eating but swims funny kind of at and out angle been that way for about a week or so tonight it sitting on the bottom looks like it's scratching it stomach.

I had a 10gal when I was younger. Went to 30gal while I had my 5 kids. Now I have a 55gal. I like to have variety. Now I want a 125gal. I have an irredicent shark, 2 plecos, 2 clown loach, 2 twig cats, 2 blue garamis, 2 ghosts, 3 Australian rainbows and 4 Tetras in this 55gal. tank. I now want a bigger tank but not sure because of my house situation.. But I'm really Loving this 55gal. But hopefully I'll be able to get a 125.. love your shows and have learned alot. Thanks
I love my 125g acrylic and yes, it’s way less work than the 10g and 20g I have. I feel each has its purpose. I like to decide what fish I really want, then figure out the tank size needed, rather than the other way around.
A 10 gallon tank with two platys is a lot easier to maintain than a 120 gallon tank with two oscars. You really have to look at the mass of fish to the gallons of water, or better, to the square inches of tank bottom. But even when overstocking, a small tank is still easier because water changes are trivially easy. But, yeah, big tanks are WAY more fun.
I have a 90 gallon with small fish. I like it because I can keep a wide variety AND keep proper sized schools for the schooling fish. With smaller tanks you have to pick one or the other.
I must admit it would be nice if you explained things in both Metric and Imperial measures, doing all the rough calculations makes watching slightly challenging.
I really appreciate you two making these informative videos. I love the 10 things because that usually covers most of the bases. I think with COVID and people being home it has caused more people to get involved with adding nice things (like tanks) to their homes. I think you two are a good team,. I really like when “:the leading lady” smiles on camera, she has a pretty smile and it makes her look so happy, so smile more :-)

I was just wondering if this stocking for a 40 breeder sounds good: 2-3 small fancy goldfish, their not stunted, they are in a 55 gallon now, but their petstore goldfish which I notice don’t really get as large as let’s say a high quality, the biggest is about 5” now and I don’t think she’ll get much bigger at all And 2-3 dojo loaches how does this stocking sound for a 40 breeder? Tysm!
Bought 55 gal over 30 yr ago. Been in storage canister (long story). Want to get it set up. Is rusted on bottom of one corner. Can I still possibly get it cleaned up (will it keep it from holding water?)
Me personally, I would not trust 30yr old silicone. I recommend checking out Petsmart. They have there 55gal kits on sale often for $99-$119. Buying a new tank could save you a lot of time, money and heart ache in the long run. Also seek out small "mom and pop" shops for your aquarium needs. They may cost a tad more for supplies but the information you can learn there is invaluable. Good Luck!
I just set up a 40 gallon breeder yesterday. Hands down my new favorite! It gave me the perfect floorspace for a nice aquascape! Super happy i chose this one over the 55

75 gallon is king, IMO!! That extra depth gives so many options as far as scaping and decor, not to mention the versatility when it comes to the sheer number of species you can keep that will allow you to grow from beginner to intermediate to advanced keeper. Sure, a 125/150 is nice, but that might be a bit much for someone early on in their hobby and/or lacking a clear direction of where they want to go with it.
I mostly agree, but a 90G is a 75G on steroids and has advantages. All equipment (stand, hood, heating, lighting and filtration) is essentially the same. With the same footprint, you get 15 extra gallons of water (20% more!) to make it easier to maintain water parameters. You get the benefit of more water, plus 3 inches of tank height. If you do the math it is actually a full square foot of extra front view area. Note, I do have a 75G but I wish it was 90G.
@@vinceolshove1499 that's a hard choice. I have both, and enjoy the profile of the 75 much better. It's like viewing the true widescreen version of a movie, rather than one adapted to fit the screen...it's also easier to clean, IME. If you really want the extra volume, there are hang-on refugiums, and sump options that are as easy as a hang-on overflow, no-silicone baffling kits, and flexible line. Unless, of course, you need the extra height for something like discus or angelfish.

I was going to mention in my comment the higher profile of a 90 for "tall" fish like discus and angels, but my post was getting long and I left that out. My 75 isn't on a sump; I think you need 150+ for that to become worth the cost and trouble, but agree it's an option starting at 75. The 75/90 range of tanks is kind of the the transition point...I call it the "gateway drug" tank. If you go above that you are no longer in for a penny, you are now in for a pound; and might need to take on a second job too lol. I set my limit at the 75 (90 if I inherit one from a long lost dead cousin I didn't know about). BTW, I am with you about being disappointed when you see at the start of a movie "formatted to fit screen". Always makes me wonder what we are missing. I only mentioned the sump / refugium options as I primarily keep Malawi Cichlids in my tanks, and kinda need a refugium to cut down on all the extra water changes that an overstocked tank needs. Both my 75 and 90 do just fine with sponge corner filters for bio, and HOBs for polishing and chemical filtration.
Anyone know which 75g aquarium brands have best quality? I can only find the basic store brands of aqueon, marineland, and topfin. Some love all these brands and others act like each brand leaks and has issues. Looking for a good 75g that won't brake or leak.

Is it bad if a noob aquarist immediately jump to a 55 gallon after getting a 10 for several months? I think I am doing a bad job. My tank is somewhat bare, underlighted and going to be overpopulated by guppies. What would you do if you were in this situation? I would do enough work to buy enough gravel, a brighter light, a better filter and a area for a red eared slider. Thanks to whoever responds and have a great day or night.

I've read more than once, that the small tanks, 10 gallons and below are NOT starter tanks. They are are expert tanks due to the almost zero buffer you have in maintaining water quality.
What about the rimless tanks? 7.5 gallons, 9 gal, 12 long, 16 gal, and my 20 gallon cube is Awesome! Also acrylic, I've got a 37 gallon, super lightweight, and deep like the 40 breeder.
Right now I'm running a 75g and a couple of 55g, IMO 75g is the perfect size for people who want to move up from small 10-30g aquariums. I'm saving for my dream tank, a 180g dedicated Discus tank, my Discus are sharing space with my Angels in the 75. Skip the 55s, they are too skinny except using as a shrimp tank or dividing into 2 sections for breeding, that's what I use my 55s for, a 75g has almost the same footprint as a 55 except it is deeper front to back.
Hi, I'm new to this channel and this hobby. I have a question. I'm caring 7 guppies and 6 zebra danios in a 20 litter thick Styrofoam open box with a couple of foxtail plants and some natural pebbles. I don't know whether this is a good idea. Pls give some advice. They are doing good so far. We are in an apartment and no way to but anything bigger. We are keeping them in an air conditioned room and we are in Kuwait.

john i had a 55 gal about 15 years ago and bought a house 5 years ago i am a 58 yr young female and want to start one up again i have spent the last 9 days trolling you tube about all the new gadgets for this type of tank now here is my question 1 can i use both the Tidal 55 on one end of my tank and the Hygger Dual sponge power filter on the other end or is that too much.

I bought a Sicce Shark because you told me to. IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!! I've been running it in my 125 for a couple months now (with my hob's and 2 sponge filters) and I am a believer!!!!!!! I'm buying one for my 30 gallon and my 55 gallon and another one for my 125. So much better than a sponge filter!!!!!! I LOVE THESE FILTERS!!!!!!!!! I owe it all to you! Thanks!!!!

One thing I have learned in this hobby.. Don't listen when someone tells you you can keep fish in this certain size tank, GO BIGGER. I have two blood parrots in a 65 gallon and I am already looking at a bigger tank for them. I am thinking 120 gallon is more suitable for these two fools.
My favorite tank sizes are 180 gal, 90 gal and 60 gal. I don’t really do nano tanks as I have always been into cichlids, but I have recently started doing peaceful community tanks and a BN longfin super red breeding project. I just enjoy not having to think so much about fish size problems.
I have a 75, 60, 29, and a 20L....I started with a 5 1/2 a couple years ago and have upgraded ever since. Bigger is much better and my fish would def agree. Thanks for the great content as always.

I was very suprised to hear that you would not try to upgrade someone to the 75 for an Oscar. The 55 is just to slim for a full grown oscar to turn around in. Same with many of the Central/South American Cichlids. I would say for them a 75 with it's extra depth is a must.
This is literally the first time I have heard him say a 55 Galleon is acceptable for an Oscar. He has, for years said, "75 Galleon Minimum. 55 is possible, but 75 or 90 is really what they need."
So the fact he just said Oscar and 55 makes me think something is wrong *laughs* Whose's holding him hostage?
Lisa, the breeder designation is due I believe to the short height allowing a usable 3 rows in an 8 foot room. Thus allowing much higher cultivation density. Similar to the 20 long.

Larger tanks are just easier to maintain... but depends on your budget and space. When I had several sizes ranging from 40 to 250, I kept different type of fish in each... fish size (as adults), compatibility, etc. with some small ones for shrimp.
That’s so very true. All sizes aquariums are good! And each has their pros and cons, though I personally gravitate towards large aquariums. I have both large and small aquariums, all due to my MTS (multiple tank syndrome). Fishkeeping is Addictive. 😂🤣
Yep! Personally I’m more of a nano tank kinda person since I love being able to provide fish as big of a space as I can. (Betta in a 10 gal (definitely upgrading to her own 20L, and eventually going to get some white clouds in a 20L/29 gal too) I know that I would do the exact same with bigger fish but to do that would be a lot more resources. (Plus tiny fish are fun too)

I had a 70-ish and of course 55’s back in the day. The 70 in my case was mostly deeper not taller and it really helped with creating structure for hiding and breading spots, nice big driftwood.
Im sticking to my nano tanks because i get to take them to my university😊 (going to school for marine fisheries/recource management)

I could have gone with a 20 long or high, but I decided on the high because it gives me a lot of room for tall background plants and it matches with the height of my bed perfectly when I’m sitting down on it.
My next project is going to be a little 3-5 gallon with a marimo moss ball bonsai. I’ll probably start with just shrimp but if I end up getting a 5 gallon I’d consider adding a betta as well.

I got a 55 gallon on Craigslist for $25 along with a canister filter for another $25. Best investment I could’ve made. I even built a stand for it and have been consumed since!
I upgraded from a 20 gallon long and it was kind of a nightmare for my situation because I wanted goldfish plus extra community fish, and I couldn’t increase the filtration without jacking up the flow.
I now have 2 hang on back filters, 1 sponge, and one canister on my 55.
the tank has 6 fancy goldfish, 1 commet, 6 platys, 1 red rosy minnow, and 1 pleco.
I do weekly maintenance which takes me about 20 minutes to service everything including the canister so honestly its really nice set up and I still have capacity for more!!
I like the longer footprint which allows more space for filtration. So for me that’s important.
55 gallon for $25 is one heck of a deal! Where I live, 55 gallon tank costs around $280 😬😬

I have had 29g tanks as my main, biggest and first tank for more than a decade. I LOVE them. I am finally setting up a 75g this week for an Oscar my dream fish. I like the 5.5g for single male bettas and use 10g for quarantine and will be putting bettas in soon.
Yez, large tanks are easier. My 250 gallon tank sits along the dining room wall and is is a big conversation piece for everyone that visits. Tubes go through the wall to the filter in the garage. Water temperature is controlled by a solenoid on hot water from the water heater. This also takes care of water changes. The extra water overflows the filter to the backyard. I keep about 30 fish that are about 4 inches average, and lots of live plants.

Depends on application. Right now I really want about a 20 gallon for shrimp in a stylish rounded corner rimless. To replace a 5. I think my 120 is about right for my dither fish community tank. I'd like a few thousand gallons for koi and arowana and honestly sevrums.
I have a question about how a fish is acting. The fish had ick a few week a gout I treated the tank and they are all good except this 1 fish. It has been eating but swims funny kind of at and out angle been that way for about a week or so tonight it sitting on the bottom looks like it's scratching it stomach.

I had a 10gal when I was younger. Went to 30gal while I had my 5 kids. Now I have a 55gal. I like to have variety. Now I want a 125gal. I have an irredicent shark, 2 plecos, 2 clown loach, 2 twig cats, 2 blue garamis, 2 ghosts, 3 Australian rainbows and 4 Tetras in this 55gal. tank. I now want a bigger tank but not sure because of my house situation.. But I'm really Loving this 55gal. But hopefully I'll be able to get a 125.. love your shows and have learned alot. Thanks
I love my 125g acrylic and yes, it’s way less work than the 10g and 20g I have. I feel each has its purpose. I like to decide what fish I really want, then figure out the tank size needed, rather than the other way around.

A 10 gallon tank with two platys is a lot easier to maintain than a 120 gallon tank with two oscars. You really have to look at the mass of fish to the gallons of water, or better, to the square inches of tank bottom. But even when overstocking, a small tank is still easier because water changes are trivially easy. But, yeah, big tanks are WAY more fun.

I have a 90 gallon with small fish. I like it because I can keep a wide variety AND keep proper sized schools for the schooling fish. With smaller tanks you have to pick one or the other.
I love bigger tanks, but I live alone and need tanks I can move on my own. My max is an oddball 38 gal tall tank.

Does a 120 gallon need additional reinforcement of wood floors? The house is not set directly on the concrete. There's a crawl space under the house.

125 is my favourite tank size (that I’ve had) only thing I don’t like about it is I’m not sure if it’s tempered or not and there is no centre bracing

I think with COVID and people being home it has caused more people to get involved with adding nice things (like tanks) to their homes. I think you two are a good team,. It's called a Breeder because most breeders use them for the low profile design. So it's easy to kneel down and do maintenance
Bought 55 gal over 30 yr ago. Been in storage canister (long story). Want to get it set up. Is rusted on bottom of one corner. Can I still possibly get it cleaned up (will it keep it from holding water?)
Me personally, I would not trust 30yr old silicone. I recommend checking out Petsmart. They have there 55gal kits on sale often for $99-$119. Buying a new tank could save you a lot of time, money and heart ache in the long run. Also seek out small "mom and pop" shops for your aquarium needs. They may cost a tad more for supplies but the information you can learn there is invaluable. Good Luck!

I just set up a 40 gallon breeder yesterday. Hands down my new favorite! It gave me the perfect floorspace for a nice aquascape! Super happy i chose this one over the 55

What are your thoughts on setting up a 55 gallon in a 2nd floor loft area. Is that too much weight up there?
75 gallon is king, IMO!! That extra depth gives so many options as far as scaping and decor, not to mention the versatility when it comes to the sheer number of species you can keep that will allow you to grow from beginner to intermediate to advanced keeper. Sure, a 125/150 is nice, but that might be a bit much for someone early on in their hobby and/or lacking a clear direction of where they want to go with it.
I mostly agree, but a 90G is a 75G on steroids and has advantages. All equipment (stand, hood, heating, lighting and filtration) is essentially the same. With the same footprint, you get 15 extra gallons of water (20% more!) to make it easier to maintain water parameters. You get the benefit of more water, plus 3 inches of tank height. If you do the math it is actually a full square foot of extra front view area. Note, I do have a 75G but I wish it was 90G.
@@vinceolshove1499 that's a hard choice. I have both, and enjoy the profile of the 75 much better. It's like viewing the true widescreen version of a movie, rather than one adapted to fit the screen...it's also easier to clean, IME. If you really want the extra volume, there are hang-on refugiums, and sump options that are as easy as a hang-on overflow, no-silicone baffling kits, and flexible line. Unless, of course, you need the extra height for something like discus or angelfish.

I was going to mention in my comment the higher profile of a 90 for "tall" fish like discus and angels, but my post was getting long and I left that out. My 75 isn't on a sump; I think you need 150+ for that to become worth the cost and trouble, but agree it's an option starting at 75. The 75/90 range of tanks is kind of the the transition point...I call it the "gateway drug" tank. If you go above that you are no longer in for a penny, you are now in for a pound; and might need to take on a second job too lol. I set my limit at the 75 (90 if I inherit one from a long lost dead cousin I didn't know about). BTW, I am with you about being disappointed when you see at the start of a movie "formatted to fit screen". Always makes me wonder what we are missing. @@vinceolshove1499 you're totally right about that range being the gateway to bigger tanks, hahaha!! Gonna be looking into a 180 for a Frontosa setup pretty soon. I only mentioned the sump / refugium options as I primarily keep Malawi Cichlids in my tanks, and kinda need a refugium to cut down on all the extra water changes that an overstocked tank needs. Both my 75 and 90 do just fine with sponge corner filters for bio, and HOBs for polishing and chemical filtration.
Anyone know which 75g aquarium brands have best quality? I can only find the basic store brands of aqueon, marineland, and topfin. Some love all these brands and others act like each brand leaks and has issues. Looking for a good 75g that won't brake or leak.

Okay, so, I recently got a 29 gallon tank with some guppies and tetras. My betta was originally in a 5 gallon, but was moved to the 29 gallon. We have a kind of big temple thing as a decoration. Is it bad if a noob aquarist immediately jump to a 55 gallon after getting a 10 for several months? I think I am doing a bad job. My tank is somewhat bare, underlighted and going to be overpopulated by guppies. What would you do if you were in this situation? I would do enough work to buy enough gravel, a brighter light, a better filter and a area for a red eared slider. Thanks to whoever responds and have a great day or night.

I've read more than once, that the small tanks, 10 gallons and below are NOT starter tanks. They are are expert tanks due to the almost zero buffer you have in maintaining water quality.
What about the rimless tanks? 7.5 gallons, 9 gal, 12 long, 16 gal, and my 20 gallon cube is Awesome! Also acrylic, I've got a 37 gallon, super lightweight, and deep like the 40 breeder.
Right now I'm running a 75g and a couple of 55g, IMO 75g is the perfect size for people who want to move up from small 10-30g aquariums.
I'm saving for my dream tank, a 180g dedicated Discus tank, my Discus are sharing space with my Angels in the 75.
Skip the 55s, they are too skinny except using as a shrimp tank or dividing into 2 sections for breeding, that's what I use my 55s for, a 75g has almost the same footprint as a 55 except it is deeper front to back.
Hi, I'm new to this channel and this hobby. I have a question. I'm caring 7 guppies and 6 zebra danios in a 20 litter thick Styrofoam open box with a couple of foxtail plants and some natural pebbles. I don't know whether this is a good idea. Pls give some advice. They are doing good so far. We are in an apartment and no way to but anything bigger. We are keeping them in an air conditioned room and we are in Kuwait.
