Is the National Board of Review the biggest jinx? I gotta feel bad for the NBR winners. Daniel Craig won Best Actor; Nicole Kidman won Best Actress, Elle Fanning won Supporting Actress, Jon M. Chu won Best Director, and Mike Leigh won for Original Screenplay - and none of them even got an Oscar nomination.
The last time that NBR was that way off was 2013 where Emma Thompson won Best Actress, Will Forte won Best Supporting Actor, Octavia Spencer won Best Supporting Actress, Spike Jonze won Best Director, and Joel Coen and Ethan Coen won Original Screenplay - and none of them were nominated either. Real tough beat.
The Brutalist with 10 nominations makes me so happy. My favourite film of the year. Thrilled for Anora, The Wild Robot, The Substance, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong - all movies & performances I liked this year. Shocked Conclave underperformed a little. Not as shocked by Dune Part 2. Usually it isn’t until the last film in the series that they really go all in on it. I better see Dune Messiah nominated everywhere. I would swap Mangold for Villeneuve/ Audiard for Berger in a heartbeat. I’m Still Here in Best Picture is still the shock of the night but a welcome one. From everything I’ve heard… Can’t wait to see it. I don’t think Emilia Perez should have 13 nominations. Wow.
James Mangold finally gets his due. The director of Girl Interupted, Copland, 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line, The Wolverine and Logan is now a Best Director nominee. Hell Yeah!! ✊️
It's awesome The Academy finally gives credit to James Mangold for being a steadfast director. Heavy, Copland, Girl Interrupted, Kate & Leopold, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan, Ford v Ferrari, & A Complete Unknown are all great films. DGA felt like they were saying welcome to the club James Mangold. We see your great work and all the love for A Complete Unknown show real strength. Monica Barbaro getting in alongside Chalamet & Norton is huge.
Congrats to I'm Still Here and Torres. Although realistically BP and even BA are still long shots (Demi's BA linked with Makeup and Hair, paired with GG AND all the precursor noms, will ultimately help her cross the finish line), it does have a real chance of beating the much-maligned Emilia Perez.
So happy about Demi Moore’s Golden Globe win and now her SAG and OSCAR nominations!🤩 I’ve absolutely adored her ever since General Hospital in 1982.💖Just watched her again in NO SMALL AFFAIR on Tubi. My gosh she’s so beautiful in it!💖 And it’s really neat seeing Jon Cryer, Tim Robbins, Jennifer Tilly & George Wendt in the movie with her from so long ago.😃
@@joaocosta5193 I went back to it and predicted it because it's Sony Pictures Classics and it's got a 8.9 IMDb score so I figured it could be a real passion pick for picture. I'm only surprised it didn't get Walter Salles for director.
Colman Domingo getting in twice for such average work over better such contenders that were far more deserving shows you what a chokehold he has on his peers in the acting branch. Ugh! 😒
Happy that I got Best Director and all the acting nominees correct. Not happy that Challengers was snubbed at the Oscars not even a Best Original Score nomination.
Even if Wicked did get adapted screenplay, it would need to win that in order to win best picture. It's extremely rare for a movie to win best picture without a screenplay or directing nomination. Conclave and A Complete Unknown are absolutely in much much better positions than Wicked is.
Coralie Fergeat shouldn't have been nominated in first place. The Substance is just an overuse of stale horror conventions in an already predictable plot, combined with decades-old, hollow ideas we already know. The Academy has officially gone down the toilet giving token nominations to women.
No Challengers in Original Score and Original Screenplay and no Nickel Boys in Best Cinematography does smart but cool to see Nosferatu rack up four deserved technical nominations
If Emilia Perez is winning Best Picture, then that means one of three things will happen: 1. The Brutalist is losing Best Director to EP 2. Conclave is losing Best Adapted Screenplay to EP 3. Emilia Perez somehow wins both Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay When was the last time Picture, Director and both Screenplay categories went to 4 different movies?
Only bc Hollywood always bends over for anyone & anything but American they hate themselves really. To give International movies 2 chances for Oscar’s BP ? Unfair NO other country does that that’s why there is an International Catagory WTF?
Moore vs Torres, Fernanda has the best performance of the 5, although it is difficult for the academy to vote for a brazilian actor to win, they'll vote for Demi's narrative.
It's a false narrative - she constantly says she's never won an acting award, conveniently forgetting she won the Razzie for WORST Actress two years in a row!
Am I the only one kinda insulted by these 3 and a half hour long films getting nominated for editing? The work may be great and it may truly need to be that long. So be it. But at least stay the fuck away from the EDITING nomination of all things.
When art is true art, I love it-it inspires, connects, and transcends. But the moment these so-called artists start preaching politics, they lose me. They’re no more qualified to lecture on policy than the homeless addict struggling on the streets of Hollywood, which they conveniently ignore while waving their gold statues. Spare us the moral high ground and stick to making great films.
BUT IT'S WOKE!!! 😂😂😂 Lol. I haven't seen it. And it's not because Mexican cartels and trans people, but because the musical part sounds awful from the clips I've seen.
I'm so happy for Monica Barbaro, Felicity Jones, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, Fernanda Torres, Timothee Chalamet, Edward Norton, James Mangold, Coralie Fargeat, Kieran Culkin, Colman Domingo, Sebastian Stan, & Jeremy Strong!

I love the contrast in opposites with Joyce with a red shirt and a black background and Chria in a dark shirt and a red background! ❤

"Big day for Brazil" ❤
Love you, Joyce

deserves to win
"Conclave" is nominated for editing!
Awesome day for The Substance!! Whew
Yep, one of the worst Oscar nominees for Best Picture in the history of the freaking earth!! Ugh
Poor Marianne Jean Baptiste.
Conclave got the Editing nomination
I predicted I’m Still Here
I had it for a while and dropped it

Joyce, I may be a big Wicked fan but I appreciate your honesty and how you present your logical points.
Denis Vilenuve was snubbed !! Dune 2 why does the Academy hate SciFi ??
Luca's movies the biggest snub.
Hehehehe WE STILL HERE 🇧🇷❤️
The AI thing was so exaggerated by twitter people that can’t read, it’s insane lol
But anything that Twitter does, it means nothing to the outside world.
@ exactly, in the end of the day it rarely has any impact in real life
Happy that I got Best Director and all the acting nominees correct. Not happy that Challengers was snubbed at the Oscars not even a Best Original Score nomination.
Who got paid off for an existing musical to get nominated for Original Score?
And Hans Zimmer wasn’t allowed to it’s such BS all politics
BIG ARI!
I’m Still Here
Marianne Jean-Baptiste is robbed
So so happy for Jeremy MF 💪❤️🏆 In a just world, he wins! Period.

IM STILL HEREEEEEEEEEEE
FERNANDA TORRES DO BRASIIIIIL
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I was at work AND I HAD TO FREAK OUT QUIETLY hahahahah BEST DAY EVER! GO FERNANDA TORRES! ❤🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I saw James Mangold, and thought they has screwed over Coralie Fargaet(sp?) for a second and got super PO.

Joyce knew all that would happen so whatever
Emilia Perez being the most nominated whatever

Zoe Saldana for the win!!!!

The Brutalist makes perfect sense for editing.
Wicked is not winning without Director/Writing nods, and no Acting/Editing win.
No offense Joyce and Chris so biased as hell 😑😑😑😑😑

Great is the key word here
The people that blindly nominated Emilia Perez ideology: “a film about Mexican cartel and trans?! Let’s do it!!!” 🤓
