- I may have accepted the wrong challenge. Join me on the journey of building my latest passion project. This was a monster... considering I have never used this technique before.
For those of you that know me... I'm a sucker when it comes to being challenged to build something.... and for this one I chose to roll the dice and use 100+ year old Long Leaf Heartpine knowing that at any moment I could ruin the whole project...

I've worked as a carpenter for over 40 years and have become quite skilled. You sir are simply a wizard. I love the mix of simple builds that anyone can repeat to the insanity builds deserving to be featured in an Alice in Wonderland movie!
Don't know what to say besides Thank You! I'm just trying to show people that anyone can do these things... They just have to believe in themselves. Be it a small project or something that just pops into your head. Fear is the enemy for most aspects of life... and it's ok to be afraid to try something new... but you have to push that aside and do it! As you saw in the video... it kept trying to creep back in as I went... Just have to keep pushing it away and own it!
I agree, Wizard of Woodworking.
FEAR is a liar!
@@yellowhammerwoodcrafts F.E.A.R. False Evidence Appearing Real
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking CHALLENGE YOU to do "Damascus steel" look
“Daymare Dresser” The cross between a Daydream and a Nightmare. Fantastic work bro!
WOW, you never cease to inspire! What a great job.
I would respectfully call it "The Crypt" I can just imagine Dracula with pointed nails sliding the door shut after depositing something from his last victim. But then I'd buy it and I'm not a vampire....... Yet😏
The Demogorgon Dresser
Stranger things anyone? I’ve learned a ton binge watching your videos. Enough so that I’ve decided to start trying my hand at woodworking. I’ve wanted to for a long time. We’ll see. Gonna start tooling up a bit here over the next few weeks.
Love the finished product, you did refer to it as a sanding nightmare. The name should be "The Peechy Nightmare".
I love how you said to find something intimidating and just do it. My woodworking journey has just begun and EVERYTHING is intimidating but I do it! So far I am thrilled with what I am actually capable of! I absolutely think this piece is awesome!
Omg........ it was sooooooo beautiful with the natural wood
Oh my goodness, your work is original, it's art, it's amazing.. I love it.. keep being original.. ❤
Couldn’t decide between two names. “Nightmare dresser” or “Picasso’ Chest of Boards” lol. Good job on your challenge. It’s a one of a kind sir!
Thank you 😁
That turned out better than I thought it would have in the beginning. It looks awesome. You could add some red to the ridges and it would look volcanic. Call it Mordor.
I just found you 6 videos later I'm commenting. I AM OBSESSED! I think this would look amazing for so many things...like at around 1/2 through video I immediately pictured this doubled, protected from elements & being fixed with lighting on top & set up at the entrance to a driveway on both sides. Looks amazing.
If it was my project I would call it the “Black Sahara “ reminds me of the sand in a desert. It looks Great!
I love how this turned out and appreciate the advice to not let fear stop you from doing something. It reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe so I like either the name “Poe’s Labyrinth” or “The Raven’s Keep”.
Both names would be great!
Awesome work!! Only name I can think of is "Black Ice", because it kinda looks like it's melting. Thanks for the awesome videos and the encouraging words!!!
I like it... Hmmmmm.
It turned out awesome!!! It's a Sith Wardrobe!!! Perfect for Star Wars fans!!!
Call it the Nightmare, cause that’s what it would be to build it as you know. That’s a crazy cool project, turned out really nice.
Thanks! The sanding was def a nightmare... But overall a really fun project. I never knew from minute to minute if it was going to turn out.
I am exhausted after watching that video! Congrats for the willpower to finish it, it really came out nice. I have to tell you, I was really afraid you would hurt yourself with that first carving blade.
I'm still exhausted! I had a death grip on the grinder with the first blade. The Kutzall dish was so easy to control without the kicks.
I love this dresser, not because it would look good anywhere in my home, but because of the heart and soul that you put into it. To me, it looks like it is melting, and you did say it was your nightmare, and that it was melting through sandpaper, so I think My Melting Nightmare.
Hot take, but the natural wood looked amazing for this.
I think the stain really brought the look down this time, those waves and grooves accented the wood grain beautifully imo.
I actually agree. I think that I liked it better just with the pre-stain on it. Made the natural colors pop.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking get some 0000 steel wool in some warm water, you can gently rub that on your black stain to lighten it without sanding it all completely. Or thin out your warm water with a little mineral spirits. May lighten it up to see the grain with the dark stain too. Best of both worlds.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking I would love to see you do this with high-end wood like English Walnut, Brazilian Rosewood, and Cocobolo Wood. Beautiful work man.
Name it the world's biggest "dybbuk box" it def has a evil feel about it! Great work!
"Midnight Glacier" by the way, you are the best craftsman I've ever seen. JUST AMAZING !
My husband is a cabinet maker and kitchen designer. When we first met, I told him about an idea I had for an award winning kitchen cabinet design. This is kind of the idea I had in my head except my idea was to make the wood look like sandstone; you know, with the layers of different colours etc. The cabinet doors and drawers would be contoured. Can you imagine an entire kitchen designed to look like sandstone?
He just looked at me and said, " you have any idea how much work that would be"?
I said, " you have any idea how much money you could sell it for"? Ha ha!
Awesome work! Call it "Obsidian," because it has the very natural, flowing look of volcanic glass with the black color to match
Now you should paint it dark blue, do the ridges white, heavily distress it down to that revealing a lot of that black again so it looks like deep water. And that is the name then: Deep Water.
I dig it! Hmmmmm
Another Beautiful piece Mr Peech. For the name I recommend simply Matthew. A lot of great sons are named after their fathers
Looks awesome brother and I love watching someone who isn't afraid to record themselves doing something for the first time and learning as they go. How about Darth Dresser ?? Lol
Thanks Joey! That would be fitting... hmmm
I got nothing. This piece is EPIC!!! I'm just sitting here with a big 'ol grin plastered on my face! In fact I didn't realize I was grinning the entire time, fully appreciating the creativity and perseverance. Unfortunately my face is stuck like this and my friends and family are wondering what on earth is wrong with me. Carry on good man!
Dude, Awesome!! I think I would call it the "Wizard Nightmare Chest"
The mistress. Love your Channel... Rock on man...
Reminded me of the Evil Dead from the beginning, you could call it the “Necronomicon Chest”.
Good work, that makes me want to do the same. Probably a good project for all the pallet wood.
Nice! I was thinking Evil Dead as well. However, the drawers are too small to store "Boomsticks"
The Obelisk ... see Agents of Shield. I love it!
You sir...JUST WOW! Truly impressive! I've gotten into this hobby because of your videos, and these projects just blow me away. Thank you for all your help and inspiration.
For a name. I like: Vecna's Dresser.
or The Serpentine Offering.
Thanks Joe! It's a great hobby where your creativity is the limits!
Been watching work work channels for years. Yours just popped up with this beast. SUBSCRIBED! UA-cam works in really weird ways, but every once in a while, a new channel pops up.This evening, it was yours. What an incredible, insane piece of work. Absolute beauty! Cant wait to get through the rest of your series.
Thanks for the sub! Hope I don't let ya down1
Alfred E. Newman... My friend, you have just dated yourself. but hey, "What, me worry"?
@@gungagalunga7761 Ahhh - you caught me! Yep - I'm an ol' fart who just took up wood work about 8 years ago. Learn something new with every project. Woodwork tools slowly replacing (or augmenting) lots of mechanic tools.
@@danhartman9087 LOL I'm staring retirement down and if I only had the free time to do the things I'd prefer to do. Appreciate your situation and your MAD magazine sense of humor.
God bless, be safe and stay healthy!
@@danhartman9087 Rock on brother. My kid brother (8 years my junior) retired and is having troubles not knowing what to do with his free time. I gave him 2 cords of Amish barn siding reclaimed from a barn that was nearly 200 years old. I think I saved his retired mind with woodcrafting and material that is truly one of a kind.
Stay safe and mentally sound, from one old fart to another.
What?, Me worry?.... NEVER worry!
Awesome build! This definitely deserves the name “Nightmare on Peech Street”
I would call it the "Gotham Horrors" Chest of Drawers. You could do a whole "Gotham Horrors" collection of furniture... 👌...
Also I would just suggest maybe the use of a light grade flapper wheel for sanding contours.. they're available at harbor freight in several different sanding grades.
You should definitely call this The Black Knight Sattelite Dresser
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your channel! Thank you so much for your time and effort AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!🙏💜💯
Thanks!!! No worries!!
Looks like Batman’s cape! Call it the Dark Night
A lot of great names below, so my attempt is "Peechy Keen" A great build and thanks for taking us along for the adventure!
Seems to me that creation could be worth thousands of dollars to the right person. Your channel is my new obsession my friend
Thanks! I’ve actually been offered thousands for some of my crazy builds. But they weren’t made to sell… if I decide to part with any they will most likely be given away or go to a charity.
Your a good man @@MatthewPeechWoodworking
This my man was a big step up.... amazing results! I have become an avid follower of you because you share so openly all of y our skills. I don't have evidence, but I would bet that many have become woodworkers due to your amazing samples, lessons and encouragement to turn a hobby into a moneymaking opportunity. Thank you!
Name it “Wood Waves of Wonder”
Something that skillfully built should be one of the Wonders of the world! Nice work!
Looks amazing. I remember the first time I tried power carving inside, I’m still finding saw dust from two years ago! The black stain actually really helps with depth persecution of the curves. I would call it “The Devil’s Dresser.”
I was so surprised that I won a prize that directs me to a platform that isn’t listed in your channels (just kidding). I think it is amazing how many scammers will lift the creator’s logo or picture and pretend to be the creator to scam folks. Well, because of you I am now on instagram, still not sure how to use it but I there now! thanks for sharing.
Sorry man. Why can't people just put in a lil work instead of ripping people off. I hate a scammer.
Nightmare or Darth Vader looks good for the first one. As always you never let us down.
Thanks!
That needs a series of flames and reds to make it look like it is burning. And it needs to shine, oil finish maybe? Name it? Rock of fire.
Hmmm... I could make it to where flames shoot out of the top... now you have me thinking. lol
I ❤️ it! I use Kutzall burs in my Dremel , now I want the Kutzall shaping disc! I hope your eye surgery was successful and your surgeon doesn’t watch this video.🤭. It’s a beautiful piece.❤️❤️
Wish I had something brilliant to say, all I can think of is: Yes! This is cool!
By any chance, did you weight it before and after power carving?
Well done. Your gamble paid off in a big way if you ask me. Good to see the family participate in the whole process. I guess it is too small to call it "Mount Peech-more". But you did climb your mountain. Again, well done. She loos great. Have a great week.
Most excellent! Highly imaginative! Idea for a name, Ridge Wood.
That is amazing!! Thank you for sharing
I'm working on a power carving project myself...1st project...but inspired by your work to do some wood working. thanks for all you do for us woodworkers out here.
Lots of good name suggestion so far. Looks like melting chocolate or lava to me. So: chocolate river. Obsidian lava. Melted choc-o-cone. Scooby doo chocolate monster. Mauna loa sock box. Ganache box. S’more chest or S’more drawers. Hot fudge bureau. fun stuff.
I think that would have looked really cool in a cherry color too! I’ve enjoyed this video as much as your others!
This dresser is amazing! I’d call it “dragon scale”. The texture is what I imagine dragon scales would look like up close.
"Never let fear hold you back".
I love it! Rock and roll!
Peace and love.
Ok so durring the build I was thinking Sponge Bob Square Drawers but after seeing the frustration, all of the sanding, and black stain, I landed on Satan's Brick. Lol. I mean it in the best of ways. Being the king of the underworld he would probably only have the best of dressers. I love, I it think it's beautiful and, beautfuly made. It reminds me of a Geiger creation or a Hellbound type inspired thing like Pinheads pantry of playthings or something. I really enjoy your channel and I come up with with some high value low cost smalls ideas sometimes especially because you inspire me too but I don't have access to a shop and I hate commenting on social media. So sorry for not saying hi sooner but I really do appreciate your channel. I learn a lot and you challenged us to comment and like you It's hard to resist a challenge.
Quite impressive! Thanks for sharing that experience. You are truly an artist.
I don't know where I'd put it, let alone name it! You definitely rose to the challenge! You are very talented and fearless...good qualities in a maker.
I really liked how you planned the drawer pulls. Looking forward to your next vision!
Hey! Thanks... but I'm not fearless... I just choose to not let it control me or what I do. That's how we should all be. Never be afraid of failure because it doesn't exist.... only lessons. And I already have another one in the works... lol.
It's a Monsterous Beauty!!! I can see it sitting in an old castle as a prized piece handed down through the generations😍😍😍😍
Incredible piece of artistry Matt. Thanks for sharing all the creations you do. You’re straight forward commentary has made me a better woodworker. As for a name I was stuck between two. The Conglobe Wardrobe and Pleuro Bureau
A name for this mesmerizing monstrosity????
The Eldritch Drawer.
Good work as always! “Deep roots”
Looks like the wicked witch dresser. Very well done sir.
Looks good, I'd call it the Black Peach
great build. love all your stuff. i made the concealment coat rack and now getting ready to start the concealment coffee table. i would call it "Storm Front".
Another amazing piece! Because of the amount of sanding you had to go through couple with the dark look, I submit the name: Tormented Requiem.
Very glad you make these videos!
Wow! That's an awesome piece! I would call it "Midnight Dunes" or "Moonlit Dunes". With that stain it reminds me of desert sand dunes.
Truly Amazing !
Thank you so much for sharing this !
Yur almost the 'Bob Ross' of wood art! Just 2 words... BADD ASS! You never know what shape hides behind an unfinished block of wood until you reveal it. Awesome work! And inspiring too. I miss my uncles cabinet shop from my teen years. I guess its time to saddle up! Name? Square Crow!
Thanks Karl! Love me some Bob Ross! Thats the beauty of it. Taking nothing and turning it into something unique. Saddle up Karl!
This is my first time seeing power carving of any sort and im in love with this! Thank you for inspiring me to do something new with wood working! My first power carving project I will be posting for you!
I can’t wait to see! You’ve got this!
It's incredibly cool!!! It's like a storm cloud and functional as well. Very creative!
This build is beautiful. I preferred the color before the stain, but it's still a masterpiece. Very impressive.
FULLY AGREE! What a poor choice of color paint… Just ruined the project!
Excellent work.
When you started it I could see where it was going and I would call it a “medieval tower of drawers” it really turned out great love it
"Tempestral Stump" seems like a good name!
The Frankenpine Cabinet is quite the Creation from a Brilliant Mind!
Congratulations Doctor Peech!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great job!!!!
I would call it a hurricane dresser because of all the waves and work you put in it. I do lots of carving moving all that wood is a chore..But in the end it is so satisfying. That cutzall is the ticket .I have to get one of those for sure.
Cheers.
Awesome build. Thanks
Matthew, you had me on the edge of my seat…but you pulled it off beautifully!🎉 Congratulations great job. It has depth and movement !
"King Kong" ? Nice job!
Thanks Matt. A+ effort. First time level , perfect. Nice job. Way to learn your way through it. Thanks again
Challenge accepted; and completed
You are my idol! I’ve been “blessed” by parents who believed in “free” labor also so I’ve been involved in carpentry for 40+ years. But there is an art form to woodworking. So after years of being told I was to “particular “ with jobs (I’m too much of a perfectionist and thorough) and knowing my body is not going to take “keeping up with the boys” too much longer and since the big C pandemic gave me the time to recalculate what I really want to do and still be able to keep my 4 legged kids in the lifestyle they desire I took the leap and am going to make this work. I have learned so much from you and I just want to say thank you. Ive always thought outside of “their” box , colored outside of the lines, pushed all the limits and always questioned the what/why/how’s and I wonders. This piece is absolutely stunning! (Im also in love with the mad hatter) While watching this build “Enter Sandman” by Metallic kept running through my head. They just seem to go together perfectly. Especially since it’s off their “Black” album. So I would say Sandman would be a perfect name for it.
Hey Josie! That's so awesome and no need for thanks... this is why I do it. I too have always questioned everything and love the aspect taking a pile of "nothing" and making "something". Inside the box is boring.... so In this piece I literally took the box and made it how I see "the box"... in an abstract way. And you said metallica... guess what was playing in my headphones... Metallica. And usually what I jam to while in the shop.... so Sandman is in my top 5 picks so far. I dig it. Keep doing you and thanks so much for your kind words.
I would call it the Coco Loco Chest. I love the Kutzall wheels. They can cause some damage but not nearly as dangerous as the other options. That chest looks cool bro!
Wow! You can really see the difference in the shaping dishes. Looks like it made things sooo much easier.
Obsidian........looks amazing.
This is so cool*****love the off the wall stuff*****thank you
Great videos. Great narration. Great information.
Wow. Just wow!!
Thanks Greg!
Great project result. It is very idea inspiring (to me) aswell. Well Done and Thankyou Matthew.
My son got me an angle grinder for Christmas last year with one of those shaping discs. I've never used an angle grinder before so this is a new experience for me but I'm loving the shaping disc. The only thing I don't like is clamping down the wood and having to move around so much. But also all of the dust it is crazy. But it is a lot of fun
Thanks for the challenge!
I would either call it #1 "THE LEVIATHAN" or #2 "KING LEONITOS" I just love both those names...also I genuinely love the build. Great job! I am totally inspired!
Really cool. It kind of looks like tree roots from a Fir tree in the dark on an exposed waterway bank
This project was awesome and very creative . luv all your ideas there very unique . I would call it " The Wicked Wood "dresser because of all those crazy designs in the wood . Thanks for sharing all your awesome ideas .
Matteriorite Peech Comet.
Looks like a meteor.
Really cool
Awesome to watch this because I just bought a Kutzall shaping dish myself and haven't got to use it yet but fun to see someone else try it out. After the black stain I'm coming up with The Tendrill Chest.
Awesome build! I'd call it "Captain Blackdrawers" 🤣
