Thanks -good info but your video stopped just as you were getting to the source of your fuel gauge issue. What was the fault ? Thanks for your help.

Hi, and thanks for the video. I have an X585 that I am having a dickens of a time with the fuel gauge. A few years ago the tractor had the typical issues with the gauge cluster.
Resoldering solved it. Recently the fuel gauge stuck on full. I have been testing but am getting nowhere.
Would you mind going into some detail on testing the gauge? I think I can test the sender ok.
I just can't determine if the gauge is bad or it is connections again. Thank you.

I have an X485, the fuel gage and temp gage do not work. Replaced the temperature sensor, no go. This might help

I have a similar problem with my 2002 X595 where the temp gauge will go up as the tractor warms up and and the needle with peg all the way and then when you shut the PTO off, it will go right back down to normal. I have changed the temp sensor, PTO switch and the thermostat and it did fix the problem. The fuel gauge has never worked right almost from day one with the needle acting crazy. I believe I have broken solder joints. I would like to replace the temp sensor with either a mechanical gauge or digital gauge but I think I will have a very hard time finding the right (metric??) threads that I will need for the sensor to screw into the housing. Any thoughts or suggests?
    Thanks,
    Curt.

From your experience is the X475 a good tractor? Any major issues with this unit?

Yes, I would buy a X475 if the price was right, but I am partial to diesels. I owned a X495 which has the same hydro. The X475 has a carburetor rather than a X485 that is fuel injected.FI can be expensive if you have problems.

I am very familiar with the X 595 heating problem but I found the problem. When you pull the side panels to clean the trash screen and blew out the radiator I thought but it was still overheating so I repeated the process but got a high powered light and looked between the oil cooler radiator and regular radiator and thought I was seeing trash. I unbolted the two top dolts holding the two radiators assembly together and I found the problem when I separated the radiators. There was grass and other trash packed between the radiators. I used my long nozzles air blower because you can’t get your hand between the radiators but there was a pile of trash that would fill a five gallon bucket. I reassembled everything and I had a new John Deere that the heat gauge that badly moved and the power was back up on my engine with no overheating shutdowns. This is a very poor design on the X 595 diesel because this Lawn And Garden Tractor can outperform any small compact tractor.

I have owned John Deere 322, 332, 345, X495, X595 and X740 tractors. They all have a problem with overheating. The best solution is to keep the intake and radiator screens clean.

My dad has a x475 and he says that when he turns the powerr take off on and the the temperature guage and gas guage goes crazy and shows that it running hot but it's really not and he can't figure it out. Do you have an answer?

The problem usually is a bad solder joint on the circuit board pin 20. I have been able to repair four with this problem. I have also had two that I could not repair because of water damage. I would finally replace the temperature gauge with an external DIGITAL one. No guessing about the temperature. What does red really mean?

I meant to say that after replacing the temp sensor, PTO switch and thermostat, it DID NOT fix the problem. All my screens are cleaned several times a day and the radiator is blown at least once a week in not more.
