Discovering Nicks music recently had rejuvenated my love of guitar playing
Right there with you. I’ve given up playing for like 6 years
God, the chemistry between you two is just so dynamic 😂😂😂😂. The guy on the left really looks like he doesn't want to be here at all.
I have the Atomic Green one. If anyone is on the fence, do it. They're absolutely amazing.
I'm seriously concidering the Pink one too, because it's so pretty.
Zave Demonte agreed- I have had a green one for a bit now and I love it. Just got done playing it tonight for a few hours.
I have the Atomic Green NJ as well. I dropped in the USA Custom Shop Pickups in it and it’s just phenomenal. A superbly built guitar with fantastic tuning stability and absolutely killer tone and playability. It is just as good as USA built guitars that look very familiar if you get my drift. Only other mod I did was add a treble bleed. If it was stolen or broke I’d definitely buy another.
@@progdude Sick! I was thinking of doing the same thing, but then I was really surprised by how great the stock PU's sound. I'm really satisfied. How much difference did it do?
Maybe I should get the Pink and throw in the custom PU's to have both...
Zave Demonte The stock pick up seemed to have a heavy amount of compression to them where as the CS ones are much sweeter
Zave Demonte I posted on my channel a short demo of the stock NJ pickups then one with the Custom Shop pickups.

I'm in love how this guitar sounds. I will definitely buy one.
Just Got my NJ in Atomic Green!! Super sweet!! Attention to detail is staggering!! Especially for the price! Beautiful, perfect ebony fretboard!! Also really like the vintage hardwear. I have seen some discrepancies in the roast of the maple necks on these, meaning some are darker or lighter than others.. I personally think mine is spot on! I swear i looked this guitar over, up and down and not a blemish or factory mistake of any kind. It blows my mind really. Sound and playability is amazing! Although action came a whisker high for my liking and tuning was flat. But i believe they do this to avoid any string buzz when first received and tuning flat keeps the neck from bending out of shape during transit. Although these are my own opinions. But swapping to my fav strings and a quick intonation adjustment to my own liking and bam, Rock machine!! Shout out to sweetwater!! Happy customer!! Shout out to Nick Johnston and GAK you guys are amazing!! Great review!
came for the guitar, stayed for the playing - damn, my dude!
I just got one in Atomic Silver, so far I'm loving it.
Do they come with a gig bag?
This is a great guitar for the money, I just got one and would highly recommend it.
Esoterick I have allways been an ibanez player ..but I want a strat ..would you recommend one of these over a mim fender strat ?
Does the light weight kill the sustain? Have you felt that the silver one with more weight has more sustain? Would love to know your opinion before I change my world from humbuckers to single coil.
Does it come with a hardshell case?
Did you get the SSS OR HSS version
Truly awesome guitars I now have the hss atomic frost & the atomic silver, amazing tone & playability
So cool you did the review on clean sound!!! thanks guys.
Love the neck pickup tone ... reminds me of the sound that Scott Henderson gets. And on the 2nd pickup position it sounds like Ronnie Earl's tone. Nice!
These have some significant advantages over Fender Strats IMO because the volume control is positioned further away from the high 'E' string and thus there is more freedom for the picking/strumming hand. Also the one volume and one tone control is preferred by myself over the three Fender controls.
I love the bridge pick up on this. I got one yesterday in green.
r u prefer fender strat mexico or this guitar?
There is just something about a pink strat (shape)... glad they didn't go with black pickup covers
I have two. The atomic green SSS one and the orange HSS one.
The tuners LOOK amazing but they aren't great.
The orange ones single coils sound so different than the green ones. I dunno why, but I'll leave the orange ones alone.
The mods I'd recommend are pots, put full size CTS pots in it, Graphtech string tree/s and saddles, maybe a US Fender 5 way switch, and if your pickups sound thin and tinny like my green one, a set of Texas Specials will cure that. 🙂
Agree it’s a great value. I bought one yesterday. I also looked at 2 Fender Am Pro IIs. The schecter sounded better and played better than both of them. So got the schecter and a Friedman 1x12 cabinet and a ehx pitch fork for the price of one of those fenders. BTW, I didn’t play the Fender Player series because they all had pronounced sharp fret ends.
Mine is a slightly darker pink and I LOVE IT
I'm planning on buying the SSS model, but have a doubt. When two single coils are active together, what is the wiring? Is is in series(wit Reverse Wiring Reverse Polarity) and does it cancel the single coil hum?
Just ordered mine in Atomic Coral
Joss nailed that solo 🔥👏👏
Amazing guitar
I have a Silver one and it's Fender killer.
14 degree radius...tilted heal...locking tuners...better placement of input Jack.
It's sort of a super strat with single coils.
I would love to see this with all black hardware and pickups. That would look sexy as hell. Currently torn between buying one of these and just getting a higher level Squier and modding it.
nice review. Couldn't agree more about your take on Schecter...the quality these guys manage to churn out while keeping the cost so reasonable is just brilliant. I play a lefty KM mk2 which is amazing and am awaiting my lefty Atomic green one of these wee beasties.....can't bloody wait.
Did you have to order the lefty direct from Schecter? I’m in UK and no one stocks these.
@@simonrourke1978 its not easy eh mate! I can special order from my local guitar shop which is the Schecter dealer. They do about 3 orders a year. However, I know that "Drumcity guitarland" is getting them in late November. Have you checked them out? Honestly...they have the best selection of lefty Schecters. They'll see you right. Cheers.
tthanks Schecter for making a Suhr Antique for us poor people
i got atomic green one, truly perfect guitar
I find these new schecters awesome

I want the green but the coral sounds soooooooooo gooooddddddddd!
Just picked mine up this week (SSS Atomic Green). What a great instrument.. I had to order the HSS in Atomic Snow after getting the SSS model . . Thanks Don over at Studio Gears in Temecula.. Hit him up he's a dealer for schecter with lots of stock at his shop ( online store) Studio Gears out on Temecula Can.. Mention 6strung or Man Goo Goo to get a discount.. Call in grab yourself one of these fine instruments. You won't regret it.
Very nice sounding guitar!
Hi, love the atomic green.
Does anyone already tried to compare it with a Fender Player serie plus top?
Both seem to be great guitar but the nick johnson isn't available in my local shops.
C Mr FAIT
Fender is a big name but lastly they've been using it to sell shitty guitars, schecter needs to *proove* themselves for budget guitars, so for the price it's really well made.
I actually have both and I can say both have their uses. The Fender Player Series Plus Top Strat is definitely brighter and honestly feels like any normal Fender strat (nothing too special aside from the veneer top). The Schecter, on the other hand, feels totally different from the satin finish-feeling neck, darker sounding pickups, and flatter fretboard radius (plus it looks amazing in the Atomic pink haha). Either way, you can't go wrong. Both are spectacular guitars!
Nice playing Jon👍👍 at the end you sound Gilmour-ish❤️
These were reviewed at Namm 19, by the very man, one of the better Strat alike guitars imo...
Great vid banging tune dudes great sounding guitar
"All the features of a modern guitar player"
Also Schechter: *neck joint*
Tullio Puzo Everyone wants some super high access neck joint and almost no one plays that high. It cracks me up.
@@MK4vDubbin the angle on the goddamn joint is what cracks me and my hand up mate. You can feel that at the 15-17th fret, it's not that high
Josh, do you play with any groups or solo. Love you style.
What is the chord progression in the intro?
Great review, one thing though, most Schecters don't come from Indonesia, the more expensive Diamond Series are made in South Korea, the cheaper models are Indonesia and China, then ofc custom shop is Cali
Very good discussion and I credible playing
I want to change my guitar, but don’t know why still love my fender japan stratocaster 93. Maybe tomorrow buy this one. How about comparing this with japan stratocaster?
Is the pickup ceramic or alnico
now to decide on pink or green!!! already have a pink Charvel, maybe the green will be the winner!
For a side-note, one thing is often curiously missing when we talk about flat radius fretboards, they can be a real PITA fretting big chords, so not absolutely easier to play. Also, in my experience, strats don't sound great with very low action, in general.
Do people really have trouble fretting on flat fretboards? I've personally been playing on a 16" all my life, no issues there.
Hell, even classical guitars, which are pretty much made for huge, difficult chords are often devoid of any radius at all.
@@wea69420 Maybe I should have said barre chords, yes I realize get tired very fast when fretting those on a flat neck (but I think it is more general than that actually). There may be other factors like the neck width etc. But I didn't invent this idea, it is common lore. If you are playing heavier music, only power-chords and lead, I guess this wouldn't bother you.
@@emreemre369 I use barre chords rather often, so I dunno. I genuinely find it a bit odd.
@@MarcoRaaphorst I agree... although definitely not as good as the USA model. The issue was big radius, low action, and how it affects tone. I have no idea how these guitars are set up.
@@wea69420 Repetative fretting over a period of time causes the issue, in my case at least.
Wanted to chime in here and make a small correction that Joss said about “most, if not all of Schecter’s instruments come out of Indonesia”. This isn’t exactly 100% true. It’s true that Schecter does have a large portion of instruments that are manufactured in Indonesia, however, they do have higher spec’d instruments that are manufactured in South Korea. Examples of Schecter’s South Korean instruments would be the Banshee Elite, SLS Elite, Apocalypse etc... They’re all of slightly higher spec than that of Schecter’s Indonesian made instruments.
TL:DR - Joss claimed “most of not all of Schecter’s instruments are Indonesian except for the custom shop. This isn’t true as they have guitars made in South Korea.
Thanks David
I own 2 Korean schecter, solo ii custom & Jeff Loomis signature, they are unbelievable
I own the schecter synyster gates custom s. It came from South Korea and is one of my favorite guitars I’ve owned
it's looks better than john mayer's model...
Shut your dirty mouth!
Blasphemy
amen brutha
@Gabriel Fernandes That's just not a valid opinion to have. Period. Mayer is god. Bow down to thy master.
Much better
Please bring back the rosewood fretboard or the option to have it
Why? The ebony is far superior.
@@bradleyhenady2032 Superior in which sense?
Josh, what a nice surprise, you must be practicing playing with fewer notes per minute!
Well he was just covering a NJ song so
@@obnoxious2909 Oh ok :)
@@emreemre369 yeah, its called "Remarkably Human". Its a truly beautiful piece.
NICE!!!
I want 🥰
Awesome thank you ! I am SOLD
Wait, so Josh is saying that people only give John Mayer crap for his S-type at PRS because he's not a good player? That's an interesting take. Nick's a great player, but I think John is a great player, too, and he's improved over the years.
Either way, great playing. Great guitars. Good to see Josh's playing again.
PatronHall LOL. John Mayer is one of the best guitarists alive. He makes every note and his phrasing is immediately identifiable. It’s one thing to have technical ability but it’s a whole other story to find your own voice as a guitarist. Nick is also a phenomenal, monster player. They just have different approaches.
@@MK4vDubbin I'm confused...you wrote "LOL" but you said the same thing I said; they're both great players. Josh is the one that said people are ok with Nick's strat "because he's a great player" which logically implies that in Josh's view that John isn't a great player. I think that's a weird take.
People give John Mayer and PRS shit for the Silver Strat eh.. Sky,because they were talking so much marketing-BS about doing ''2 years of extensive development'' and all that crap, when in reality they just took a Strat, bolted a PRS neck on it,with a headstock that doesn't look good on this type on guitar and did a deeper cutaway.
And they were trying to sell this overpriced Strat copy as some form of ''innovative'' guitar.
Fuck them both!
Other companies like Suhr,Tom Anderson, Kiesel or here Schecter make Strat copies but they don't bullshit you, they say right away: ''it's our version of a Strat with some different/modern specs''. Schecter actually started out as a custom shop that made Strats/Superstrats for guys like Mark Knopfler or Steve Lukather.
Oh and John Mayer is one of the most overrated players out there.College girls and boomer blues daddies love the guy, because of his looks and because he recycles the same old tired pentatonic blues scales.
greekfreak1980 I’m sorry you think John Mayer recycles the same pentatonic blues scales. That’s simply not a true statement regardless of whether you like his playing or not. There’s a lot more nuance to playing than shredding a million notes a second. There’s also a lot more to the Silver Sky than you seem to believe. There are numerous details discussing the the differences and reasons for them in comparison to a traditional strat but it seems like you’ve already made up your mind about it.
@@MK4vDubbin Literally everything he said was incorrect. At that point, just back away. There's no logic here.
I'm planning on buying the SSS model, but have a doubt. When two single coils are active together, what is the wiring? Is is in series(wit Reverse Wiring Reverse Polarity) and does it cancel the single coil hum?
should i get hss or sss?
This or a dk24 I get they are quite different but I'm looking for something that's a bit like a strat but different?
DK24 will not sound like a Strat since the neck pickup being pushed away from the “sweet spot” due to it having 24 frets. Try checking out the Charvel DK22. Based on demos I’ve seen so far, it comes pretty close to achieving the quacky in-between sounds and nails the Strat neck sound. Hope that helps you out.
is there any big differences between old one (silver) and new ones? i find an old one for 200$ cheap from new ones. Is there any 200$ difference i mean pickups or quality?
I want the silver with circles on fret board. Wth how did they not put those there.
The silver is an older model
Do you have these available in left handed? I asked Nick on his FB and he said they definitely made a left handed model.
It is coming in March 2020. I just found the listing on Andertons' website.
Charvel dk24 or this axe?
Hi,
question : what is the routing under the pickguard ?
Donno but they will sell them with a humbucker in the bridge as well
I read in another demo that under the pickguard its all just routed for S/S/S. If you wanted to put a bucker in there, you'd need to route it yourself to accommodate it.
Why £170 more expensive for left-handed? :(
what guitarrist and that ?
I see you do not care for the Strat bridge PU next year my Peerless S-4G comes out with a Tele in the bridge. A lot more useful. Besides you get the best of both Fender guitars a Tele and a Strat in one guitar.
Wicked
Is it cellulose paint?
Accessible Prog , how many generas and sub generas are there in music? Let's start with rock and roll, a google sounds about right! Nice playing too, those are real nice guitars in looks and sound.
Can u guys get Ron Thall in for a jam?
I have one as well. My whammy bar doesn't stat firm tho
I wish they made a hard tail version
This or Fender Player? Please help. Thank you!
The Schecter. I one both. I libe the player too...but it will fret out on whole note bends if it's not set up perfect.
Its worth pointing out that the more higher end Schecter Diamond Series come out of South Korea and its really only the more affordable ones that are made in Indonesia. My Korean made Apocalypse C-1 is almost on par with my Mayones’s and 2k+ Ibanez Prestiges.
Wish they made an HSS in pink /=
Same! I was wondering if a strat pickguard would fit for a replacement?
ugh sameee
Not every non-custom shops schecters come from Indonesia. In fact, most of the mid-high end ones come from South Korea
3:42 🤨
Ben Gosling hehehe
I want a shred guitar but don't like slim necks. Any ideas?
Get better
subscribed
so do I get one of these or do I get a Sterling Cutlass SSS?
Sterling is a second grade-brand. I would go for Schecter!
Marcelino Christian this is second grade too, schecter diamond series is third grade from schecter usa and japan, both of guitar is goodn
Do you ship internationally?
Yep :)
Fab review
Isnt it Indonesia --> Korea --> USA? Hopefully it was just a mistake by Joss, the korean factory was / is awesome. Great review tho!
no...world instrument co, is based in Sth Korea, whereas these come out of a totally different factory in Indo. Both are excellent in my opinion.
How close to a Fender do they sound?
If you want Fender go with G&L. They do Fender better than Fender, because they’re literally Leo Fenders Designs after he left fender
@@asmallfarmhomestead3657 i have a 5 string g&l bass. Its really good, I may just do that. Thanks
its best for deal guitar ...;)
made in Indonesia ?
Yes!
His signature custom shop uses Seymour Duncan antiquity Texas hot pickups
Not anymore it doesn’t. That was for the USA Atomic Silver model. His USA model has Nick’s signature Schecter Atomic pickups.
Affordable lol? There 800$ and up
Wrong. A lot of Schecter guitars are made in South Korea.
£750 is quite expensive for an Indonesian made guitar.
To get an equivalent Strat... $2000
@Andrei James I've had Gibsons and Fenders all off my life. Some of them have been excellent guitars. Some of them is have been crap. Most have been somewhere in between. Far less expensive guitars from other manufacters have essentially caught up. My vintage 1968 Gibson LP Custom it is just a guitar. My Gibson 57 Goldtop Reissue isn't 15 times better than a $600 Schecter.
I’m sad about the neck radius. Us mayer fans would find it hard to wrap the thumb around on bass notes
Mayer sux balls
frank hall your parents really named you frank 😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂
@@shreddievanhalen1 he's straight outta 17 magazine you must feel right at home being a little girl.
Travis Hunter how do you like the NJ strat?
Great demo....but you talk funny.
Bah! Neck radius doesn't effect string hight!
You can't get a lower strings-height if the radius is 7.25".
I want one so bad but the 14inch radius and the fact that they all seem to weigh 8lbs or more.too heavy for a strat style guitar.
Guy on the left - no charisma or excitement
Guy on the right - complete opposite
Who is Nick Johnston? I've never heard of him.
He’s pretty good
pink guitar.....what an idea man..
Who puts an ebony board on a strat? Lunacy.
Fender have done recently. Elite Strats had an Ebony board option ( I have one in left-handed orientation). It sounds and plays great.
@@craigthomson3621 it was a rhetorical question.
not rly a fan the specs arent to crazy for the price and its build in indonesia wich i can tell u since my family comes from there aint the greatest place to get instruments checked mainly quality controll and supper cheap labour so their making 50% more profit of everything compared to their korean made guitars
Yeah that’s why everyone raves about the superior quality of these….play one before making an assumption of the quality.
