    Excellent video.
    I keep a small group of 5 Boraras brigittae that I love. I have mine for about a year and a half and it has taken a long time to get their colours to be vibrant. I also found that moving them to a small tank (40cm) made them much happier than the large 4 foot tank i kept them in originally. Boraras brigittae are very difficult to obtain in Australia.
    I'm very much looking forward to your video on Boraras brigittae and watching the entire series.
    Thanks for the great content

    Looking forward to the rest of this series. Boraras brigittae is such a spectacular fish. I keep about 12 in a 20 gallon long (75 L). I want to add more to the shoal. Maybe I'll add some of these other species for a cool variety.

    Thank you for this informative video. Here in our country no one documented the native species of our rasboras until it went in the wild due to our local government releasing invasive tilapia to their natural habitat. 😢
    This documentation will help alot the newer generation in the future.

    Hallo Chris. I could react on this in German, but i think English is better so everybody understands. In the Netherlands we call B.uropthalmoides the Glasrasbora. For the micros i would want to suggest the name Common Rasbora, as they are mainly colourless. Actually these little fish belong to the Danionidae, so they are more related to even Danio's then even the Rasbora's. In our shop we always had them on tapwater to, GH 9, KH 5, pH 7.4. I think it is important to know if they were wildcaught or farmbred for the acclimatising. Sunda Danio can be more sensitive indeed. To my personal experience most of the nano fish are actually very hardy comparing to much bigger fish. We had a whole wall with only nanofish in the shop.

    I've kept a school of ten Boraras brigittae for years now, and honestly they're some of my favorite fish - I love their personality, and their fire red color. I hope to see the follow up video about them because I'm always trying to find good information about them, but there's so much conflicting info online due to fish shops and even wholesalers selling other Boraras as 'brigittae' even when they're actually mepha or urophthalmoides!

    Great informative video! A question if I may, have you tried keeping the different species together in the same tank, do they school/shawl with their own species or do they mix and accommodate? I was thinking of getting two types of rasbora in the same tank.

    • @chrislukhaup
      @chrislukhaup  9 місяців тому

      they will mix as they are not direct schooling fish...

    I am in love w/ the B. naevus but San Diego seems pretty far behind the big hubs of the US. I have seen them for sale online but nothing locally so far😮‍💨. I can only find B. brigittae locally. I think getting any Bororas young, as juveniles if possible is less stressful too? I haven't had any issues with my Bororas acclimating but I have gotten them all young and bred locally.
    Edit; I agree with you 💯. I've heard so often that they're a shy genus and you never see them. But mine know when it's feeding time and they always all come out of the plants. Otherwise I see them scooting through the plants all day, they don't seem overly shy.

    Thank you so much for talking about these little tiny fish. I am looking forward to getting some and setting up a tank with them and I was hoping to keep some neocaridina shrimp with them. Can they live in similar parameters that the shrimp like as well? I hear they prefer a harder water.

    • @chrislukhaup
      @chrislukhaup  10 місяців тому +1

      these guys go with a low ph and that is great for Caridina and Neos..so soft water is better than hard water.

    Hey Chris, have you been able to breed any of them? It's still on my bucket list, I have a group of like 12 boraras naevus for a couple years now but wasn't able to breed any... I tried several different setups as they are Freileicher but without success. Sadly, for about a year, I haven't seen them mating anymore. Maybe they are too old now or my conditions aren't right (anymore)? :(
