I can barely hear the commentary of the differences between 37/40" tires due to the voices in the video footage. Heads up for future videos, sometimes you have to reduce actual footage volume so the commentary isn't competing.

12 years ago I put Pro Rock 60s under my 93 YJ. I've always run 37s under it because there is a measure of reliability and strength I put into them so as not to worry about breaking things.
I've run the Dusy Ershim in California 3 times, as well as other rock trails in that area and never broken anything in my axles. Even managed a portion of The Rubicon until I broke a leaf spring. Trail fixed it and drove it home (over 200 miles) without any axle damage.
It's my only means of transportation and that means Daily Driver. The added strength in one tons have never let me down.
Don't think I would be afraid to go to 40s, but just haven't seen a reason to. I get in and out just fine on 37s.
Of course the 40s help with getting longer wheelbase past high center spots better, but paying all the extra money can be difficult to justify.
As long as you aren't breaking equipment or getting stuck a lot, 37s are fine. Be safe and have fun.

40s certainly look cooler, but 37s is a much cheaper and much more practical option overall, while still being very capable offroad. If you're doing like 80% onroad or more then perhaps even 35s would be better. It's quite capable even with 35s, especially the Rubicon Unlimited, and you can fit 35s on the stock car without expensive upgrades.

I have a 2008 JKU sport on 35s but because of where I live wheeling is little to none and when I do take long trips my 35s kick butt for me, but I still wanna do shaft upgrades

Absolutely 🙌🏻 35s are still a great size I’m putting them on a WJ build.

I ran 37s on my D30 before swapping to pro rock 44s front and rear. I’d suggest not to run chromoly shafts. You want that as your weak pont! Sleeve and truss the D30 and ring gear swap. Invest in a chromoly gear set! Also keep it easy on the pedal just keeps crawl and good drive lines. Also if you have a d30 you’ve trussed and sleeved and gear set buy rcv shafts that 50-100$ more is better. I put 120k before bending my 30s on 37s I also beat the shit out of like wheel hopping….

It really seems that in order to run 40's on D44, you have to treat it as you would running 37' with the D30. Which isn't all that bad, just have to be smart and know when to call it.

So I’ve been actually testing that and wheeling this set up with no holding back the past few trips and I haven’t had any issues. However that said every component in this axle is the strongest variant you can buy. A rubicon 44 stock I agree with that 100%.

    I have an xj. I run 33's. If I go to a 6" lift I'll run 35's. Doubt I'll do tons.
You should lock that front end. Air locker.

@@ROCKY_TV It didn't look like it was employed during the video. Looked more like the jeep version of lockers; quadra-trac.

The videos with 37s were stock axles the video with 40s is Currie axles with arb lockers

@@ROCKY_TV makes sense. Lockers are great. I put a set on the front of my son's WJ. Bought a used carrier & a 231 to swap in. Had it done in a weekend.

That is why I did 35's way less likely to brake stuff being built for 37's.
little less weight . fun dd I can abuse .
