Two comments. One. Don't get ANY bait on the pan ! If the mouse is encouraged to lick the pan, it might get missed. Carefully place peanut butter in bait cup only so the target animal has to step on the pan. Two. Set with bait and kill bar towards and against wall. Mice use their whiskers to feel their way along walls. Give them only one way to get to the bait.
