Gordon is not just a pacey, direct attacking left side winger. Howe has added to his game; he closes down defenders and he tracks back.

The disrespect gordon gets from some people is mad double figures goals and assists and some people aren't even mentioning him in the convo for left wing when he cooks fullbacks week in week out in prem. Southgate is a donkey for playing foden left wing
Gorden is the only player to turn up and score against all the big 6 this season. Pardew and Simon have the palace tinted glasses on, gorden has double figure assists and goals and absolutely set the u21 tournament on fire. Newcastle were severely depleted for a lot of the season and Gordon stood up and ran the show. These 2 know nothings are anti Newcastle, if Gordon was still at Everton or any other club they would be kissing his back side.
I also think he hasn't received particularly good coaching. We rave about the likes of Palmer and Foden, and rightly so, but I think they massively benefit from higher standards of coaching and Gordon hasn't gotten that until being under Howe. The fact he was considered to not be fit enough speaks volumes about the different standards at clubs, and certainly something which didn't exist at Newcastle at all before Howe.

Gordon has played along side trips for most of the season and has skinned every fullback in the epl he's come up against.
Not slating Eze here he's an amazing player but it would make more sense using players that know each others game.

I don't know why it's even a discussion. Gordon was player of the tournament at U21 euros followed up by a standout premier league season with double figure goals and assists as well as consistency and effort week in week out. He should be startin it's up to others to displace him.
Couldn't agree more. He was also outstanding in the friendly against Bosnia the other week. He was a constant threat / outlet and was linking the play and creating chances. I can't understand why he's not starting
People seem to still be judging him off what they seen at Everton. Today hes like a better more reliable version of craig Bellamy imho with a better attitude, and will silence everyone of those doubters if given the chance.
IV watched a lot prem this year. He was good this year in a poor Newcastle side. Far from standout

Gordon improved massively after going to Newcastle. Same as Palmer after he went to Chelsea.
Gordon and Saka start on the wings - natural wingers with pace and give us shape. HK through the middle with Bellingham as a roaming number 10. What is so difficult for Southgate to understand? You then have Foden, Palmer, Eze to use from the bench and mix it up. Use the squad FFS.
For all his pace, twisting and turning Saka has no end result. He was fortunate with the deflected cross for Bellinghams goal. Bowen replaced him and within two minutes planted a cross right on Kanes head, who was unlucky not to score. Up till then Kane had been redundant.

He should of sorted his first 11 out in the friendlies we had and before hand gareth is trying to fit his best forward players in the 11 and it isnt quite working for him and it’s unbalanced he probably thinks he cant leave the prems best player of the year out but his jobs to take risks and be brave playing it safe hasnt worked for 8 years it wont work now

@@joshgray2067 Totally agree. Foden is a better natural footballer than both Gordon and Bowen but left wing isn't his position. Time and again England managers do this, the team shape is the key not fitting in individuals because they're top players.

If Foden can't play like he plays at Man City because England don't play like Man City do then doesn't it make more sense to put in a player who fits England's system more comfortably, whether that's Eze or Gordon?? Granted they're not as talented as Foden is but if it makes the team better then surely it's for the greater good?
Absolutely, these gents made that very clear to me. Drop Foden now. Gordon would be my choice, he's just been playing so fresh, so direct, so fearless for Newcastle, no doubt he'll do the same in the same role. Love Eze (hope he comes to Spurs) but he's always looked better in the middle/CAM.

England fans want flashy, but the most functional team would have Gordon at LW and Gallagher in the box-to-box role. Rice sitting with Bellingham in the 10. Saka at RW.
This would also allow aggressive subs to maintain pressure in Foden, Palmer, Eze, Mainoo etc..

I think Gabby was absolutely spot on with how England should set up for the next game. Rice and Bellingham along side each other with Foden in front as a 10. Gordon on the left, Saka on the right, Kane up top. Bellingham has the ability to be able to play that position but still have the freedom to move up the park when needed with rice sitting deeper. You have Foden in his perfect position, Bellingham is still on as well and you've got a an attacking option on the left with Gordon. Southgate needs to be a lot more attack minded with his squad because that's where the strengths of the squad lie. Take no mercy, stop these backwards and sidewards passing. Southgate is far too conservative in his tactics. I feel like his players need to up the tempo with the passing and getting the ball in for Kane more frequently. He said it himself, "we need to conserve energy in the first half'. I think this is a negative mindset completely and it's one of the reasons I think England won't win the tournament because of the mindset Southgate imposes on the squad. And the lack of using the right substitutes at the right time.
No, playing too many attacking players will be the reason your plan won't win the tournament. Rice and Jude in midfield would be second best against the top five teams

They've got to take games to the opponents in an attacking way and use what their strengths are. Attack minded players are the best strengths of the England squad.

I thought this before the tornoment, bellingham would be amazing as a box to box, man does it anyway lmao - in the last game the amount of times trent was in the position where foden would have shined is ridiculous. I would take eze over gordon but wouldnt mind if gordan plays tbh the added width would be massive for England and free up space in the middle where we would get the best out of Kane as well.

Foden drifted inside and made us way too narrow. Gordon is quality, keeps the width and will pin back the opposing teams from attacking us. Even palmer can play there. Southgate and edl fans need to realise FODEN in the team doesn’t work. Harsh truths

I find it funny. Before the tournament everyone was saying Fodens going to be amazing even out on the left and now its 'anyone but him'... My 2 pence, I always said he would be rubbish on the left, Trent shouldn't start any position either. Instead Eze and Wharton should start... But i actually believe Gareth will get it right.

Spot on Pardew. Foden plays for a very different team in Man City than England are. He's used to patterns of play England don't do. Foden must be looking for movement and it doesn't happen.
When we have Bellingham in the center (arguably the best player in the world) Saka on the right with 27 goal contributions in 25 games for England and Kane up front (probably the best finisher in the world) why are we shoehorning Foden into the team with a squad as good as the one we have? Foden is a great player but he doesn't fit into this England team.

As we respected Alan's opinion. Let us not forget that by observing closely the england set up, there are few players that were played out of postion. Therefore, if Gareth still insisting on playing Foden on the left, then he must also consider starting a natural left footer on the left back position whom will provide more support and also capable of holding the width to allow foden to drift inside.
Playing a left footed CB instead of Trippier would be even worse

Michel Antonio would have been the answer but because of never being called up He chose Jamaica .

He has what every true English player should have. Grit, fighting spirit. That does not diminish his ability and raw talent. He is being seriously disrespected by folk who may not have watched enough of the Prem this season, or analysed the statistics, to see just how good Gordon is.
Beats a man 9/10, makes world class runs, coupled with an intelligence in understanding space and how to move defenders.
Towards the end of the season his final ball and crossing were of an elite level also. He is a complete player both sides of the ball. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet

Gordon is the answer as he is right footed and Saka is left to create a balanced attack. They both have pace. Foden and Palmer are good alternatives.

Trippier is emergency cover for shaw, get of his back, he is a right back. As soon as shaw is fit he will play everyone knows that.
Southgate has not got a clue. Tripper does not even play LB at Newcastle and 5th choice LB at NUFC.Issue is Southgate has a RB playing LB and should have selected a 2nd specialist LB. Lewis Hall at Newcastle whos been outstanding since coming in or Mitchell at Crystal Palace should have been selected. Both particularly Hall would give better overlap options than Tripper and more pace.

winning international tournaments is about putting out the best TEAM not individuals. If the gameplan is to go 1-0 up in 10-15 minutes and sit back the current system works, but only against teams of lesser quality, the euros final proved it doesn't work against a tactically astute manager with a team with the quality and composure to create and finish chances. England isn't a tactically rich football culture like spain, germany, italy. instead southgate should look at the work deschamps has done with france, he's got the balls to put matiudi on the left wing in a world cup final, the balls to take off dembele at half time in 2022. Drop foden, he causes friction in system put him on the bench and let him come on as a sub, put gordon or bowen on the left and tell them to put 100% on their shift until they get subbed, you can't have 11 luxury players, you need some to get the dirt job done
