True and especially back in the days when an FA Cup semi was a make or break game. Win and you were in the Cup Final. Back then that meant everything to a club. The FA Cup is gone and has been for years but back in 1980 it was still immense.
Yeah, just getting to Wembley meant everything in those days. The FA Cup Final was the only televised Live domestic game, so it was a massive thing. Nowadays, with all the EPL and Championship teams fielding mostly reserve sides, and the semis being played at Wembley it is viewed as a nuisance to managers whose goal is all about league position. Wouldn't it be funny if SPURS were drawn at home in every round of the FA CUP this season?? Can you imagine the players on Cup Final day arriving on the team bus and walking out to inspect the pitch in their suits.... OH THE MAGIC OF THE FA CUP AND GETTING TO WEMBLEY.
I've never understood why only Kidd was sent off, Stewart practically tore his calf off to kick start this. I was at the game and throughout they were taking chunks out of Kidd. The replay, what can you say about the Red referee that was Clive Thomas, that hasn't been said already.
Never a penalty and never a sending off!
There was always something very special about the Villa Park semi-finals.
I agree with you, we were robbed in the replay I think it was Clive Thomas was the ref. He hated Us EFC, that is.
nicki Spurgeon Yeah I remember Clive alright! It always seemed to me like he wanted to be the centre of attention! Not a great referee at all!
Your right as up until this and a Liverpool semi final, he made his name for himself.

How silky was Alan Devonshire??
I was right behind the goal at the West Ham end and we should have won that day. We made sure in the replay.
Have you ever seen a refs decision like the penalty?
