- Street Sounds Electro 2 Full Album - 1983
Street Sounds is the 'godfather' of the modern compilation album and its format became the template for the labels that came later. The concept of each album... to literally represent the sound of the moment... full length versions and the highest quality.
The compilation albums and tracks released by Street Sounds have directly influenced and defined hundreds of thousands of people’s lives and have also been substantially responsible for today’s mainstream and street music culture. Street Sounds has been accredited by numerous journalists and DJs, including Paul Gambaccini, Bob Kilbourn and James Hamilton as pioneering Electro, Hip Hop and House in the UK. Numerous publications and other media have documented the importance of Street Sounds to popular culture.
All of the Electro Albums are a Massive Blast from the Past for me, every Album brings back Some Great Memories as a kid growing up in the 80's... Hope you Enjoy! :)

A teen in the 80s and these were the best, couldn't wait for each new Album to come out and then in 86/87 House and Techno hit the UK and that was that for me, but great to go back an listen to these albums from time to time.

What did you listen to before you discovered electro 🤔

😂 WHERE HAS TIME GONE ??? 😂
I'M NEARLY '64' 😮, '43' YEARS AGO WE WERE BREAKIN' POPPIN' & WALKING AROUND THE STREETS, CARRYING A ROLL OF FLOORING VINYL (FOR THAT SMOOTH GLIDE) IN THE PARK 😂.
I'M JUST SO SO PLEASED TO HAVE COME ACROSS THESE CLASSIC "STREET SOUNDS" ELECTRO + CRUCIAL ALBUMS 👍🏻.
&, LIKE YOU QUOTED, ALONG CAME HOUSE & TECHNO &, THAT'S WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW 😃, IN TRANCE & TECHNO LAND 👍🏻.

I too am 54yrs old.. Born in April 68...grew up listening to the back end of rock n roll then growing up with the 70s rock.. And then the early 80s disco... We had so much choice and fantastic times.. This era (electro) was one of the best times for dance music.. Breakdance!
One of my favourite tunes Newcleus.. Jam on it!!
Thank you b.. Best wishes and keep jamin
Ditto 👍
I'm 59 and still breaking. just a bit more slowly now
Which Electro Album is the best?
The era before this was the best..this fed off it, and did it well! It was downhill until rap developed it's own flavours.
This is a true master piece. I played it over and over again. Bring out the lino!
Streetsounds was part of the UK Streetwave stable of labels created by Morgan Khan. A Hong Kong-born Indian who grew up in London, Khan had worked in the UK record industry since the mid 1970′s, working for such names as PRT Distribution (a division of Pye Records) and R&B Records, for whom at the time Imagination were the up and coming stars of the day.
Khan founded the independent Streetwave record label during 1981 to specialise in releasing Electro and Hi-NRG releases. Within a year of creation, Streetwave began the StreetSounds series of albums; compilations created from some of the hottest 12″ imports of the day. These releases made available a selection of the most contemporary dance floor hits within the financial reach of those wanting to hear the freshest sounds. In the early 80′s a 12″ single was priced around £2 and you would pay over £4 for an import 12″. The Streetsounds series offered usually 8 to 12 full-length 12″ mixes for under a fiver. Understandably, the Streetsounds series was met with considerable enthusiasm and, some might say, mighty relief.
This series would run for over 6 years and contain over 50 albums. By far the most coveted of the Streetsounds releases were the Electro series. These albums introduced the UK to the developing hip-hop scene from America - a stroke of genius that brought electro and early hip hop from the underground to the UK high street and, one could argue, helped in the creation of the UK’s hip hop scene.
The Electro series ran for a total of 27 albums (and one box set) from 1982 to 1988. The albums were initially labeled StreetSounds Electro with the title morphing into StreetSounds Hip Hop after release 12 in 1986.
All of the albums were competently mixed by a series of the best remixers of the day - predominately from the UK. A large proportion of the mixes on the early releases were completed by a London-based hip-hop sound system from the early 80s. Headed by “Herbie The Mastermind” (aka Herbie Laidley) the team also featured Kiss FM radio DJ’s Dave VJ and Max LX who were also members of UK electro outfit Hard Rock Soul Movement, responsible for the massive “Double Def Fresh” release.
Man knows his shit! Respect
That is some deep knowledge. Thanks for sharing. I remember being a kid 13-14 and going to petticoat Lane market and finding an amazing record "stall". It was more like an area that played amazing music run by some proper cool blokes with no judgement. A little kid asking them to recommend the best new stuff and they never failed. Wish I knew who they were. I owe them a big cheers
Your an absolute legend for posting that....😊
Spin on bak spin on ya nees and 🥶🥶🥶😨😨🥶
We have a lot to thank Mr. Khan for! I still have em all apart from electro 18!
Cheers
This has to be my favourite of the collection, 3 and 4, darn rethink, I lived and loved them all, great post. I stopped at 13 sold all, but kept the Essential Electro limited adition, will never forget these ground breaking tracks age 54, propa old skool.
totally agree, the cut from on the upside is peerless
This is Hip Hop !!!!
Electro 2 is my favourite wish i could break dance again but no chance need new hips needed the memories! 😊
I used to rinse this album over and over again while sitting in my bedroom playing on my Intellivision console 😆
"On the Upside" ...loved this track. Produced by Chris Barbosa & Mark Liggett..who aldo produced Shannon's "Let The Music Play"
Damnnn in 1983-84 these albums were the SHIT! totally revolutionary
I collected these vinyls up til Electro 22, don’t know if they continued. I still have them all, this was probably my most played due to 2 3 break
One of my fav s out of the electro,s in my break and poppin days😍
i must agree, ans there are so many to choose from..
This is a whole new level. Electro Two is definitely better than Electro One. Im 54 now lol
Yeah I remember Electro 2 being my fav too still re-listening to them all though so that might change 😂😂
I have two three break on vinyl but I've never found cuttin' herbie anywhere... This album was one of my faves :)
Cutting Herbie was created by mastermind for streetsounds compilation it wasn't made by the b boys...👍
Had pretty much all of these even a few double ups . As I used to mix in my youth on decks . Get albums later ones turned more hip hop not as good . Think 2 . 4 . 7 . Are the best .
PREACH !!!!!
One and three are the best 👍🤠
Be sure to keep your loving on the upside 😊
oh yes,the finest when it cuts in to al narfyish, gives me total goosebumps every time
@@garymeacham7353that blend is the very reason I became a DJ. Sublime.

Which Electro Album is your favourite?? This is pretty frickin good. From memory they go to shit later in the series?
6
Yeah they got shit alright
No, it was mixed Electros 1 to 6, very good, 7 ok, 8 really good, 9 better, 10 mediocre, 11 good, 12 ok, 13 better, 14 poor, 15 mediocre, 16 mediocre, 17 mediocre, 18 better, 19 slightly worse than 18, 20-22 poor.
There wete a cluster of folk from school who gave up after 7, then some after 10. If you listened to 11 onwards, you were classed as a 'freak' (like me who bought up to 20)
Who's jumping in the pool !!
2,3 break just cant be played loud enough
Vander
Is ramazelle dopest hiphop jam ever ?
Ok but not as good as Electro 1 Side A 💋😘
I totally agree with you... to me, Electro 1 and 9 were the Best Albums!! 🙂👍
@@mackybmx You're kidding, right?
@@halukkilic3171 Well... I honestly do love all the Electro albums, and I know it does come down to personal preference with everyone... but for me, it's the memories from when these albums came out... when Electro 1 came out BMX was at its height where I lived, and I was just a little kid and pretty new to BMX back then (but loved it!!), Electro 1 was played at BMX demo's and comps in the early 80s... (TV's Kellog's BMX Beat too!) and when Electro 9 came out I was so involved with BMX that I knew that I always wanted to ride (and I still do today at 45)... But, Electro 9 for me has The Best memories!!! BMX was probably at its best for me in 85, 86... When I listen to 9... I remember everything I loved about being a BMX kid in 85!! Just takes me straight back!! 😉
So what about you? what's your favourite?? 🙂
@@mackybmx 4 and 9.
@@mackybmx Rammellzee.
Rubbish! No where as good a 1
As
I don’t think it’s rubbish myself… but you’re right, 1 is better… 1 & 9 are probably my favourite! ☺️
