- Eco Diesel Jeep Rubicon with 40 Inch Tires on Dana44 axles. We do a quick trail run after the lift and tire install, and I share some initial thoughts. Pros/cons of the build in the trail, and what I would need to do to remedy some of the issues (which I anticipated).

Having Dirt Lifestyle as a trail buddy is a blessing
Absolutely. There are very few like him 👍👊
👍
usually the only thing i get in 40s is malt liquor but those are fire
😂😂😂
Having a built rig opens up so much more over landing places that you never consider before. Nice build.
Facts!
Great video!
Oh man, this is going to be such a nice build! I see hydro steering in your future. Those 40s look BIG! Yet another great video Ed. Always look forward to your videos!!!
Thanks Art! I see hydro steering in my future as well 😆
Looking forward to more videos on this build
They’re coming! 😉
Sweet Jeep!
WoW !! Edward Dusty is looking great and enjoying the outdoors just like you. Looking forward to more off road adventures with family and friends. Dusty is a Beast !! 😃👊
Thank you Betzaida! I always appreciate your kind comments 🙏👊
Make sure to include a running dollar total. Vehicle cost plus full retail for parts and labor for your build and as you add things.
Snow ready for sure!
Did well in the Canadian snow this weekend 👍
Rig looking great, keep the adventure rolling 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks! 👊
Northridge 4x4 is a great spot to get parts. Pretty staple for the PNW.
As usual a great video, looking forward to more camping adventures. I can't imagine trying to get my Tacoma on 40,s
Think 4.88 gear rubicon JL, 2 door, can handle 40’s? Manual trans or automatic.
Such a great looking and capable rig. I'll be interested in what direction you go with the hydraulic assist.
I have a few in mind. Will end up choosing the one with the best balance of quality and price 👍
did you make that spare tire backpack thing or is that something thats an option?
Dusty looking good Ed! Glad you are enjoying the Jeep platform! 👍
Thanks Michael! Loved it since the first day, and not looking back 🤝
40inch tires ? They do not come with those for a reason. They are not built to handle pushing them around. Maybe in 4 low all the time but keep it slow suspension brakes & drivetrain might break. Off road aint cheap & the weak things break & there are always surprises so stay in line & spot each other off the curb!
Edward, good looking meat on those wheels! I prefer it like that, more tire, less wheel for off-roading/overlanding.
Thanks! And I agree, more sidewall is great for the way we use our vehicles
Nice, very nice. I fully support the strength and realiability of the new advantek axels. My JLU (as seen on jeepNdirt) is on 38's and I think that's the perfect size for our jeeps and these axles (including Chromo axle shafts.) for all around wheeling including crawling. I also agree with Nate (and you) that 40's are manageable on these axles for how you intend on using your jeep and have confidence that you'll see plenty of miles of reliability. We each have our own needs and as long as you're able to manage what you have and most importantly know your limits then it's all good. On a related note for those who will likely question your continued use of the FAD axle, I'll simply say this: I'm now running the Spicer Ultimate 44 on the front of my jeep (seen on the second video "no camping overlanding") only because it was a fee upgrade after an inattentive driver took out my FAD axle. His car hit my axle laterally across the passenger tire and essentially pushed my steering (passenger tire) past max limit. The Aluminum knuckle was broken but the interesting thing is that it also bent my axle at the FAD about an 1/8th of an inch meaning the knuckle held up enough until the axle bent before breaking. To put this into perspective, this was a 4700 lb car traveling at 46 mph that directly hit my tire pushing the tire back causing all this damage. I'm confident the FAD axle is plenty strong enough as long as you know your limits.
Nice job, and I second the comment below that it's nice having Nate as a wheeling buddy. He's awesome!
Thank you for sharing your experience, Knowledge, and feedback! I don’t doubt the FAD will be reliable and strong. Also, knowing that I don’t plan to do extreme rock crawling or jumping, and mainly for overlanding journeys , I feel the 40” tire/Dana44’s are a good combo for the budget
Very cool looking the way the jeep turned out. And it looks like it was eating up Da trails..Aloha 🤙🏾
Thanks Daniel 👊🤝
Absolutely love Mt cooper STT PROs. I am on 35x13.5s and air down to 8 psi for snow runs. They perform very well, I will say though excessive wheel spin and the STTs will dig a hole quickly. Love the build
Careful with the skinny pedal!!! Thanks for the videos 🤙
100%!
Damn, your Jeep is looking beefy, Ed! I'm curious, out of your three main platforms so far (Tundra, Ram, Wrangler), do you prefer one over the other. I know they probably have different strengths and weaknesses, but if you could choose one to rule them all, could you?
Thanks Adam!
And that is a great question, each vehicle definitely has its strengths and weaknesses over the other, but if I had to start from scratch, and have only one vehicle to keep and modify, I’d probably get a hybrid of both the truck and the jeep: the Gladiator.
Fun to see how nice she's beginning to travel and "rise above the occasion ". Good on you Edward
Best David
Thanks David 🙏👊
What is the gear ratio on 40s? Did you regear?
Looks soooooo good on those 40s!
Question for you, how much space do you have in between your front bump stops?
Haven’t measured, but I’m going to guess at least 8 inches
Nice rig! Drone footage looks like Larch Mt
Maybe it's too early, but what is the tire change process like? They must weigh a ton!
A little over 100lbs. I’d say it will require a very strong person or two people. Or some sort of tire lifting apparatus
Really well done (and great looking) Jeep!
Fron BRAZIL...
Whoo, first!
🙌👊
Looks great
Balancing beads (16 oz) stopped all vibration that I had left over in my 40's.
WOW 18.5 MPG on 40s! Wishing I had the Diesel in my rig just for that figure alone lol !
Great looking Jeep! I was wondering how the brakes are after putting the tires on? I have a jk with 37's and it killed my braking.
With just a lift and wheels the JL body styling makes it effortless to look good. I wish I would have known the differences between the JK and the JL before we bought the JK.
Hey ed beautiful rig. Do you by any chance experience that ping or rattle too when you accelerate especially going up the hill?
Dang bro I was following your channel because you were one of the few trucks on here .. there are soooo many running jeeps now days.
40's are ridiculous, but the cons are so low I guess why not do 40's
Did you retain the fad with the rcv? I read about a vibration issue in the axle so I went with the fad version. Will you truss the axle? Curious how will it performs. Your videos showed up in my feed as I am looking to eventually go this route after I wear out the 37s. Thanks for the series!
Prob hands down the best looking jeep out of the crew.
I appreciate that! 👊
@@KrokemOutdoors yes sir
Dusty is turning out great!
Thanks Brian! 👊
37's Max to be usefull otherwise there is no real up take
Nice looking good 👍
Thanks Jimmy!
Beast Mode, looks great!
Thanks buddy 🙌👍
What lift did you go with the 40s?
What size gears did you go with?
I like how my Coopers grip in the wet street and off-road. My BFG's were always skating around.
Nate's got a light out.
The coopers are surprisingly grippy 👍
Edward, do you plan to provide a price breakdown of the upgrades? I am sure many Jeep owners would like to know what kind of coin is necessary to outfit similar to your build.
It's a beast!
No plans to provide a price breakdown, due to potential fluctuations in price over time, but I will include links to products where people can check out the parts and their listed retail price and add up accordingly 👍
Diggin it … Diggin it … DIGGEN IT !!!! She’s a beauty
🙌👊
Really nice set up. 👍
You deserve more followers
What gears did you do?
40s are a game changer
Nice composition on the video. Great looking jeep.
Thanks Jason 🤙
💕💕
🤓
What did you use to reprogram the ecu for the gear change and tire size?
Taser
Why 40’s for an over landing rig?
Why not?
Ed, did you get load bars with mount slots for your expedition one roof rack? I have the same one on my JL and wish they came with load bars with mount slots. Would love to see a full review on that and what your plans are with the rack.
The rack came without any slots, but I do plan on drilling through some of them to mount some storage boxes
@KrokemOutdoors definitely looking forward to your plans with that. I'm not a fan of drilling but I do want to mount 2 Rugged cases up top.
@@_OTTTO_ same, drilling is always nerve-wracking . But when I do it, I’ll be sure to share in a video
Haha Nate, said what I thought. You could have done it stock. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures !!!
I think so too. This was to get Dusty warmed up!
@Edward Shin ooohweee !!! Hope to see you up North ! Collab with Shawn and the Story Till Now !!!
@@freddietugade162 we just camped this weekend 😉🤙
@Edward Shin sweeeet !!!! Glad you made it up ! I'm sure Dusty was perrrfect up here !!!
Gears?

👍👍
👊👊
👍
👊
I knew you’d dig them Coopers their sweet shoes!
*They’re
I like them a lot. Very grippy on trails and did outstanding in the snow this weekend!
@@KrokemOutdoors yeah and you got them bead locks your going to be unstoppable!
Are you running the stock 4.10’s? With those 40’s ?
5.13
@@KrokemOutdoors damn lol. Ok thanks
Beautiful rig bro but if your goin 40s you gotta go Dana 60s at least.
We’ll find out over time 👍
I still don’t understand how you would purchase such a beautiful expensive vehicle, like the Jeep eco diesel and abused it. I’ll never do that to an 80 thousand dollar rig. Mine will be bone stock. I love the outdoor recreation but not to that extreme
