Hunting Horn main here! While the songs and notes might look a little scary at first it’s actually quite simple and intuitive and only takes about a day to really get the feel for things. Depending on which Horn you pick, after a bit of playtime you’ll develop your own combos to link your notes together to queue up your songs for a recital. If you have a Horn with a Red Note (and also bought Iceborne) you gain access to the Impact Echo Wave which is a very simple and strong offensive move for when a monster is downed. Line up three, pop your three blasts, encore for the big one on the head. Positioning and getting a feel for your speed is key but thanks to Self Improvement which comes on all horns, you’re basically never going to bounce off a monster’s hide so you spend less time worrying about hitzones and more time setting up songs or moving into a good spot to land the big parts of your combos.

Primarily a Bow and Dual Blades main since 2013. Love the stamina management and balancing offensive skills with evasion/stamina skills in the latest two games. I also enjoy a bit of Charge Blade and LBG. I've been playing through Worldborne with Greatsword, recently, and I must say it's the most difficult weapon I've tried to use due to it's slow attacks and importance when it comes to positioning. The only reason I've gotten as far as I have as easily as I have is thousands of hours of prior experience with the game. For being, on the surface, the simplest weapon, I think GS is the hardest to learn because it requires lots of game sense rather than just learning the weapon.
@@MyChannel-g6f7l glaive is interesting. I only ever used it for my first time through the iceborne story, I definitely need to spend more time getting to know it.
I agree with this, GS is a weapon that seems simple but really only works optimally when you absolutely know the monster inside and out, and that can take dozens of successful hunts. I'm also a DB main though 😂 much more agile and forgiving when paired with good stamina management
I'm really glad you responded! Could you make a video evaluating or explaining the best upgrade trees in the MHW base game? Another video suggestion could be to give each boss a "quick tip" or something you should do. For example Miosma Decoration versus Vaal Hazak.
@@MyChannel-g6f7l definitely, it's just the amount of new players I've seen charge in with a greatsword is concerning, can't blame em since they're new but they'll have a hard time if they main the weapon or while in co-op, it's always important to learn a monster, ain't gonna be able to first try it all the time and if you do it just gives false confidence
ive used every weapon extensively (mhr and hr 999 with almost 4k hours spread on 3 saves) and long sword is unironically the hardest to master for me, charge blade was way easier to understand haha
For me, charge blade is a pretty easy weapon to understand and use. If you know how to charge the shield, blade or make it into pizza cutter, its pretty much the same as the other weapons. Keeping up the buff for ig is much harder thing to do than charging phials
New LS user here, but along with the dope ass counters the sound it makes when you counter just keeps me on playing LS. (the regular iai slash has i frames too, its useful if you’re not confident in the spirit slash or want to practice but i have been informed the regular iai slash has less invincibility frames)
Longsword is just so much fun!! Yeah, the s are right at the start of the regular iai slash, like they are in the dodge roll, and are similarly minimal too. Really hard to pull off and will likely be landed by accident more than anything else haha
also! both iai attacks are counters, and the regular slash powers up your spirit gauge for 30 seconds if you’re able to hit the counter, as opposed to 15 seconds regularly. also the rate of spirit gauge refill depends on what your spirit gauge level is at. i have so many little niche information about LS it’s kinda sad 😭😂
6:22 also about spirit helmbreaker, after the spirit thrust, you can actually influence the direction your character jumps by inputting a direction after the thrust. i’ve only seen it work sideways and forward, not backward, but sometimes that info is useful. also when in the air, pressing rt+y or triangle again and using your joystick to input a direction will allow you to change the direction you’re facing midair so you don’t miss your helmbreaker.
Huntinghorn/Hammer Main Here. People Love me even If they dont say IT haha. Dualblades Love my Max stamina buff and everyone loves the health, Attack and defense Up buff. 😎
Tbf for me all of the weapons are hard in their own way, well except the hbg, lbg has some skill to it while hbg is just spam and guard. I can say Swaxe, LS, and bow are one of the aggressive weapon archetypes where you do it all just for damage but lack on the defensive side. Mastering the combos of these weapons will give you the highest dps possible and faster clear runs than other weapons. Could say the same for GS since most people think charging is the only way to use the weapon, it goes so much more like attack placements and predictive movement partbreaks and what not.
I've used every weapon pretty extensively over nearly every game with probably well over 10k hours into the series as a whole. I tend to start off with the GS at the start of new games to get a feel for what monsters there are but in the end go with what works best for each individual monster. Sometimes you need ranged attacks, fighting countless Fatalis' back in the old days teaches you you need to bust those horns and wings for parts. As heavy and satisfying as GS hits are I've found with some i can take them out significantly faster with the duals. But who doesn't love a HH main coming into a party of 4 and buffing/healing everyone? It all comes down to what feels best for you despite the situation. I will say, if you play older games and are doing underwater hunts that pooping a mega dash and charging underwater with a Lance is great fun. Nothing better than counting the hits on a Dire Miralis as the counter goes up and up and up lol.
CB main here. You guys really need to try this because you can charge your sword causing an extra little hit at the end of an attack, charging your shield can lead to a very strong axe attack, and savage axe if you guys didn’t know it is literally just an incredibly strong chainsaw used to cut through your enemies in a flashy way. If you haven’t already, try this weapon and don’t give up trying to learn about it. It’s super fun and it leads to many victories when you get used to it.
I was originally a longsword main but when I met the pickle, I couldn't make it work. I switched to lance and beat it first try. I have been a lance main ever since.
charge blade is so rewarding and really not that hard to learn just alot to remember. i know the CB inside and out but can't get my head around switch axe for the life of me 😂( learning guard points is alot easier then it sounds but allows you to be far more aggresive and actually is a great skill to learn for other weapons aswell that use counters or i-frames as its timing based)
It’s really rewarding and satisfying yeah!! I can never remember the guard point attacks in the heat of the moment haha, I’m gonna need to practice that some more!!
How does charge blade sound more complicated in World then it was in Rise? (My very first weapon was HH, switched to SnS before I got to rise and switched to CB)
SnS is way harder than ls to me at least in World and rise i get that SnS is a Beginner weapon in every Monster hunter before but useing the back step to avoid stuff and punishing With a perfect timed perfect rush is way harder than just press R2 and circle at any time and punishing With R2
I think what makes HBG a little more difficult to pick up for new players than you give it credit for is the reduced defense combined with poor movement. If a single one of those strong dodges can’t get you out of danger, you’re in trouble, so you absolutely have to know when to sheathe and reposition. It’s extremely easy for newer players without good game sense to get carted back to back because the monster deals so much damage to you. Good video though
(hasn't watched the video yet) I like to say dual blades is straight up the easiest of the lot. It's such a beginner friendly weapon and people can clearly look past its minuscule damage per hit as how fast you're hitting makes up for it. And another reason why I say DB is because I introduced 5 people into monster hunter and 3 of them picked up dual blades after playing one weapon and then progressed insanely further
LS has a high skill ceiling, sure, but it also has the highest skill floor. Once you know the moveset, you only need minimum monster knowledge to be invincible.
hunting horn may be a support weapon, but thats not going to stop me from getting the most damage out of everyone on my team lmao also, one thing to note about the hunting horn, your self buff is VERY GOOD, always play it when you need it
Not to mention that why playing only monster hunter world? There are Rise and Generation there, waiting for me to try new builds and finishing some runs😂
It may not be beginner friendly in terms of how difficult it is, but I feel like the Greatsword is one of the best weapons for beginners because it FORCES you to learn the monsters. I say this as a CB main, too. When I went and played GU, I got slapped around so hard that I forced myself to only use greatsword until I learned most if not every fight down to the letter Then I discovered the dopamine hit that is sword oils and I’ve never gone back (bring back oils please 😭)
U Said u can Transform Ur lbg to counter Wyvern. But how? Is it a mod or just the Right input? I use xbox Controller so normally its aim+B to out in gorund, havent figure out how to counter atm
its in the bowgun mod. i forgot the exact name wyvern something but only lbg can equip it. just press circle and instead of planting the mine, it will shoot it. change the mod and test it in the training area
Kinda tired of the LS weep weapon at first it was ha ha I get it now it’s just annoying it’s more than the weep weapon + if it’s the weep weapon then y am I not a weep🤔 Good vid tbh just please don’t spam special sheath it does more damage if used as a counter
No weapon in any game I've ever played has a turn-around like Hunting Horn in Monster Hunter World/Iceborne does. If you're new to this series and are bad at games, Hunting Horn will destroy you. The game will be infinitely harder than using a HBG. The *skill floor* is as high as other weapons' ceiling. Yet... at the same time... if you're a grizzled veteran who has mastered the game, Hunting Horn will get you on top of tierlists and friend requests. The *skill ceiling* doesn't exist.
Hbg having more range than lbg is WILD xD I don't know what u were smoking lol I mean if you play with periphery ammo it's maybe the same? But more?? Most ppl play with spread ammo too, so it's kinda missing that info xD
It generally does and has access to the barrels too. Spread is just meta, plenty of people are going to pick it up and play with normal ammo. You people really out yourselves with being utterly clueless to what newer players encounter playing the game lol
@LightItUpDan Fair enough, I wanted to comment on the safety aspect of it. Lbg is less "sluggish" to Handel and the bit of range u have to the monster with hbg is mostly a false sense of security as the monsters are faster than u xD. Great video in general Dude 👌.
Meta vs the weapon itself is different. Yes HBG spread is closer range, but normal & peirce shots are quite father range than LBG. To the point that you'll often not be able to stay in critical distance without traps when solo because the monsters will be too close for it. If strictly speaking meta, then only spread is closer while the sticky/ cluster is still farther than LBG as well

You use the greatsword. . . . . . . . . . . I'm kidding of course , you use whatever you want , as long as you have fun and try out different weapons who know you maybe like me who started with sword and sheild and now use the GS.
For me when I first laid eyes upon the raw of power of the great sword I knew it was the weapon for me I did not have any need for a training a area to master it (i forgot there was one) and after I killed the hungry hungry lizard I never looked back and that's why I think the great sword is the best weapon ever in the history of time and space and all that good stuff cuz if there is one rule that the Universe follows big sword go brr
@LightItUpDan sorry if it was a bit hard to read. I made this comment in the middle of the night and forgot to space it out. Also I really wasn't expecting you to see this comment on a 10 month old video that's crazy dedication I respect it
I’ve been a Lance main for 400 hours, just beat Iceborne base game (took my time) and thinking about having Great Sword or Hammer as a secondary. Let’s go 💥💥💥
I'd like to add, for absolute beginners almost every weapon is easy to pick up. You just won't be doing tons of damage. GS is the shining example. The bread and butter is basically hit and run, so if you can teach a new player that GS is easily the best for new players. New players shouldn't worry about spending a lot of time in the training room, especially if someone guides them on the basics. The longer you focus on combos the more likely you'll forget to put them into action, or worse get hit because you don't know the timing. I'm a big fan of CB and HH, so I would be qualified to teach only those lol. Great job not only covering the basics of every weapon, but giving a good summary of their abilities too!
CB is simple, and I will fight anyone who argues about how complex the move-set is. All you need to know is SnS with an extra step, if the phial's turn red charge them into the blade. There you go, simple. For a new player they don't need to know how to use a Super or Ultra, or even use axe mode, let alone guard points. Keep the information reduced until they are ready to add one extra step. The same logic goes for fighting game combos, add 1, apply it, add another step.
HH on the other hand is just a Hammer with extra reach. I would say forget the music, learn what each button does, and play hit and run. The second step is just adding self-improvement to the loop. That way hit and run now doesn't bounce and increased movement speed. Once the new player has spent enough time bashing comfy monsters, then consider the other songs. The true end goal is playing sweet chin music on whatever poor sap decided a tail spin was a good idea.
Agreed that some won’t be everyone’s playstyle, although disagree that they’re all inherently easy. You have to be submersed in MH games already for that to be the case
alright so from what I can gauge, this mechanic will still have the same outcome on gameplay than the clutchclaw? As in: you will have to engage with this mechanic, if you want to play the game at higher difficulty, because the game will be still balanced around tenderising the monster. at least that is what it seems like for now.
@@angelcrush3320 I don't think so, the wounds created last for a certain amount of damage, after which they go, rather than a timer providing a damage multiplier like the clutch claw. subtle differences but sounds infinitely better to me so far
interesting that might actually be a better system then, cool. I hope they get rid of timed quests too, to Incentivise different builds other than bigger number>better.

@@deathstalker6094 Yeah I hear you mate, all part of the learning curve of a hunter isn't it?
@@MyChannel-g6f7l instead so

Appreciate you mate, welcome to the community!!
ive used every weapon extensively (mhr and hr 999 with almost 4k hours spread on 3 saves) and long sword is unironically the hardest to master for me, charge blade was way easier to understand haha
Haha wow! Totally understandable though mate, different weapons are gonna stick better for different folks!
For me, charge blade is a pretty easy weapon to understand and use. If you know how to charge the shield, blade or make it into pizza cutter, its pretty much the same as the other weapons. Keeping up the buff for ig is much harder thing to do than charging phials
@@zrevi5918 what I realize a lot of people find hard about it is the difference between aed and saed along with how to guard point consecutively
@@xpect6438 such great knowledge here!! thanks for posting this!!
Huntinghorn/Hammer Main Here. People Love me even If they dont say IT haha. Dualblades Love my Max stamina buff and everyone loves the health, Attack and defense Up buff. 😎
NICE! I'm a huge Hammer and HH fan myself! 😤
I much prefer using the wide B swings on GS then slinger burst to go straight into TCS, much more involved and fun, I find
There really is something for everyone
this is a fantastic summary Dan!
Thanks man!! Means a lot especially from yourself!!
Me sitting here overwhelmed trying to find a good secondary weapon that I can love outside of bow. 😂 perfect timing on the video 👌🏽
Haha wow this came out JUST when you needed it!! Hope it’s been helpful for you!!
CB is dope yeah, I did a full overview of it here: ua-cam.com/video/HE5fB-LjyBo/v-deo.html
On the long sword , if your mid air and the monster turns your can hit triangle on ps to turn in mid air
Great tip! I just need to practice it all more, I suck at helm breakers haha
I was originally a longsword main but when I met the pickle, I couldn't make it work. I switched to lance and beat it first try. I have been a lance main ever since.
Love both the weapons! Variety is so nice when playing weapons, I really recommend players try different ones

Great choice! 😤
I just started playing mhw a month ago, i fell in love with dual blades, then sns, and then ls... But ultimately I've been smashing MR with solo hbg
Welcome to MHW!! That's a super nice mix, love to see it!!
Great info here!
thanks homie!
charge blade is so rewarding and really not that hard to learn just alot to remember. i know the CB inside and out but can't get my head around switch axe for the life of me 😂( learning guard points is alot easier then it sounds but allows you to be far more aggresive and actually is a great skill to learn for other weapons aswell that use counters or i-frames as its timing based)
It’s really rewarding and satisfying yeah!! I can never remember the guard point attacks in the heat of the moment haha, I’m gonna need to practice that some more!!
20:55 "but with extra freedom" HAHAHAHAH😭😭
I couldn't not say it once I thought of it!! 😭😭
Yesss we have still good mhw videos in 2024
Appreciate you!!
How does charge blade sound more complicated in World then it was in Rise?
(My very first weapon was HH, switched to SnS before I got to rise and switched to CB)
Haha, there's a lot going on for sure
SnS is way harder than ls to me at least in World and rise i get that SnS is a Beginner weapon in every Monster hunter before but useing the back step to avoid stuff and punishing With a perfect timed perfect rush is way harder than just press R2 and circle at any time and punishing With R2
Foresight slash ain't comparable to backstep and perfect rush mate. Iai counter and helmbreaker is more comparble.
Cheers! I feel I highlight the poor mobility adequately
Having used most weapons, sns unironically the most challenging (for me atleast) to master with backstepping and claw combo
Oh wow okay, fair enough! What would you say comes easiest to you?
@@MyChannel-g6f7l easily GS and DB
Damn, GS? You must be really skilled at MHW!
@lightitupdan GS is really just the perfect weapon to use when you know a monsters patterns, since there isn't any complicated moves and very low risk
bonus tip for insect glaive is that all 3 buffs also give you lvl 3 earplugs (at least in rise) on top of the 3 buffs

It may not be beginner friendly in terms of how difficult it is, but I feel like the Greatsword is one of the best weapons for beginners because it FORCES you to learn the monsters. I say this as a CB main, too. When I went and played GU, I got slapped around so hard that I forced myself to only use greatsword until I learned most if not every fight down to the letter

Hey bud! It's an LBG specific mod "wyvernblast mod", shows up as "wyvern blast type 2" when equipped! Then it's just pressing B to fire it off! 💥

Good vid tbh just please don’t spam special sheath it does more damage if used as a counter
🆗
No weapon in any game I've ever played has a turn-around like Hunting Horn in Monster Hunter World/Iceborne does.
If you're new to this series and are bad at games, Hunting Horn will destroy you. The game will be infinitely harder than using a HBG. The *skill floor* is as high as other weapons' ceiling.
Yet... at the same time... if you're a grizzled veteran who has mastered the game, Hunting Horn will get you on top of tierlists and friend requests. The *skill ceiling* doesn't exist.
It's something else, for sure
Putting all weapons on a single video attracts the attention of multiple weapon cult so.... CB mains charge!!! 😂😂😂
LET'S GOOO 💥💥💥
GS MAIN AND WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT UNGGA BUNGGA!
CRUUUNCH
@@lorestiralongo1618 Yeah I feel you man, LBG has fantastic mobility whereas HBG you're quite stuck in place. Thanks dude, appreciate you!
Meta vs the weapon itself is different. Yes HBG spread is closer range, but normal & peirce shots are quite father range than LBG. To the point that you'll often not be able to stay in critical distance without traps when solo because the monsters will be too close for it. If strictly speaking meta, then only spread is closer while the sticky/ cluster is still farther than LBG as well
I started in 4U with the CB and I felt too overpowered after spamming SED
I wouldn't say it feels overpowered in World tbh

Good to know my charge blade is the hardest weapon in the game
I'd say HH and GS are harder, but CB mechanically can be very complex, yeah
5:13 THE YELLOW GAY!
😩
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!
Im a lance main, please love me!

Agreed that some won’t be everyone’s playstyle, although disagree that they’re all inherently easy. You have to be submersed in MH games already for that to be the case
man I really don't like the gameplay around tenderising the monster parts. hate the mechanic, I can only hope they don't put it into MH wilds.

alright so from what I can gauge, this mechanic will still have the same outcome on gameplay than the clutchclaw?
As in: you will have to engage with this mechanic, if you want to play the game at higher difficulty, because the game will be still balanced around tenderising the monster. at least that is what it seems like for now.
@@angelcrush3320 I don't think so, the wounds created last for a certain amount of damage, after which they go, rather than a timer providing a damage multiplier like the clutch claw. subtle differences but sounds infinitely better to me so far
