I've bought lots of refurbished items from ebay. Most are absolutely brand new. Plus ebay refurb units come with full warranty.
You mentioned you can parallel a different brand and different watt rating generators. Seeing this done would make for interesting content. I once owned a Honda EU2000i and an EU1000i. I contacted Honda to ask if I could use them in parallel. They told me the generators had to be identical in order to be used in parallel. I would love to see this disproved.
