Ohh look at those honey mushrooms!! Love the addition of drone footage. It adds so much to see the landscape. The wilderness and lack of people makes drone a nice tool. Always love the underwater shits too.
Thanks for sharing another great journey with us . You’re a good example of a Canadian Jon. Picking up trash, clearing old trails, treating wildlife with respect. Always enjoy watching your trips . Thank you .
Thanks CSD! The footage didn't even do it justice...it was really magical. And I'm told at the right times of year, it's a real honey hole. That would've been too good
You appeared so relaxed and un-stressed on this trip. No worries about weather or mileage made or portages. It was cool to see you like this. And then at the finish a beautiful woman arrives to pick you up with chips and another canoe? You're obviously doing something right. Lucky dog!
Hahah thanks Jeff, well observed :) Definitely the beauty of a shorter, easier trip. I love to challenge myself out there, but then other times I remember how fun it is to bite off something smaller
My buddy and I frequently go to state parks around our area in NY...and we pick up trash to keep the parks clean...90% of the cans we pick up are bud lite or coors light, more frequently its been the seltzer cans...its very annoying when we hike back and people have already undone our work. Another great way to say thank you is to keep your parks/crown land clean so THANK YOU MATEY
After bingeing your videos for the past 2 months, im headed up to memesagamesing lake (near north bay) to do my first solo camp. Currently dehydrating pineapple and bringing naan for calzones lol. Keep up the great content, you both really teach me alot!
Thanks guys, appreciate that! It used to really sting, but I've come to accept that YT may recommend a video to thousands of people and there are bound to be some people who just don't like me and/or the video. Plus it's the internet so people generally enjoy acting like arseholes. I watch a lot of YT and I've encountered many videos that weren't my cup of tea. I will pretty much only give a thumbs down to things that are blatantly offensive. Some people use the button more liberally lol
Easily one of my favorites. The views, the rainbows, your happiness, and the cherry on top was footage of Superior (and sweet Erin). Also, thank you for being so educational in your videos.
Awesome trip Jon! I’m not even joking...I find Bud Light cans everywhere I go too, it’s very unfortunate that people leave their garbage everywhere in the woods. As you were going through more and more swifts and rapids I got the feeling you felt like you could conquer them all...then things go a wee bit sideways but a hell of a save there! Thanks for taking us along my friend. 🇨🇦
Hahaha man I gotta stop paddling rivers in low water (two more after this trip). Turns them into a shitshow, but thankfully the volume is forgiving. I got off easy there :) Thanks Doug!
Absolutely fantastical trip! Money can't buy that scenery is right, just awesome! So true about the trails and it is wonderful that you maintain them for others and their historical significance! Oh Erin, she is so nice and the bestest outfitter ever! Thanks for sharing! :)

Great run down the Steele River John...Good to see someone else fill their canoelike a bathtub... Nice fishing too... Thanks for taking us along for the ride... Dennis
wow. Jon, what a journey s btarting with a kiss and ending with an eagle fly by...I love the KD with ketchup and beautiful footage and your enthusiasm for nature and what is right in our world...much appreciated and great thanks to You and Erin...j
Thanks for the video of your trip down the lower Steel. I've been going there for 50 years, but couldn't make it this year because the the border closing. Your video helped with my withdrawal symptoms. I've already watched it four times. I've also enjoyed all of your other videos. Keep up the good work.
I finally got back to and finished this great video. Totally agree the Steel is beautiful. I got get back to the north shore of Superior. You got the best backyard in the world and, then when add in the fresh catch menu seems like heaven to me@
Part of me wonders if the beer can and cigarette pack were the result of somebody tipping their canoe? Or maybe thats just me assuming the best in people... surveillance is definitely the key! Another great video.
Hahah I wish that was the case. But despite the decent portages, I still think this is seldom travelled and probably even less so in low water. There was a hydro line crossing close behind this point so I'm sure someone ATV'd in. Thanks Andrew!
Your campsite was incredible! Thanks for sharing the beauty of it! I love how you care so much about nature and the environment! We need people like you! I too pick up others trash! Thanks again for sharing your life! I’ll keep watching! ❤️❤️

Jon, I don't know how but your videos keep getting better and better! Awesome drone footage up the river. The boxer shorts antics also had me laughing. Cheers sir.
your videos are FANTASTIC! I find them entertaining and also educational after years of backpacking and camping here all up and down the Rockies here in the US. Thanks for providing them!

Jon, nice trip. To bad for the rude litterbugs, no consideration for the beauty in which god gave us. I was looking forward to seeing that nice rainbow in the frying skillet. Thank god for our thoughtful wives. Be safe my friend.
You mentioned Geraldton. I've done tree planting there almost 20 years ago. Watching your videos is really making me want to visit Northern Ontario again.
I felt like in a smash up derby going down the river with you, quite exciting ! I felt a little rush of adrenaline a few times 😲😨 . Great to see you happy , its contagious ☺ . Thank's for making me smile tonight
Eek, I know. It was pretty spooky to approach it, wondering if it was a PFD. Thankfully it was done up which leads me to believe it just flew out. Thanks Jim!
Another great video Jon! Between your talk of staking out fishing spots and busting criminal activity and those shots from inside the canoe as you were portaging. I was reminded of one of my favorite Canadian crime fighters, Mr. Canoehead! Whatever you do Jon, do not buy an aluminum canoe, and do not portage one in Algonquin during an electrical storm!🤣🌩🛶
I feel your pain with those bud light cans. I frequently travel back roads and trails on the tughill plateau and southern adk region and the amount of those cans specifically is absurd. Thankfully I do not often run into trash but I always have a container and trash bag with me for the inevitable. Another great video. Thank you again for sharing your adventures!
Check out the river in June...you will be in awe of the volume of water zipping through at the mouth of the river. Thunderous roar! Great videos and hats off to you...navigating through thick terrain is not an easy task. My family owns a camp at the south end of the lake, nice to see you enjoy the steal...such beauty. Thanks for picking up the trash. Looking forward to following your adventures

Great trip John that river looks really beautiful, White water is pretty intimidating for me Especially in a kevlar canoe. All my trips have been flat water but i like the idea of smaller waterways with new scenery around every corner. Id like to try one day, maybe Lake superior as well, looks so beautiful. Would be nice to head that way some day. Always fun to dream. Love your footage, always a solid watch.
Awesome. One observation. When you paddle into a rapid, you get much better control if you kneel. That way you lower your center of gravity and you a 3-point connection to the canoe. I’d you’re solo for short bony sections you might even temporarily slide more to the center of the canoe. Try it. It’s a nice tip for whitewater sections. Love your sense of conservation and I want the same job in retirement that you do. Busting litter bugs and fish abusers 🤪

Hahah thanks Martin!! So true but my knees just haaate kneeling. I try to when the whitewater is more serious though. 70lbs+ is pretty brutal, but when traded for an old hammock, who could resist? :)
Great drone footage as well as much more. Seeing those rounded boulders and rocks in Superior always make me wonder how long it took to round them so perfectly. And how much pounding of the waves.
