This series that Kelly started doing with the filming different topics have been brilliant and is probably the best thing on UA-cam for Fishing. Hi squirrel hope everything is going great for you. 😉☕️
I've been hearing more people talking about drop-shot nymphing out west. I've tried it serveral times with triple rigs...with mixed success. I really like the lead below the bottom fly and keeping all the food above in the feeding lanes. Good stuff!
Really enjoyed this on. Have watched the old original ones on drop shot. Not many seem to talk about this. All th euro nymphing stuff. Need a specific type of rod. There isn’t bigger water than around me, mostly small streams. I like DS more in small stream and pocket water. Also thanks for tying on with clinch knots. Haven’t seen this before and a real time saver.
Interesting observation on the whiteys and their activity compared to trout after a front. Have observed the *exact* same thing with muskies and pike. Post-cold front muskies can really shut down but pike kind of like it. Hybrids respond more like pike than muskies. 2nd day post front is usually the worst.
I run a drop shot rig on my euro system all the time, love fishing that way. I’m Definitely a dry fly guy but if I’m going to nymph at distances closer than 40ft I’ve given up everything but a 10-11ft rod and micro leader
Interesting insight on White fish with weather changes. I was fishing a local SW Montana river two weeks ago with a cold front moving in. Was very windy, and I couldnt keep the whities off my nymph, but not a single trout. I couldnt figure it out, this may have been it!
Yeah man, a euro nymphing guy that has his nymphs with tungsten beads ranging from 1.0 mm to 4.6 and the real heavies, 5.0mm, 5.5mm and up to 6.4 mm beads and using a level mono line and leader with a diameter of 0.007”’s or smaller could get to that proper depth. It sure is huge though to know how to drop shot with your knowledge, thanks a ton !!!!!
Out of curiosity if you’re not fishing for the table but just for the fight what does it matter whether it’s a white fish or a trout? You still get a good fight just wondering
I wish you tell us the size of your rod, please. I only have 1 rod and it's a 5 weight. The shop tells me for fish around here Cranbrook BC 8 weight would be a better choice.
@18:00 if Mr. Kelly had been running a tight line rig he would have felt that eat and had plenty of time to set the hook. even an indicator cant get you that in tune. all the more reason I tight line any time I'm fishing within 40ft.
As a guy who euro nymphs along with the other techniques, that was funny shot at euro nymphers. I will use drop shot, or whatever to make me a better fly fisher. I have even cast dry flies off of my micro leader system to 35’ and enjoyed the takes in that. All techniques help me fish the others better. Reading the nibbles/ bumps along with understanding the drifts better in euro nymphing has increased my success in the others.
@ I watch Corey on the “ Old dominion trout bum” utube channel and imitate his techniques. I have a ways to go in order to fish as well as him but his method on the tuck cast/ casting is really helping me. I learn from all of these excellent fly fishers.
I try to catch my tag ends, but realistically if you pick up one plastic bottle or grocery bag out of the river, that’s equivalent to as much plastic as all the tag ends you’ll clip in a lifetime... but also pick up your tag ends
Phags... You're probably the guys that use 2lb test to fight the fish with no drag.... I find your flies in the fish I land all the time . Dom azz Sierra club non fishing idi*ts
I thought he said euronymphers are using soulless flies and don't know how to fish. I guess separating the bead from the fly gives the fly all the soul. Just like 5-inch-zillion-hook baitcasting lure imitations are the "game changers". By the way, I would not do any of euro or drop shot on that water. It is perfect for downstream single naked nymph swinging with a sink tip or a polyleader.
I don't ever recall Kelly saying euronymphers don't know how to fish. Please link or post where he said that. He did say they were sensitive and you are proving that as fact.
@@rons3507 Sure, he said even more than that: ua-cam.com/video/6aWkLtYbPfc/v-deo.html go to 2:50 mark. Also, I don't like to euronymph except %1-%2 of the time when it is necessary. So, you can make fun of euronymphers all you want, I don't care. Just when people in glass houses throw stones to others, it gets me.
@@rons3507 Okay, then it is now your turn to answer. Please explain to me after saying "Euronymphing is further thing from fly fishing. It is a flat joke to pretend." and adding that "calling competition fly fishing is a crock ..." (just because competitors chose to euronymph.) I absolutely love the drop rig it has put a hell of a lot of fish in the net thanks Kelly for all the awesome videos

Awesome. Been drop shotting for a while but hadn't thought of putting the shot on a separate tag. That will save a ton of time.

Thanks. Learned a lot from this one.
good stuff, thanks for showing the rig. seems fairly straightforward to put together.
Thanks Kelly. Drop shot nymphing is super effective on the Truckee River here in Reno. What rod were you using?

Love the Rico caddis. Works for me everywhere
Kelly. U should stop by that shop off the Highway and pick up a net and wading staff. They might give you a deal if the recognize you. 😂

Most of the slide inn folks don’t fish for the fight. We fish for the eat.
@@TheSlideinnLOL, you guys would need to be eating 10lbs a fish a day if this was true!
@@Meesh169by "eat", he’s talking about the fish eating the fly. Fooling a wild trout is the goal.
Using a High Stick Drifter rod. :)
Outstanding !!
Thank you!
Curious to know what rod he was using in the video

Would micro rings make the system easier
are you using a nypmhing style line?
Sweet!
Yes sir, rockin' the water gremlins!

That section below Quake lake is always interesting to fish.
I was about to say that looks like quake lake area!

Lead weight?
Yes
I was worrying Kelly was going to fall in or lose his rod.
Kelly - you need a wading staff. You're still a strong guy, but getting up there. Sure would help.
