Pedestal Table Legs - Low Cost High Profit - Make Money Woodworking

  • Yes 2x10s! This massive pedestal base has huge profit potential and can be made using 3 standard 2 x 10 x 10'! I actually misspoke in the video and said it would take 7. But that would be at 8' and you would have around 6' of waste. With 3 - 10' boards, it would come out about perfect with no little waste! This video goes along with our low-cost high-profit series for building your woodworking business but it's kicking it up a notch.
This is the perfect example of a crazy high-profit build if you're to the next level in growing your tool inventory... You've saved your money and upgraded to a bandsaw and planer... or you may already have one and are just not utilizing its full money-making potential. And if you are not to that point yet this will provide motivation to keep trucking forward!!!

My wife has finally decided that this is the base I'm to build for our dining table. We've had the same terrible, cheap table in our dining room for 13 years. I've been building and selling tables for two years. It's about time!
Bought your plans to help support you!

I don't know why this channel isn't at 1m subs yet. I follow a lot of great woodworkers on UA-cam and you are right there with the best. Best of all, you explain how money is made in addition to how to build. Keep up the great work.

Could agree more he's amazing his work and teaching is fantastic and we cannot beat that. The subs shoud be way way way more I would say he's on par with cam at blacktail studio and he's at 1.6m a think. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍

Learning Content Creation is a challenge for people who are bringing their skill to UA-cam. I love this channel, but I also know why at one point I almost walked away. Every video, easily 4 to 8 minutes is spent talking about the channel and the content that will be soon to happen. I have to tell you... people are both attention deficit and paranoid of click-bait. Every single new YT maker suffers from this problem of how to cram 'new to channel viewer info', 'channel updates', 'build and materials info' and - the build - into one video. Content Creation is a skill and an art. As soon as Matt starts to find that balance, and perfect that skill, the numbers will start tearing through the roof. My advice would be to immediately start shifting some stuff to the end of the video - and that's really hard for a new creator to embrace. But if you can get to the build in under 2 mins, subs will start increasing without doing anything else. At the END of the build is where he should say, "Hey, have you heard about our 'Brag Board'? Let me tell you about it!" and such. Or to up that game a notch, he should have separate 'info' videos where he can put up quick little thumbnails for. Content Creation requires you to understand human attention span and pander to it.

I wish I had been born with the patience to make something like this. The planters were one thing, but I can easily see myself getting aggravated with the cutting on this one.

Don't let the small saw stop you, you could also do this in quarters and then glue them up, would be twice the band saw cuts and a bit more sanding to true things up. Maybe not as profitable but plenty worth doing for yourself.

Man, I really need to get a band saw. Of course when I get one I doubt very seriously that it will be as big or as nice as that Harvey, but the same technique could be applied to 6X lumber, it would just take two legs on each end instead of a single pedestal. I just started making payments on a 30X40 metal building close to my house,.. so now I have room for all the tools I could ever want, but now my tool budget is also shot to hell. Hahaha!

A million subs would be a dream.... not for the recognition but to have that many folks that I could teach! And the dresser... plans dont exist for it. It's all in my crazy head. There's over 280 angles in that build. The plans would be a book lol.

Observation: when you have a square block and you want to make your shape a simpler way is to mark a centre line cut it re-glue rotate 90 degrees and re cut again you now have 4 pieces which you glue together on the 90 degree angles. try it out. you can make any cut, any shape and the results are amazing. Love your work.

WOW! Your videos have really come along, way to go. Do you have a video on how to properly use the DeWalt thickness planer? Reason I ask is because I went and got the lesser version and for the life of me I don't know what I'm doing with it lol..HAD TO HAVE IT! Also have you shipped these legs and if so any tips on shipping something like that?

A thought. On the off chance that the mounting holes for the lag screws are not perfectly symmetrical, I’d add a witness mark (chiseled mark) on the mating faces so I could be sure of putting them back in the same orientation.

Looks good brother! I’m interested to hear you talk about the Harvey tools. As a former tool repair tech I’ve put together a lot of different ones for the store I worked at.

I honestly have been nothing but impressed with their tools. I've ran every type of woodworking tool that I can think of on the industrial side from my time in a flooring mill. Their tools are build like the ones in huge mass production plants.

Hey Matthew, this build is impressive. Now I’m ticked, I had to sell my bandsaw when I relocated last year due to space restraints. Awesome video!!!

No worries! Depends on what type. I built some farmhouse shutters out of furring strips for my house.

Some brilliant ideas on this channel my friend. Very well explained and shown. I try never missing an episode.
One question or consideration on this one though. Is there any concern of splitting, cracking or wood movement on this piece? Being construction grade lumber and all.
Maybe an idea for a future video? Explaining wood movement?
    Keep up the great work.

Great idea and question! All construction grade material is kiln dried... but all wood can pick up moisture along the way. A moisture meter is a must for building furniture. Let it air dry in in your shop until the moisture content is down around 8-10% and you won't have any issues.

I just want to say that your videos are great. My dad and I have been working together to build the planter boxes that you did. It's been great bonding after a couple of years of not really getting to see each other. We're going to start hitting up the local greenhouses about selling some boxes, and I want to thank you for giving the inspiration to get us both into doing something we enjoy doing together as a family.

I was wondering if you could do a pedestal base like this with a joined 4 leg base and column for a round table . Would love to see you do this out of something other than pine.
