No joke. I have been a lover of the full length Rifle ever since Black Hawk Down. Not to mention the effects I saw these have down range. Even up close, stuff either explodes or goes airborne. Love it!
55 gr. is the wrong ammo to use in this rifle... 62 grain is proper for a 1:7 twist... 55 grain is for 1:9 twist... 55 grain is unstable in a 1:7 barrel
@@Rebel42MDx You would have to check if your 1/7 barrel will stabilize it. Had a few 20" 1/7 barrels and I used 55gr and 62gr ammo most of the time. Never had any accuracy problems. In fact MEN 56gr 5.56 was immensely accurate for my rifle despite being plain FMJ. You just have to experiment with your own setup.

Whenever I see someone complaining about how they can't start their retro AR build because they can't find a fixed carry-handle upper, I always encourage them to pursue an A4 build instead. A perfect balance between old and new with not too many specialty parts to track down. The M16A4 is such an underrated variant which occupies an odd-spot in small arms development. This video helped me come to terms with my 21” BCM AR-15. (16 inches with a 5 inch suppressor) If marines in Fallujah were doing CQB with that length, there’s no need for me to buy another upper when my 16” does just fine. Thank you for this
I was issued an a4 with knights rail in basic and in my unit. The weight and length gets old despite all the ballistic advantages in my opinion. Alot of people who really REALLY love it never had to carry it everywhere they went for years.
Awesome video and insights! I’m more of an AK guy, but I also have a M4 style carbine with a red dot. I shoot that one quite a bit and have really come to appreciate the AR platform. I’m thinking my next firearm purchase may be a Colt AR15A4 and eventually turning that into a M16A4 clone like yours.

Some USMC units in Iraq were investigated for war crimes after large amounts of EKIA were found with head shots. It wasn't war crimes, it was just Marine marksmanship armed with 20" rifles and ACOGs.
Enjoyed the video! I built my A4 with just a Del-ton upper and Anderson lower, with milsurp furniture. Maybe I just got lucky, but accuracy is awesome…have gotten a 6” group at 400 with irons. I’m running a 1:9 barrel, which I happen to like. It’s heavier than my A1 clone, but like you said, it’s sometimes an advantage.
Respect From a fellow M16A4 enjoyer The M16 is what the AR15 was supposed to be, and any other design comes with a lot of compromises. Engineseers of the Mechanicus have managed to make really good carbines that fixed most of the issues, but they will never shoot as smooth as a rifle length gas and rifle buffer (which can be even further improved) and with the full velocity required to make basic fmj ammo do the damage it's supposed to. I have plenty of carbines, but my M16 builds are what I always grab. My carbines are purpose built for cramped quarters use, keeping the compromises in mind. As for the con of its bulk - I am a tall guy with broad shoulders. My body bumps into my environment more than my M16 does, because I know how to manage it.
Great review!! I have the exact same build down to the stream light. One piece I can't recommend enough is the KRAM ACOG spacer!!! It sets your ACOG back about an inch and is elevated enough to clear your rear sight. I think these are now sold by battle werx. I have a couple videos on my channel showing this rifle and an older video that covers that spacer in detail.
I prefer to run a Surora ACSS reticle in TA31 on an ADM 2.05” cantilever mount. The additional distance the optic is set back helps for a better point of balance, help mitigate the dog shite eye relief. My only gripe is that having a bad neck & mount Higher than Giraffe Pussy, shooting Prone is/was something that particular mount left a lot to be desired.
Great video, thank you! So...basically no "cons" except the things that are the nature of the rifle. 🤷♂ If you buy/build one of these, expect that stuff. I'm working on an M16A4 build now. First firearm I shot. I remember thinking "That's it?" After firing my first bullet ever. For some reason they issued us M16A4s made by FN in Army basic. Really strange, never saw an M16A4 again in the Army afterwards.
My first rifle was a regular 14.5” chambered in 5.56 with a basic flash hider. Obviously recoil wasn’t much at all, but when I finally made this M16A4 clone, I was still surprised at how much less kick there was! Such a fine rifle to shoot.
Oh man yeah. I’ve been shooting with Picatinny rails since I bought my first rifle. I brought my 14.5” M4A1 Block 2 clone to a local meetup and had shot it for like 2-3 hours. Then I got a chance to hold an 11.5” pistol with an MLOK rail. It was a night and day difference lol
"It's too heavy. It's too long." Piss moan. Piss moan. I carried the M-16A2 or A4 for most of a 23 year Marine Corps career in the infantry. Look, we humped the M16 for miles and cleared more buildings and compounds than I care to remember, and there wasn't anything that we couldn't do with a M-16A4 that we did when we finally got M-4's. (The Marine Corps is the last to get almost everything.) Which I wasn't a fan of when we were issued the M-4. More than anything we lost accuracy at the longer ranges we found ourselves fighting in while in the burn barrel we know as Afghanistan. Sometimes these fights were from one mountain ridge to the ridge on the mountain 600m+ or further. Standoff range and ballistic effectiveness at range suffered with the M-4A1. That 5 1/2" inches of barrel loss meant something. Let's be honest though. A fully kitted out M-4A1 doesn't really weigh that much less than a kitted out M-16A4. The balance is just different more than anything. It's a trade off I'm willing to make though. Have a great 2024 and God bless.

I gotta be honest - I am not sure lol. That’s an area of the carry handle I wanna explore more. My elevation drum is set to 6/3 and I believe I am zeroed at 50yds, but it’s been too long for me to remember. Gotta get back at it.
I usually put a few drops of CLP after each range session and then would clean it every 500 rounds. It definitely isn’t necessary to clean it that frequently but I wanted to anyway!
The a4 with the acog is seriously a perfect setup. Screaming high velocity, super soft shooting, and very well balanced.
The Acog is still a top tier optic

I gotta be honest - I am not sure lol. That’s an area of the carry handle I wanna explore more. My elevation drum is set to 6/3 and I believe I am zeroed at 50yds, but it’s been too long for me to remember. Gotta get back at it.
If you do a 25 meter zero the normal way, then dial backwards 8 clicks behind the 3/6 its basically a 50/200 zero for the peep sight
He's right, manufacturers who blast their logos all over their exterior parts are being passed by us clone builders.
Dude, I know you're at least partly asian, but you would make a good scarface in a reboot
Hahaha I’ll keep it in mind in case UA-cam doesn’t work out 😂 it can be an international prequel
How often did you clean it over the course of those 5000 rounds?
I usually put a few drops of CLP after each range session and then would clean it every 500 rounds. It definitely isn’t necessary to clean it that frequently but I wanted to anyway!
20 inch still the greatest !
What kind of light is that?
Are they back in stock. When I go to there sight I never see them available.
Unfortunately not :( another con I should have mentioned is how they’re usually OOS. I just got lucky I guess
@@jamesshoots may have to find one used.
Reliability is everything. Accuracy is just a detail. I couldn't care less how accurate a gun is if it isn't 100% reliable.
Out of stock for two years now
Yeah tbh I had a section in this vid about a con being how they’re usually OOS. Should have kept it. I got this back in 2019 so just got lucky I guess
I need a A4 clone so bad 😢
Do it!!!
Those FN Military Collectors are really nice guns. We went with their A4 and it’s just a joy to shoot.
BCM > PSA lol
4 MOA is “military” acceptable accuracy.
M-4 Barrels all day! No pencils over here guyz! 😂😂😂💯🥂🪖👑💣💣💣💣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🚀
