    Wow, the new shrimp are very exciting! Even if they aren't new, still exciting. Kudos to Havi and Raji. I am located in the US and I frequently look at the Garnelio website to see all of the interesting shrimp species you guys have access to in Germany. Love your videos, as always.

    Thanks, Chris. This was a magical experience and has given me a fantastic insight into the water ways of Mauritius. Really good to know that enthusiasts like Raji are taking an interest in the ecology of their home island, and are taking care to study and conserve it. Loved the tour of his bedroom, his tanks are lovely. We need more like him.

    Thank-you for sharing this with us, Chris. I truly hope that these wild locations will remain viable and clean. It seems that there is a progression that takes place from wild to modern. Even developed countries went through this time of polluting/killing the environment before realizing its value. Thanks to you, we have the opportunity to see what nature was like and hopefully allow nature to heal herself where we humans have caused harm.

    About the mystery plant....looks like Myriophyllum aquaticum on first glance, which is found in Madagascar. Maybe the extreme current gave it that somewhat strange morphology...most Plants tend to grow a lot more compact when exposed to constant wind or current. But I'm not sure at all, if you have detail pictures I can research / ask around a little.

    Watercress, while it is aquatic/semi, doesnt normally do well in aquarium environments. Ive grown it my pond here in the southeast US but the submerged portions usually melt away. I think with enough flow it would thrive, obviously its thriving there!

    Eleocharis vivipara would be troubling, that would be an introduced species. E. dulcis and E. variegata are both natives to Mauritius, I would hope that it's a misidentification. Eleocharis species are a nightmare to identify, you usually need flowers, seeds, scapes, roots/tubers, and even to observe the germination method (whether it occurs on the flower or if it drops the seeds first) as well as a very good dichotomous key.
    Ammannia capitellata is a wonderful native there.
    Nasturtium officianale is a worldwide invasive species (obviously, except for its native range in Europe), it's present in well more than half of the countries in the world. It's sold as a pond plant a fair bit in the US
    Vallisneria spiralis is documented as an introduced (non-native) species in Mauritius. Vallisneria asiatica is no longer an accepted name, it's been synonymized with V. natans. I suspect it's a large V. spiralis, the sizes of V. spiralis can vary a fair bit between varietals, with some being quite large.
    Vallisneria can be differentiated from Sagittaria by the serrations on the edges. Vallisnaeria has small serrations that you can feel very easily, while Sagittaria are smooth. This is a common way of telling V. americana apart from S. kurziana in the US, as they're similarly sized.
    The Madagascan plant looks to be a Hydrostachys species, but it's difficult to tell much from the brief clip. There are 22 described species and they're all present in Madagascar, though some are found in other areas of Southern Africa as well. Ceratophyllum demersum is also present as an invasive species in Madagascar

    I find it a little bit rich from you saying that the gathering on the beach and the monkey are not allowed in europe. Mauritius isn't europe. So get off your high horse and enjoy the local ways without being judgemental. You even distorted the guy's name Raja, calling him Raji. That would be branded as racism in Europe. Just saying.

    • @chrislukhaup
      @chrislukhaup  7 місяців тому +1

      Mauricius isent Europe and if you would have understood what i said than i supported the way Mauricius is doing it. My friend Raji ( this is the Nickname i gave him after i asked him if that is ok..and he said that its fine. I give nicknames to people that i really like. And the guy is a very nice person and respect can be shown in many ways...most of it if you give love and you support them if they need help. But i find it good that you not just give a thumb down like some would do it and not have the courage to mention something...so this speaks for you. But youn are wrong in your judging about how i deal with things or what i think. Just saying.
