  • Stephanie and I set out once again with the canoe to a new location! We spent a quiet first night at the 7th Lake island lean-to before setting out on a foggy fall morning to make for Bug Lake/Eagles Nest Lake to fish for some Adirondack Brook Trout. We catch some nice fish, eat some nice meals and soak in the charming mountain air before making our way back down. Once back on 7th Lake we were met with a bit of heavy wind and waves on our way back to the car, but we pushed through and made it home from another unbeatable trip.

    That's crazy how many of those fish had the worms on them! Still an excellent trip. Love that area. Not the most remote place but still so nice.

    We were just up to Seventh and rainbows were biting just out from the boat launch. Also if you use the state campgrounds to launch you are a lot closer to Bug with no rough water if windy to canoe through.

      Crazy that those Rainbows seem to stay active all summer. Glad you had a good time! I really need to get back up to Bug soon.

    Awesome video! Really beautiful ponds, what a bummer about the parasites. I've never seen anything like that, I probably wouldn't have kept them either. Gotta love the brookie bite, like a light switch last year. On one minute, off for a while. Hopefully this year will be better. Soon enough the ponds will be thawed out for paddling. Thanks for sharing!

    Hauling cast iron in the back country, now that's dedication!🤘Nice brookies, I would not have chanced eating them either.
    Take care out there✌

    Nice trip. Great video. You discovered something by accident when the LCW was on the bottom you got a fish. Same thing happened to me several times, although I don’t fish that way intentionally.

    Another great one Jay, glad to know those brookies are ok. Also i've cooked hundreds of pancakes over a wood fire in cast iron and coldhandle and on a griddle.It's all about temp control.

    • @DaxWoodsWanderer
      @DaxWoodsWanderer  2 роки тому

      The cast iron I have pretty much dialed in at this point. I still get that cold handle pan a little too hot sometimes, learning though!

    • @michaelrehberg5198
      @michaelrehberg5198 2 роки тому +1

      I noticed your cold handle in 1 of your recent videos, it looks fairly new. They need to be seasoned just like a cast iron. The blacker it gets the better it will work. You can do it in the oven or on the stove top, just make sure you use a neutral oil like vegetable or olive.

      @@michaelrehberg5198 I definitely also noticed it needed more seasoning on it while I was out on this last trip. I totally butchered the eggs on the last days breakfast! Thanks for the tips!

    I’ve camped on Bug lake before, when I was relaxing out in the middle of the lake on a air mattress I got buzzed by an Air Force A-10 Warthog. Hahaha must’ve thought that I was something that I wasn’t hahaha

      It is always interesting seeing some of the aircraft overhead in the Adirondacks. I had what I believe was a Blackhawk fly right over my head on Eighth Lake.

    Where did you get floats you have on your rods and net? I didn’t see them on Amazon 🤷‍♂️
    That OBD Helin Flatfish lure, in a bigger size, is my go to pike trolling lure. Well, it’s probably tied with a bigger Daredevil lol It depends on the water.

      Eagles Nest and Bug Lake were both amazing, some great campsites and a real remote feel. The parasites were a bummer, but it was nice to catch a few! Apparently those fish would have still been safe to eat after some research, I did not want to take a chance at the time though!
