You are one of only a few channels I actually get excited to see new uploads from. Cheers for standing up for folks in a real pickle with crappy builders. I have been finding myself using 'non compliant' way more as a truck driver. Thank you again.
We went through something similar. It sucks. Lots of stress for nearly six years in our case. Had to take matters into our own hands, hire professionals who could fix it properly then take legal action to recover costs. That's six years of our lives that we were miserable and won't get back all because someone cut a few corners to save a few bucks.
Now this a gentleman with respect. He could have kept the camera on the customer while going up the stairs, but he panned away so that her behind is not in the frame. Most youtubers would milk such an angle shot!
Great video, its good to see that builder has come back and fixed some issues. Not so good that they created more. If they did it right the first time they wouldnt have to ignore their customers.
Certainly, a lot more has to be done in this industry where builders, contractor's and the very people that sign off on these jobs be held accountable with jail time simply handing out Fines isn't working if I'm going to spend my hard-earneded money on something that should be an investment in the future but can't sell because of non-compliant works I don't think I could rely on a broken system to give me justice. Thanks mate for the work you do that you can give some people hope and peace of mind, Respect. Keep up the awesome content!
Great to see that the builder came back. Be it forced to or not. He has created some extra work but if this guy is smart he'll use this as a positive and train his crew on the importance on doing compliant works. ✌️ Peace
Yer, you'd think they'd take some pride in their work and do it right the first time, avoiding a mess like this. But I guarantee every home built by this builder would have similar issues.
@jameson566 This builder doesn't really give a shit. All those other homes out there that he's built do you think he's going to do the right thing by those home owners. Sadly I think not. 🤔 Maybe a visit should be paid to his current building site and school the home owners a bit in what compliant works should look like. 🤗
Thank you for your videos, they are very educational. I've never owned a home and I'm learning a lot about what to look for. Great to see a positive result. Hopefully more homeowners get their repairs done.
Went through the process and hit the stop button just prior to demolition! After binge watching your vids I'm glad we didn't go through with a new build!
I watched them building this house!!!!! I told my wife how crappy it was! I was so happy to see them fix that cladding at the very least….. poor owners!
Haven’t look at specifications of cladding product but surprised to see no head flashing to aluminium joinery and relying on silicone to seal junction ? Really enjoy your videos keep it up👍🏽
I remember when our house got built in the 80's. We had a number of 'issues' that were noticed after moving in and the old man called them back in to fix them. The crew that came back sullenly rectified a number of issues and were sitting out the front having lunch yapping in a foreign language. Unfortunately for them they made two tragic mistakes. The first one was thinking they were safe speaking an Eastern European language ... that unfortunately for them my Belarussian/Ukrainian raised mother could understand more than enough of. The second tragic mistake was pissing off my 6' 4", built like a brick shithouse, Vietnam Veteran father, who was still in the army at the time after my mother told him what they were saying. The second crew that arrived a day later finished ALL of the outstanding jobs ... I believe the first crew were unable to work 'for some time' afterwards ... or chew solid food ... it was a simpler time in the 80's, negotiations were handled very differently ;)
Thanks to this I've picked up little things for when I get handover of my property. After the PCI and rectifications I'll be going on with my own level, ruler, etc for my own sanity check 😂 If I could I'd use this bloke as my inspector but I'm in QLD lmfao
I wish you were in Tassie mate, my building inspector was useless , didn’t pick up on water ingress into a substrate and that’s just what I know about , and I’m a sparky 😢
Mate you do an awesome job, if only the others did too. Your phrase "do your best and silicone the rest" made me proper laugh out loud. In the UK there's a reason we call that stuff "sillyc*nt sealer", because the silly c*nts use it for everything they shouldn't.
Not sure if this is a dumb question or not, but I'll proceed; the cladding material is replaced under warranty but surely someone has to pay for it when the initial installation is conducted in such a piss poor manner, obviously that's not on the home owner as it's the builders responsibility, so does the replacement material come out as a cost to the builder? Secondly, do you have a ball park figure on what the rectification works that were carried out in this video might have cost the builder? Curious only because I'm not one to read instructions, but in the face of thousands of dollars I'm sure I'd take the time to do so as well as being incredibly embarrassed for producing such a poor result initially. Aside from that, absolutely loving your content mate. It's criminal what work is being put out these days and I'm greatly appreciative of someone taking the time to explain it in such an informative and professional manner. Good on ya.
Really enjoy your videos… these builders must really love you 😂😂😂 Just an idea… a man of your knowledge and skill will be very valuable in helping home owners manage their builds. Maybe offering a service to clients where you can manage the whole build and be heavily involved in the design. You seem very knowledgeable. A client will rely on you on implementing your quality assurance procedures and helping them pick the right builder. Your thorough approach is invaluable. In the realm of client side - project management, the service that you will provide will be invaluable. Keep up the good work
In my opinion, I think a client is better off, paying you a lump sum project management fee, to act as their project manager, than be faced with defects like the ones you document.I’ll be honest with you, I think some builders don’t even know some of the tolerances/ requirements you pick up on.
at 10.28 I could swear you can see daylight between the board and the tile. when she points out how they pulled the board out and he moves his camera, you can see it in 2 places.
Mate. You need to be training up other people and do inspections for people building. I would pay $1000 for a 3 hour inspection and I reckon I would want it done at least 3 times while the building is being built and a 4 hour inspection $1500 for a final. I am learning so much . Cheers mate 👍
I believe many of the leaky window issues in AU are caused because of a standard aluminum window design that was originally made for brick walls. They are sealed with caulking into the walls. Except now we use all different kinds of cladding. Often different types on the same building. The small groove doesn't allow proper flashing of the windows. Typically, the installer shoves a piece of plastic damp course into the small groove and that's it. In other countries, it wouldn't fly.
Interesting to see an update video, I've always just assumed that builders claim bankruptcy and reopen in there brothers name the next day over some of these dodgy builds...
Makes me glad I live in an old house. It's had it's issues but at least fixing them doesn't require redoing work that was done only months ago. What a waste either of the owners money if this poor work isn't rectified or the builders money if it is. Indirectly we all suffer as this waste isn't good for the economy.
Seriously can you include in your will if god forbid something happens to you to keep this channel up, builders must be seathin at the site of your videos and how you empower normal people like us on the dangers of the building trade.. Such service you are doing please be safe and keep cranking the vids out. Sorry bit of a morbid comment but the public needs people like you, thank you.
The perpendiculars on my brickwork seem to be all over the place! At a vertical downpipe the perp at the bottom is 0mm (ie up against the edge of the downpipe). At the top it is something like 45mm off the edge of the downpipe. The wall is 28 courses high. Would this be compliant???
So the builder has come back and just fixed a couple of the easiest issues and created more in the process. Poor home owner has a lot of fighting still left to do!
They have tried to shoot the external architrave to the reveal, the nail has been shot on an angle or hit the aluminium fin and bent and pooped out the side. If you know how a window is constructed then this would be easier to understand.

Mate my wife and i are building next year, are these smaller Building Companies, or the big ones as well with dodgy Tradesman?. Skills and Pride in workmanship have diminished in Oz!!.
Bigger ones that do sharply priced volume work, townhouses, apartments etc are generally rubbish. They use the cheapest of cheap, and use the cheapest of cheap subbies. An established builder with a long track record is the best option. A smaller crew, and the boss being involved is what you want. You will pay more, and likely have to wait longer to get them, but the jobs are night and day in quality generally. I spent years as a subbie in residential construction for reference.
Just wow..... you should do a set of follow-up videos on fixes...and name these builders and tradies in each video. You're within your legal.rights to shame these maggots!
All of the tradies need to be trained up on waterproofing they are not worried about it cause it’s not there home as they say in Australia She’ll be right mate
If the shower was leaking seems like the worst thing to silicone the OUTSIDE of the shower; the water will still make it between and stand without getting out
Man, your videos make me never ever want to get a home built in Australia... unless I'm an owner builder where I can pick and choose the trades myself. The VBA needs to actually grow some balls and start weeding out these dodgy builders and lazy tradies quick smart.

An amazing service would be to name and shame these builders which he doesn’t do! Pity cause that’s what people need to know.
i think if he named and shamed, he would have a hit put on him in no time at all.@@johnnyblaze9158

Just wondering… how many houses do you inspect that pass first inspection… or are most of the buildings have things wrong with them?????
I also want to know!
I am renter. I am not even in the market for a new home, I just love watching this channel and see builders get roasted . LOL
It's generally a good outcome. A big improvement for the homeowners
This channel along with working on the industry is the reason I'd never get a builder and just do it myself.

I have a question how many ladders hade you fallen off of?
How long has it been since you have inspected a house without any major defects that could get worse over time?
at 10.28 I could swear you can see daylight between the board and the tile. when she points out how they pulled the board out and he moves his camera, you can see it in 2 places.

Having had several building inspections and still ongoing, you are way under budgeting for your building inspection costs.
$1000 would be cheap. Most building inspections in QLD are $500 and last no more than an hour max, they are no where near as qualified as this guy.
Flashings over the windows on the new cladding??
Plz make videos on whats normal standards... e.g. bathrooms, doors, walls etc... this will educate us more. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for this follow-up. However I doubt the homeowner will get the rest of the problems fixed...

I see a number of identical units built next to each other. Did they all suffer from the same issues causing water intrusion? Were they fixed as well?
