@@islandwatch my only wish is they used the same bracelet they used on the one in 1968, it was really cool. The watch head itself is like 98%-99% perfect.

I work construction and my skx009 has only one noticable scratch on the crystal and that's because I was being careless inside a trench. Hardlex is fine guys!
@EricSmith-li4vw I work on cars and my hardlex is just destroyed at this point, just gonna let it scratch until the dial is unreadable and then replace it.

I mean, technically, for a diver/sports watch mineral can be better as it is more shatter proof compared to sapphire though it scratches much more easily. That is how they try to rationalise it but ultimately it comes down to price. Hardlex does outperform more generic mineral crystals through.
I dig the pepsi colored chapter ring, looks good with the charcoal dial and the bezel. All business in the dial, all party in the chapter ring! The 5 Reissue also looks great, it doesn't appear as heavy as other pillow shaped sports/diver watches. I bet the eBay resellers are gonna make a lot on them. I'm on pause with buying new pieces, haha, but I hope Seiko fans will manage to get this.

The secured a 200yr supply of Hardlex in 1982 so gotta use it up. Lol
I picked one of those 55th anniversary 5s as soon as I found out about it. And I love it and imo its the best of the limited editions that were released this year. It also fills a gap in my collection replacing my SNK that dropped and broke 4 or 5 years ago. Few thing I'm not to big on is the bezel for me it's either really lose or almost impossible to turn and its a pain to wind manually. But other then that I'm happy to have a 4r movement back on my wrist. Not the most accurate but a lot more accurate then the 6r in my Willard.
Great job. This vid convinced me to order a Spinnaker x Islander collab - picked up the purple but wondering if the blue/orange was the way to go.

Wow...I *did* anticipate your getting the new additions to the 5 Sports GMT line (still absolutely loving the 003 "Batman" I got from you), but wasn't expecting the '68 5 Sports reissue...now I'm just nervously wondering if you'll get any more in stock - I'd pretty much given up on snagging one!

I must have been living under a rock because I didn't realize some Seikos now come with (better?) Jubilee-style bracelets, compared to years ago. So are they decent?
Overall, the 5SK platform is just a rich mine of swanky available versions. I'm sure all of this keeps you on your toes, Marc, regarding what you may do with the Islanders.

I'm a little bummed the yellow came out right after I got the orange, but I think I still prefer the metallic sunburst of the orange dial to the flat yellow.

There a lot of negatives in using sapphire crystals! 1.Sapphire crystals add a lot of extra weight to the watch , 2. Because they do not scratch easily watch will not obtain that vintage worn look as crystal will remain clean and worn pick up scratches. 3. Sapphire crystals don't scratch easily but if they do you can not polish it off unlike plastic crystals, also it's quite easy to crack it and replacement will be more expensive. They just not needed in mid market watches

Love the 60s re-imagined look but even slightly domed Hardlex with that bezel sounds like a recipe for disaster on my wrist - my Monster hardlex has survived over a dozen years due to luck and more likely the fact the bezel protects it by about 1mm 1/25inch at the edge.

Still love Seiko but no sapphire no purchase. There are plenty of great Prospex Seikos that have it. As I recall the first thig you did with your Islander SKXs was fit them with sapphire crystals. Quite right too. 😊😊
55th anniversary. Right. Just think - next year it will be the 56th anniversary.
In general Islanders spoiled my Seiko gene....maybe i got room for a save the ocean monster, but other than that, the Islander upgrades just make it hard to budget for another Seiko, or "Seyko" as Michael Scott's wall certificate of authenticity reads...😅

I hate these clasps on Seikos...bracelet looks so cheap with that.

The first one is very, very nice, vintage look and the old 5 logo. The others, where the 5 looks like it's been knocked on its ass, that ruins the look for me and i'd find them too visually irritating to buy. I've owned various Seiko 5's in the past, including a diver style, whole dial lume.

You can fill any hole with sapphire crystal. Doesn't mean that hole will be a fully functional watch that keeps accurate time and will last a lifetime. The sapphire crystal means nothing on these cheap Chinese micro situations, especially if the watch doesn't function within a year. Or you Have to set it everytime because no power reserve. You need to understand what makes a quality time piece. Reading clearly means nothing if there's nothing to read.
Felt like island watch could have done better with the response, so u attempted to do it for them.
Seiko are a proper watch maker, they spend money designing watches and developing movements, they also pay their staff, marketing dept etc. They make original design, quality watches with in house movements. People need to stop comparing them to Chinese junk, if you want sapphire crystal you can pay a bit more for one of Seiko's prospex line, otherwise be happy with a budget Seiko with hardlex
