lol - only an aquarist would understand that statement. I choose to move to Los Angeles & buy my home here b/c it’s warm enough that poinsettias can grow outdoors all year long.
These shrimp are beautiful. What a wonderful ecosystem. How blessed you are to be able to explore this area. Thank you for sharing. Thank your friends who are on the front lines of conservation for that area.
Hello everyone 😶🌫️ Mauritius has some exceptional ecosystem that are untouched that i want to preserve & protect for the years and generations to come 💚🌿🐠🦐✨️🇲🇺 Enjoy the video 📹
Hi Chris, Thank you for bringing us along your trip! What a great footages! Hope you are Recovered from your trip! Have a wonderful evening, with love from the Netherlands Stefan
Thanks for sharing.I feel so blessed to have people like your self, to take the time and document these beautiful areas, and do such a good job explaining all of the wildlife and your experiences.
Thank you Raj! Awesome video!! Really enjoyed it! Chris Lukaup offered some advice when I first started Sulawesi shrimp nearly 15 years ago that really helped me out. I love watching his videos and now yours too! Great stuff!
The moss in question is some selaginella-species. Usually terrestrial, sometimes referred to as "moss-fern" (but it is it's own thing, from a botanical perspective). Lots of terrestrial or epiphytic/litophytic species, like Selaginella uncinata, are used and widely available in the terrarium-trade.
thanx for letting me know ;-) i am curious if you recognize the stuff from Madagascar also..i have showed it to several people and nobody knew..incuding Dennerle, Tropica and Christel Kasselmann...
@@chrislukhaup Hey Chris, tolles Video.
Great video! I am revising the taxonomy of Caridina from the Western Indian Ocean Islands and it is amazing to see them in live coloration for the first time! Those land-locked ones are probably C. richtersi and I agree with you that they must be as variable in coloration as in their rostrum morphology.
The "moss" is most likely a Selaginella species, so not a moss but a Lycophyte at about 2:55 Does this grow fully submersed all year round? Or does this part of the creek fall dry some time during the seasons?
amazing footage. I will visit his shop when I go to Mauritius again. A tip we use for mosquitos I don't know if you have Vick Vapo rub where you are from but rubbing that on your exposed parts like neck arms legs etc a mozzie cant stand the smell or taste of your skin and you will perfectly fine. We use that when we go fish at night. Amazing shrimp finds
Excellent video. I don't really care for shrimp or aquascaping, but I love traveling the world and catching as many different fish species as I can. Mauritius has been on my list of places to visit for a few years now. Would love to fish those creeks and catch that sleeper and eel. It's too bad about all those guppys and swordtails. It's a shame so many places around the world have so many non-native species around.
Cant wait for the second part. Like others had mention, the plant is selaginella. I found them where I live as well (south east asia), but it is not near water source.
I hate elodia/ anachris. The hydrocotyle tripartita is one of my favorite plants. Lovely purple gagatas, strange to see them in flow and up on the weedy grasses. Very cool how remote of places the hobby has spread! Thanks Chris, I hope you don't mind, but I shared this video with my social media too, so hopefully some new faces may turn up :)
Love your content always. Just my opinion here. I struggle understanding some of the accents. When the background music is almost as loud as the person speaking especially. Many times I had to rewind and listen to multiple times to understand.
Very nice :) Around the same period you were there, I was actually collecting shrimps for genetic and parasitological analyses, in la Réunion so not so far from there he he
I'm hopefully going back again this year. This time, I'm looking closer at the streams and ponds. Just to look, not take ! Well, apart from taking photos of course!
The blue and yellow shrimp is incredible! It looks so perfectly camouflaged, especially in the first photo. Always a bit sad to see so many invasive species. It's like we've scattered McDonalds french fries all over the world.
great vid! Do you have any idea how I can import plants from mauritius into europe? seems impossible and no information available in regards to exporters
The plants you saw on the side of the creek are called elephant ear plants. The roots are edible. Just pull out the plant and then smash up the roots and they make the food called taro from it. Not a strong flavored food though.
