Episode 9
Today is a special day, because it happens to be my birthday! My gift to myself is a new experience and adventure. I decide to hike Santa Ana Volcano, at 2,381 meters above sea level, it is El Salvador's highest point.
This has been a bucket-list item of mine ever since I first started researching about El Salvador. The image of the turquoise blue lagoon crater inside the volcano has left a lasting impression on me. But with missed opportunities of getting breakfast, and a lack of sleep, I was solely on adrenaline. I like hiking, so I'm not new to these situations, but it turned out to be a great challenge. Will I be able to make it to the end? Watch and find out!

0:07 Correction! Santa Ana Volcano or Ilamatepeque Volcano isn't the Highest point in El Salvador, it is the Oldest and Highest Volcano in El Salvador instead.
The Highest point in El Salvador is Cerro El Pital Located in Chalatenango 12 km from the town of La Palma at a height of 2,730 m above sea.

Hi! When do you plan on hiking? If you have time, you can prepare for it. If not, you can still hike it, just pace yourself. 💪You can do it! 👏🇸🇻
One of my favorite videos of El Salvador, where I was born! You’re so funny and entertaining. I want to hike the Santa Ana volcano. Im 60 and in ok shape and watching your video made me want to climb it even more. Question: How was the descent? Was it as hard as the climb. Going down is harder on the knees I think.
Hi Maru! Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm glad my video is providing you with more motivation to climb Santa Ana volcano! You can do it! I didn't get a chance to eat a substantial breakfast, so my fuel came from adrenaline and focussing my mind. Wear good hiking shoes with soles that have good traction and grip. Bring enough water. Eat a proper breakfast before the hike. Stay in the moment and enjoy the nature, scenery, and company of others. You got this! I like to hike, so I walk regularly (daily if I can) to stay in shape. That will be good training for you.
Descending is more difficult, because the front of your feet rub against the front of your shoes. My hiking shoes are a half size larger than my regular shoe size. It an be harder on your knees too like you said. A hiking stick/pole might be very beneficial to alleviate the pressure on the knees.

Can you do this alone or do you need a guide? And if you do, how do you get one. We’re looking to go and climb it soon
Hi, thanks for watching! No, you can't do it alone. You need to hire a guide for $3 dollars per person and $6 dollars for the national park ticket. There should be guides outside the entrance to the national park. You can see it in my video, near El Tibet. And I highly recommend getting the pupusas from the restaurant across the street! Have fun!
