You know I used to be someone who spent an obscene amount of money on high end restaurants. Now I just want a plastic chair and somewhat clean tabletop 🤣
Both are Tamil dishes and you’re right about roti canai although some argue it’s from Kerala. But murtabak is from the Middle East originally. Both dishes are common in Malaysia and also West Sumatra as you are so close and have the same influences on cuisine with a history of a trading port with India, Pakistan, China and the Middle East. I wasn’t able to try roti canai in KL but it was interesting to see how martabak was different, I like the savoury version the best but Malaysia definitely has the best sweet version!
@Ayngelina you are mistaken roti canai is not = paratha. Thus even in singapore there is no roti canai but only paratha. Indians eat paratha. It is different texture. Canai is malay word to press thin. I hv eaten paratha before, different texture. Some argued long ago a chef from chennai came to this British colony to earn a living by making a different bread. I hv heard that story too.
The first item you ate isn't murtabak. Its the thick version of apam balik. The texture is totally different from murtabak. And the way its made is totally different from murtabak as well. To make murtabak you twirl the dough thin, lay it out and pour the egg meat filling. Fold it up and grill. Its usually savory. For apam balik, you pour the bater into a hot plate, top it up with sugar, crushed peanuts and sometimes some sweet corn. Its a snack/desert. Its always eaten sweet. The dough used for both are different as well
@@ayngelina In Malaysia we call it Apam Balik but in Indonesia they call it Martabak Murtabak in Malaysia is like Roti Canai with chicken or beef filling Roti Canai in Malaysia but Paratha in Singapore They are very similar
Hope you have a fun time in Vietnam. Just posted my first video in Ho Chi Minh City. We had such a good time. We are headed to night market this week, similar to this one.
Yes I now know. It's because I am used to martabak in Indonesia where there is a sweet one and the savory one. I didn't know in Malaysia they have a separate name for the sweet one. Thank you for chiming in!
It's funny in that the Vietnamese don't understand why westerners are so obsessed with the "American War" as they call it, because they have moved on. But having lived in Cuba for 2 years prior to 2020 I can say the two countries don't compare. You wouldn't know Vietnam is communist with all of the capitalism going on. But what is even more interesting is that even for Alan in Indonesia, so many people warned him to be safe here because they said he could be shot and everyone thinks there are guns everywhere. But Alan keeps asking people where he can buy a gun and people look frightened and say only police have them. They know he's joking but also he said he was surprised at how friendly and kind people have been to us considering we can't speak or even read the language.
@@ayngelina It's hard for me not to think of Vietnam as B&W. Literally. In the 60's there was three channels all playing the news at 6. B&W TV in my house. Hello Ayngelina. I want 2be stuck in food court paradise. Looking forward 2 Vietnam.

That last dish looked so yummy and fun❤
It was!
Just for knowledge. Murtabak and roti canai are from malaysia. Not from another country.

Great video! Where was the food court in chinatown where you had the loh see fun? Thks for sharing 🙏
It was beside the night market, you just walk all the way to the back of the market and its the entrance to the food court.

Yes, Petaling Jaya is a city by itself, but if we talk in terms of the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, PJ is viewed as a suburb.
Ok that makes sense. I just didn’t want to offend anyone by minimizing how big it was.

@@ayngelina No, we are eating our way through Kuala Lumpur 😂

@@ayngelina We also went to Can Tho and Mekong Delta for floating market episode. That was a lot of fun.
I didn’t make it there so I’m interested to see how you liked it.
Hey, if you have to be stuck an extra 5-7 days. KL is the place to be! 😛
That’s what I thought, it could definitely be worse.
Hello gorgeous. Please make a video about dating in Colombia
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience there so I can’t help but check out Life with David as he does speak about this.
