- Stephanie and I set out in the We-No-Nah on Labor Day weekend to paddle, camp and fish our way along the Raquette River going from Long Lake to Tupper Lake in the gorgeous Adirondack Mountains. We spend 4 days and 3 nights camping in a lean to at every spot along the way. We catch some really nice Bass with plenty of Smallmouth action, a few Largemouth and a Pike! We encounter a bit of a calamity on the third night, but manage to recover and still have an amazing trip.

The traditional draining of the shoes lol I love it
Thanks for sharing your adventure. We did a the same route with a crew of 7 Scouts and 4 Adults from our Scout troop in 2012 (with the addition of Tupper Lake to teh falls). Your video brought back great memories of that trip.
Thanks for the video and the lesson. I’m sorry you lost your gear. Thanks for posting. We all learned along with you.
Thanks Michael! We definitely learned a lot from that incident. All our rods have floats on them now and I last my tackle into the canoe. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your adventure . Brings back great memories.
Not many words. To describe this. Awesome! You’re the best !
Wow thanks man, I really appreciate it! You can look forward to quite a few more Trout adventure videos from me soon!
Great video. Fun watching you paddle down the lake as we have a camp on the north end. My son and I paddled to Tupper and camped at the same lean to after the carry around the falls. That is a beatiful spot.
It really is, looking forward to seeing it again this year!
I’m in a quandary here. I really enjoy watching your canoe trips, and it’s got me thinking to buying a new solo canoe.
The problem is that winter is my all time favorite season, but if I’m to buy a new canoe I want to try it out first.
So I’m impatiently waiting for winter to end, but at the same time I don’t want it to end!
But it needs to end if I’m gonna test out canoes!
AAAARRRRGGH! The trials and tribulations of the Adirondack Outdoorsman!
🤣🤣🤣
Man, that sucks losing all that stuff. I noticed those floaty things on your poles in your other videos, now I know what made you get them, great idea.
I was actually pretty lucky when I picked up the We-No-Nah canoe you see me using. I bought it used for a pretty nice price and the guy had a pond in his backyard where I was able to try it out. I was somewhat leery of picking up a used canoe, but being able to inspect it closely and test it out on the spot really helped me make the decision. Losing all the fishing gear like that on this trip was definitely a hard lesson learned. Those little floats are great though! I even have one attached to my net. I also try to lash anything that is loose in the canoe to a thwart or some sort of point on the boat so nothing can get lost.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer
Wow, that is lucky, I’m a little Leery about used canoes also, I’m willing to splurge on a new one.
Ya know, I was going to suggest dummy cording (that’s what we called it in the service) all of your loose gear, but didn’t want ya to think I was calling you a dummy 🤣.
But like they say “no better teacher than experience “.
Looking forward to many more videos from you👍
@Uncle Dan, if they are available in your area check out Esquif Adirondack solo. 2 styles available, I picked up the high capacity model and love it. It's 12ft. and weighs 39lbs. , if you live anywhere near Oak Orchard Canoes they definitely have the best prices. I did 3 trips to the ADK last year and had no problems carrying gear for 3 to 5 day trips.

Cool, I just checked them out and they’re only around 2:30-3:00 hours away. Those canoes look really nice, thanks for letting me know👍 cheers 🍻
@Uncle Dan, I love this canoe it rides so light in the water when I just fishing that just the retrieve of a lure will turn it. But when fully loaded for a trip it still easy to paddle and quick.
Thanks for sharing, that is such a beautiful river and I know y'all had a great time. I used to love to go camping and I know that trip you took would have been a blast. New here and Gob Bless!
I am glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching! Stephanie and I love getting out in the Adirondacks.
Great vid my friend! Back in 2018 I volunteered with the NFCT and we worked on the Vista Trail making some improvements. Camped at the falls for a 3 day weekend and hung out with NYS Ranger as well. Awesome experience!
Another great one Jay, so sorry about your indecent, you were both safe and had your boat and paddles. And you are lucky, when I flipped I lost my glasses also. luckly I was a passenger on that trip seeing as we were 4hrs from home. Needless to say everything is tied to the canoe and I always have spare glasses in the truck.
Be glad you didn’t lose your life, life preserver are a must.
I cannot agree more!
Can you explain how the life preserver helped save his life here?

I hit the like button at 31:30. Sweet trip, classic course of travel, some good fishing, too bad about the gear. fresh start tho.
Oh wow thank you so much! We have managed to replace almost everything at this point, I am just trying to narrow down a new solid rod for trolling after those big Pike. I really like a few of the options from SixGill. Can't wait to see your next video!
What a great video, thanks for sharing! Subscribed to your channel as well
Thanks for checking out my stuff and subscribing!
Bummer on the lost gear but you and Steph made it out ok!! Stay safe!!
It was disheartening in the moment, but we replaced it all pretty quickly. I appreciate the concern man!
Nice video. You're good fisherman
Thanks for watching! I do the best I can out there, and with a little bit of luck on my side I usually come off of these trips with a few really nice catches!
Sorry you lost your gear, man. I can’t imagine. I’m headed up the Raquette in a couple weeks. I’ll keep an eye out for your Wabblers.
It was a nightmare, but a lesson learned lol
Injoyed your videos it's nice to see videos were your not so pushed for time so you can injoy fishing most videos have a set plan and schedule to maintain good job to bad you lost your fishing gear but a valuable lesson learned and I guarantee you it won't happen to you again haha take care love one another and may the God of Abraham Issaac and Jacob bless you because he has me already with you and your videos
Glad you like them!
Great trip, good times enjoyed everything! I'm a flatlander...
Glad you enjoyed it
This is Awesome!!
great adventure Cheers👍😎👍
Thanks for watching!
@@DaxWoodsWanderer your welcome, i love the outdoors i am just a little to old to be doing that stuff anymore, i watch a lot of joe Robinet and lost lakes them guy's are cool.. That's how i found you can't wait for your next adventure👍😎👍
@@biged4476 Ha I watch both of them as well! I love John and Erin, they always get into some really great fishing.
Sweet camp site!👍
:I'm watching this now on my TV and I'm mesmerized! The views are breathtaking, the fishing looks so cool, and you guys look so relaxed! I can't wait to make it back to North Country! I found your video because I was thinking of canoeing or kayaking on calm, still waters (I cannot swim) I'm only up to 19:50 of the video, so far, everything looks calm. You have perfect shots with your camera view!
Oh No!!! I’m now up to 45:45 😩😲😮 “You always have to wear your life jacket “ so true so sorry!
Lmfao I felt so bad when I read your first comment, knowing what was coming later in the video. It all worked out well and I had brand new fishing gear within a week. Thanks so much for watching!
Man, I feel for you losing your gear, I flipped one also and lost everything a few years back. I have floaties on all my rods now. Other than that bad luck it was a great trip you had. Keep the vids coming thanks.
I do the exact same thing now with the floats on my rods! I also added one to my net and try to clip my tackle trays onto a line attached to the canoe as well. It was a lesson learned for sure! Thank you so much for watching and following along!
Nice fish at 21:25! Nice video, but you bang on your canoe with almost every single stroke. We love Long Lake, although we haven't been down the Raquette River yet. Sorry about the capsize and the loss of gear.
Thanks David! Yea I used to leverage the gunnels of my canoe when doing a J-Stroke to use a little less energy, these days I can move pretty quietly through the water without the leverage.
Excellent video!! I love that area so much! I was there right ahead of you in August but I stashed my kayak and hiked into the Cold River area to visit Noah Rondeau's Hermitage. That Island House is such a pretty spot in the Pine Grove! Did you happen to stop over to the gorgeous beach on the northwest corner of the Lake? Another awesome spot but no camping unfortunately. I want to do this trip so bad now after watching this! That looked like more awesome lean-tos on the Raquette you stopped at. Good news about the Recreational Barrel Works cooler, I haven't used mine yet, they make some great stuff! So sorry about your capsize, big BUMMER! I know exactly how you feel, I went for a swim shortly after Ice Out on an ADK Lake but fortunately didn't lose anything. I now have a dry suit for such paddling ventures. Good PFD lesson right there. New subscriber right here!!!! Jeff
Thanks for watching Jeff! This trip was pretty great, even with the mishap towards the end. We both love camping out of a lean-to, so this trip was a real treat with how many we found open. I do not think we made out way to the beach you mentioned, I will have to check it out next time. I definitely cannot wait to return with the warmer weather and check on how the fishing is!
Was really hoping to see some walleye come up out of Tupper......
Next time for sure!
Dude, that sucks so bad that you lost all that equipment. Glad it wasn't worse than it was. Always wear the life jacket....wise words This trip is on my list
I never wear a life jacket in summer...and purposely fall into the water
Nice trip. That sucks about your gear man. Get some big trebles with weights and drag them and try to get the poles back.
That is a great idea! I assumed the moving water might have carried my stuff away from where it dumped, but still worth a shot!
Great vid! Could you tell me the brand of rod holder that is? And which was the most productive lure on that trip? And sorry to hear about yer mishap! Happens to the best of us my friend....
Whopper Ploppers are definitely the way to do if you are after Smallmouth on the rivers while canoeing. I use Scotty Rod Holders and Coaming Gunnel Clamps.
You mentioned running your depth finder. I'm curious what setup you use for your sonar while out there?
John from the ADK_Addcits actually pointed me towards my setup, which has worked incredibly well the last year! It is the Garmin STRIKER PLUS 4cv Bundle with GT20-TM transducer and Protective Cover, I grabbed it from Amazon. The transducer clamps to my gunnels the same way the rod holders do, with one of those Scotty coaming gunnel clamps.
Hey dude ! Are there any “ rock gardens” to navigate through on the river section ! I’m just curious if I get up there with my carbon/ Kevlar canoe ! Thanks much appreciated man !
Not exactly rock gardens, but you do need to be vigilant. The high water right now has created a couple hidden hazards under the water here and there.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer Great ! Thanks for the info man ! Hope you’re summer is going well brother !
Anyone want to give me a place to go and find a route for this. My buddy and I are thinking of doing a kayak camping trip and I like this for sure.
Hey man, sorry for the late reply, if you send me a message on Instagram I can totally help you plan out a route like this!
Awesome looking trip. Nice outfit. I'm starting research into canoe tripping in the Adirondacks. What maps do you use? Any good guide books? What time of the season do you recommend? Thanks.👍👍
You definitely want to pick up the Adirondack Paddlers Maps and Guidebook series, invaluable for planning a trip! I am out in the ADK year round, but I really enjoy spring and fall the best.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer Thank you Sir. I'll check them out.👍👍
Any beaver dams on the Raquette? After more than one it gets annoying
No there are no beaver dams.
Do you have to reserve the leantoo prior or just hope it’s open?
It really all depends on where you are going, on this trip they were all first-come-first-serve sites.
Feel for you my buddy lost a brand new rod and reel why fishing in Quebec
It was definitely a lesson learned! My rods now all have floats attached to them, same with my net. I try to tether my tackle to the boat as well now. Just glad we were both wearing our life jackets!
Nice filming but how about more of Stephanie
Lol early on she did not end up on camera so much. In later trips she appears much more.
Great video. Sorry about losing your gear. I know it happened over a year ago, but I still want to help out however your PayPal link says you can’t receive funds. Let me know what I can do.
Hey I really appreciate that man. You are by no means obligated, but if you really do want to make a contribution, I have a Patreon and Channel Membership here on UA-cam that gives you access to some extra content and behind the scenes footage from trips.
@@DaxWoodsWanderer I’m having trouble finding your link to either of those. Please advise.

I tell you what… If you go back and cut out the music and then repost this video, then I will watch it. But I am exiting out I’m not listening to this
I am sorry you do not like the way I edit my videos Jay Winters. I have no plans to change the way I do it in the immediate future, so maybe my videos are not for you.
You need to learn how to row without banging the canoe so much damn
I like to leverage the gunnel when doing a J-stroke, it definitely wears out your arms a lot slower when tying to make some distance!
You row a boat, and you paddle a canoe.
