- June 14, 2016 - Since September 1956, marching and musical units from Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., have been paying tribute to those whose "Uncommon valor was a common virtue" by presenting Sunset Parades in the shadow of the 32-foot high figures of the United States Marine Corps War Memorial.

I was stationed at 8th and I for 2 years before I got transferred to Vietnam in 1968. Our barracks was in the Washington Navy Yard. Building #58.
God bless you and thank you for your service
I'm from Uruguay. You must be all proud of your heroes. Never forget them !
Thanks for posting, my father used to play with The Commandant’s Own and this brought back so many childhood memories going to the memorial during the summers in the 80s. Great video.
My husband was stationed at 8th & I the summer of 1971, and did the parade here and there. Last duty was a Camp David.
Out of all similar posts here, this is probably the best I've seen. Thank you for posting it and Semper-Fi

Dedicated in 1954, the Marine Corps War Memorial (or the Iwo Jima Memorial, as it’s often unofficially referred to) honors every Marine who has served since the founding of the Marines in 1775. The design of the memorial was inspired by Joe Rosenthal’s Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Engraved around the base of the memorial are the names of every principal Marine Corps engagement since its founding. The motto of the Marine Corps - Semper Fidelis (Latin for “always faithful”) - is also engraved in the center of the memorial’s circular base. The flag at the the top of the memorial flies at full or half staff 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
This makes Americans feel patriotic. Wonderful that some good traditions still survive in this world that wants to forget U.S. history.
Sunset Parade at Marine Corps Memorial
Every summer the Marine Corps hosts a weekly Sunset Parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial (also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial). The tradition began in 1956, two years after the dedication of the memorial, and has continued ever since.
There is no cost to attend the event, and guests need not make a reservation. As the Sunset Parade is hosted at the Iwo Jima Memorial, there is no seating available. However, guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets as there is ample space in the grass.
When: Every Tuesday from 7-8pm beginning at the end of May and concluding in mid August. For a full look at the schedule, visit their website.
God Bless The USA.

No discipline.
2:52: so they the only drum and bugle corps currently serving in the Armed forces? So the army’s drum and bugle corps doesn’t count, huh?
The Army doesn't have a drum and bugle corps, they have the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Fifes are not bugles.
If the commentator could just keep his mouth shut, that would be great
