How to fix a dim lit led third brake light

  • I installed a aftermarket LED third brake light onto my truck a while ago and it looks great but the LED cargo lights are always lit up when the truck is on and that's just not a good look so I decided it was finally time to fix it and show you guys how its done. I hope the video helps especially if you are running into this issue on your truck, also these resistors can be installed like this in turn signal circuits also to correct for a rapid flash when you install LED lights.

    I don't get why most LED light conversion kits don't come with resistors already.

      If I remember right those are led, you might have to start by replacing the light in the spoiler and go from there.

    Thanks for making the video. I need to do this too. Can you provide the specs on the resistor? Ive seen people posting that they’ve used 6 ohm resistors but some say 100 watt and others say 50 watt. Do you know which would be better or if one is safer etc?

    • @comicop1482
      @comicop1482 3 роки тому

      Actually I just saw the other comment where you posted the link to Napa. It says these are 25 watt. And if that’s all it took to work well I’ll stick with the lowest wattage instead of the others. Thanks again for the video!

      On the back of the light, the resistor did get hot but didn't do much damage to the light. It has a little distortion.

    my problem is my aftermarket led brake light is so dim its worse than factory. Im gona polish my old assembly or buy another OEM and stick in super bright SMD leds into the light bulb slots. It will be 5x brighter than these led garbage products they seem to be making now.

      This does fix that issue as well, you just have to keep in mind you will have a marker circuit and a brake light circuit so you might need to do both circuits on both sides but long story short yes it will fix it.

    He keeps saying "in-line resistor" but then saying it's parallel. "In-line" is series, not parallel. Also, the title says "Dim 3rd brake light" when it's actually the cargo area lights that are dim.
